Throughout history there have been many Popes that have made a huge impact and may have paved the world we live in today.Pope Gelasius I successor of Felix III was a huge contributor in the upbringing of the papal supremacy in a conflict with Anastasius, the Byzantine emperor. This dispute was putting a wedge between Constantinople and Rome. Gelasius wrote a letter to Anastasius stating how he thought the power structure should be. The ancient Roman Catholic tradition dealt with the issue of royal absolutism with the doctrine of the "Two Swords," proposed by Pope Gelasius . Gelasius held that both the royal and priestly powers were bestowed by God, but that the pope's power was ultimately more important becaue priests will be held accountable
