There are many shipping services, what makes one of them better than the next? In the United States Postal Service advertisement, they are trying to convince businesses to ship with them, by selling safety and security. The ad uses visual and verbal techniques to portray those ideas.

What do postal services do differently to help businesses decide which service to use? Some offer low flat rates, cheap postage and direct deliveries, while others offer safety or protection. In the United states postal service ad, it portrays a sense of safety. The Visual effects of four mail trucks with different, well known business logos helps the reader understand a sense of safety and trustworthiness from the USPS. I feel the ad is also trying to play in …show more content…
Showing that they not only care about your shipping needs but support you in ways of success and efficiency. By making it easy to ship anywhere. Another point the Postal ad makes verbally is part of the USPS logo, “Priority: you” (USPS 15).

Usually Postal service ads may use logic or character to sell businesses to use their company but, the United States Postal Service uses pathos or emotion to persuade businesses. By playing on business owners emotions or desires, the ad creates a sense of safety and security. In my opinion, the postal service made a good choice to use pathos because, when concerning small business owners, the owners may not have a backup plan if something happens to their product in the shipping process. So when a small business owner looks at this ad he or she may see a safe and secure shipping service.

In conclusion, I feel the USPS ad was effective for what they are trying to sell. The ad does not state that the USPS has low prices or easy and fast shipping but it does portray a sense of safety. If the United States Postal Service doesn’t offer the items listed above it was a good move to focus more on how much they care and not what the costumers have to spend. I feel like the United States Postal Service has done an excellent job at selling businesses to ship with them but, also selling safety and
