Analyses of situation
Company’s policy is to throw away each day all items which would perish.
If one considers deontology and Kant’s categorical imperative (McCartney & Parent, n.d. b), it seems unethical to throw away perfectly good food as if it would be applied as a rule for society it would lead to huge wasting, for the other side taking anything is stealing and it is also unethical as it would lead to disorder and chaos.
If one considers utilitarian’s perspective (McCartney & Parent, n.d. a) one could consider both from the perspective of act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. As wasting food is not good for society it would be considered unethical to waste food, but it would be little more …show more content…
The company should make a training where would be explained why these rules are in place and how important is to follow rules in the first place and Jessica should be responsible for ensuring that every employee understands these policies.
To minimise wasting, company should also consider reducing the prices of these perishable items some time before closing (this time could be optimised during the time to ensure that there is a minimum waste but maximum profit).
