...In the years leading up to the Boar war in the late 18 hundreds, women’s role in society was clearly defined. The ideology of the time was that a woman’s place was in the home, there was no better or more fulfilling way for a woman to spend her time than staying in the home to cook clean and raise children. Women were only educated as a means of enabling them to acquire skills that could use in the home and with there family, as this would higher there standard of living, Darwin, Sharpe (1976). Moreover, attitudes towards women’s position within the labour market were defined by such beliefs. Putting the beliefs of the time into context shows that they were interlined with class and the idea of the British race. The “ideology of domesticity” prominent in the 18hundres was as relevant to the middle class women as it was to working class women, Purvis (1987). However as June purvis has said “what was considered appropriate, relevant and unattainable for the middle classes was inappropriate, irrelevant and unobtainable for working class women, Purvis (1987). As it was, not working was economically obtainable for women in the middle classes and seen as appropriate and relevant to a woman’s social standing. However, physically exhausting jobs in poor working conditions for low pay returning to over crowded houses with little heat and no sanitation was the bleak prospect for the majority of the population. Awareness and concern grew about health among the middle classes and government...

...Women As News Anchors Women in all careers are striving to gain equality in the work force today, and female television news anchors are definitely part of the fight. The road to television news anchoring is a rocky one, where only a few women survive and many fail. Where progress was once thought to have been made, there aren't many females getting ahead in the world of television news. Today, there is a very slow, if any, gain in the numbers of women who succeed. There are many questions surrounding the subject of women in television news, and I will attempt to answer relevant ones in this paper. How have the women that actually make it to the top and succeed as anchorwomen, done it? What does it take to make it? Why do those few endure it/enjoy it? Why has it been and still is difficult for women? What are the expectations of women in the field, as opposed to the expectations of men? I am interested in this topic because I once aspired to become a television broadcaster. I still have inspiration in me, but not quite as much due to the negative and discouraging aspects I have heard about in classes and in the media. I am not sure that I could be happy in a career such as this, and I know there are great difficulties in "making it" in this profession. I have read about the incredible ambition of successful females in television news, and it seems like it takes a special kind of passion to want to keep up in the business. I kept my questions in mind when...

...Zachary Miksitz Period 7/8 March 8, 2012 Capulet William Shakespeare was one of the greatest play writers of the seventeenth century. He wrote many great plays that are still popular to this day. One of Shakespeare’s most famous plays is the love story of Romeo and Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet, there are two families that are fighting, the Capulets and the Montagues. Mr. Capulet, the head of the Capulet family, has many different traits like being a loving father, a good host, and being very hot-tempered. ` In the second scene of the first act, Capulet demonstrates his love for his daughter Juliet. Paris asks for her hand in marriage, but Capulet refuses to allow her to marry at thirteen and tells Paris to “Let two more summer wither in their pride/ ere we may think her ripe to be a bride” (I, ii, 10-11). When Paris protests that girls thirteen-years-olds are already mothers, Capulet replies that “… too soon marred are those so early made” (I, ii, 13). He worries that she will die in childbirth at such a young age. Juliet is Capulet’s only living child and his hope for the future. In the fifth scene of the first act, Capulet is talking to the people at his party, and he shows how much of a good host he is. He says to the women “… ladies that have their toes/ unplagued by corns until walk a bout (Dance) with you” (I, V, 15-16). Here he’s getting the women to dance by joking with them. When Romeo walks into the party, Tybalt gets very angry, but Capulet stops...

...MKTG 2201 Market Segmentation/Product Homework Cadillac offers a very diverse business portfolio that targets a variety of people within the luxury class car market. Since the cheapest model of the five investigated starts at $33,000, buyers need to have a decent amount of money to spend in order to purchase a car of this quality. The ATS is a relatively inexpensive sporty model. It seems to target a certain demographic. It is not really a family oriented car so it appears to be targeted towards mid-income younger individuals or couples needing a car. The ATS appeals to a survivor/experiencers psychographic profile, since it’s an American made, fast, sleek car. ATS purchasers want to fly down back roads and really feel the car perform. Its behavior segmentation targets those who want a real experience while driving; they want to take chances and carve a path while driving. For this reason, the qualities of the ATS outlined on the website target this segment. The ATS is “built to take on the world,” with a lighter chassis, better acceleration and handling, with a great BOSE sound system as well. Cadillac ATS commercials feature young individuals tearing through rough environments, which really help display its target market. The XTS is the all-around car. It has a fantastic sound system, great braking system, and ultimate performance with comfort. I believe this car is aimed towards older (early 30s-early 40s), wealthy yet still single/just married demographic...

...Autobiography on Jonathan Davis Jonathan Davis, a middle-class boy at the age of 14, is an apprentice to his father Joseph Davis, a blacksmith. He lives in the town of Rochester during the 1800’s with his mother two sisters and four brothers, all between the ages of 6 months old- 16 years old. Jonathan goes to school from November to April because the other months are harvesting time. He dresses like his father with overalls and boots. Jonathan has been trying to save up money so he can afford to buy a hat for his pa when he has the sun beating on his head when they harvest the crops, corn, wheat, and beans. His father takes him out of school when it comes time for the harvesting season. All of the family except for his sisters and mother come to help them in the fields. The women in the family stay and clean the house or cook and tend to the babies. Joseph had taught him how to farm starting when Jonathan reached the age of 10, of course at that time he didn’t have the strength to lift the heavy wood so he would carry the water buckets to and from the fields to water the plants during the dry seasons. As an apprentice of his father’s Jonathan would help take orders and clean out the fire until he was old enough and more experienced enough to actually start making the items. Some of the items people would request where horseshoes, and parts for carriages. Shovels or other construction tools used for building had also been made in the blacksmith’s shop too. The men would...

...Column or Field Depending on what type of database management system you are working with, the terms column and field are often used interchangeably. Basically, a column represents one attribute of a record in a table. As an example, think about a table containing information from your email contacts list. The entries of your contact list would contain information such as name, email address, and telephone number. Each of these pieces of information would be considered a column or field. Database A database is an organized collection of information. This information can be stored as a set of text files or spreadsheets as well as in many other forms. Even a simple hand-written address book that contains basic information such as name, address, and phone number could be considered a database. Database Management System (DBMS) A database management system, or DBMS, is a tool or software application used to create and manipulate databases. Common examples of such applications that are used on a wide-scale basis are Google Spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel. Other programs that are more widely used by database developers include MySQL, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft SQL Server. Datatype The datatype of a column is a particular data format allowed in that column. For example, suppose one of the columns of your table is designated to contain the three-letter abbreviation for each month of the year. Then, the datatype of that column would be a character string consisting of exactly three...
