...How to Plan and Post a Perfect Pergola Pergolas can be the perfect backyard oasis, but they're also fun to build. They're a perfect blend of big honkin' timbers, some pretty neat carpentry and a little landscaping thrown in for good measure. The simple combination of posts and open rafters is ideal for highlighting entrances, masking storage areas, providing privacy and especially creating some shade. I built this one as a focal point for an outdoor dining area—and to reclaim an unused patch of the backyard. By Mark Clement Email Print Comments Share April 23, 2009 12:00 AM Text Size: A . A . A Materials and Design It's just four posts and some boards, but a pergola must stand plumb, level and square through all kinds of weather. I chose attractive, naturally rot-resistant western red cedar for this job. I've built plenty of pergolas with pressure-treated lumber too--if you go that route, just make sure the lumber is rated for ground contact. Vinyl and composites, which often come in ready-to-assemble kits, also work well. For this project, I built a frame on the ground to mark my four posts' locations before digging. I moved the frame out of the way, dug the postholes and brought the frame back. Then I backfilled the 6 x 6 posts and fastened them to the frame. This method works for pergolas in open lawn space. If you are building over an existing stone patio, don't anchor the structure directly to the patio. Instead, remove some stones, dig footings and...

One of the main concerns is static electricity also referred to as electro static discharge. Voltage as little as 300 volts can damage the integral components to put in comparison; when you feel static electricity is already 3000 volts. Here are some protocols to reduce or eliminate ESD. - Keep the temperature around 75 degrees - Humidity between 68 and 72 % would be ideal to reduce dry air the inducing ESD. - The use of a static mat would be preferred; ensure the mat is grounded and wear the grounding strap according the specifications. - Keep pets away, especially cats as they...

...Project in TLE Procedures in Installing Windows 7 Submitted to: Sir Jomari Macayan Submitted by: Mark Gabriel M. Mataya How to Install Windows 7 Part 1 of 3: Installing Using a Disc Clean Install * A clean install is intended for users who want to freshly install Windows on their computer (by deleting all of the data on the hard disk and then installing Windows) or computers that do not have an operating system yet. 1. Enter your computer's BIOS. Turn off the computer that you want to install Windows on then turn it back on. When the BIOS screen appears or you are prompted to do so, press ⌦ Del, ⎋ Esc, F2, F10, or F9 (depending on your computer’s motherboard) to enter the system BIOS. The key to enter the BIOS is usually shown on the screen. 2. Find your BIOS's boot options menu. The boot options menu of your BIOS may vary in location or name from the illustration, but you may eventually find it if you search around. * If you can't find the boot options menu, search the name of your BIOS (most likely located in the BIOS menu) online for help. 3. Select the CD-ROM drive as the first boot device of your computer. * Although this method may vary among computers, the boot options menu is typically a menu of moveable device names where you should set your CD-ROM drive as the first boot device. It can also be a list of devices that you can set the order of their boot on. Consult a manual or the internet for help if you're...

...How to Change A Car Battery Step 1: Make Sure Your Battery Needs To Be Changed * Check the battery terminals. They may be top posts or side posts (depending on the model of your car). CAUTION! The following is an example of corroded battery posts. Corrosion is due to heat and acid leaking through the battery. You WILL want to use a pair of gloves for this or say goodbye to your smooth hands. * If your terminals and battery posts look clean and undamaged then you are in luck. You do not have to change your battery and you get to save money! Step 2: Remove Your Car Battery * First, you will need the proper tools. This includes a socket wrench with a 10mm or 8mm socket. Again, it all depends on your battery terminal size. You will also need gloves and safety glasses. ALWAYS WORK SAFELY! If you’ve never seen tools before, this is a socket wrench with a socket attached to it. * Second, you will place the socket wrench on the battery terminal screw and begin to remove. Remember, “lefty loosy and righty tighty.” Step 3: Place in the New Battery WARNING! When installing, make sure the positive battery post (+) is installed with the red terminal and the negative battery post (-) is installed with the black terminal. If you mix these up, this will cause serious electrical damage to your car and a battery is the least of your problems. * You want to make sure that you install the proper battery that your car needs. Check with your owner’s manual...
