The Pottawatomie Massacre occurred when John Brown, his sons ,and other antislavery people attacked proslavery settlements. They killed 5 proslavery people near Pottawatomie ,in Franklin County. This massacre was brutal, dangerous, and caused more violence between proslavery and antislavery people. Soon after the Pottawatomie Massacre, was the Marais des Cygnes Massacre. This was when proslavery men attacked and kidnapped 11 free-staters. Five of the free-staters were killed, 5 injured, but one managed to escape. John Brown lived his life by the saying "The end justifies the means". This is true because he brutally attacked many people (means), so he could reach his end goal of abolishing slavery.
