...Ariel Johnson Art of Theatre Play review Almost Maine I will be writing my play review on Almost Maine, A story about many different love stories and characters that go through many obstacles and challenges when trying to find love. I will get into my analysis of the actors in da play and how they grabbed my attention. In the beginning of the segment there were two characters, male and female who were sitting on the floor during a cold snowy Friday night; in the middle of winter. Due to the effects that there was white powder that surrounded the area and the actors were shivering and wearing heavy clothing. Throughout the segment, they both wore scarfs, hats and jackets. The actors used the empty spaces as the lines were spoken. Later on in other segments the use of props were of special value. For example in one scene characters used clay making of a shaped cartoon heart to indicate a broken heart. A Glass bottle was used as a beer bottle full of beer although it contained no liquid at all. The use of unseen spaces were very active throughout the play the knocks behind the stage were of somebody knocking on the door and the curtains displayed as a door in almost every scene. One scene in particular changed the way the curtains this time they weren’t used as a door they were used as sets of people in a party in which a hostess could be called just by the sound of a holler. The play itself used a lot of space on the stage. Each scene involved a new space that included some...

...Literary Analysis Jennifer Marchant ENG125: Introduction to Literature Instructor: Jennifer Rupp 04/08/2013 Literary Analysis Even though everyone interprets symbolism in a story differently, the literary elements in the story are what help determine the theme. Point of view and symbolism are also factors that affect the theme of a story, as well as how the reader interprets it. The short story, “The Gift of The Magi”, there are several literary elements included in the story that would affect the theme. The overall theme of this particular short story is love. “…Mr. James Dillingham Young came home and reached his flat above he was called "Jim" and greatly hugged by Mrs. James Dillingham Young, already introduced to you as Della. Which is all very good…” (Clugston, 2010). The couple loved each other so much, that the two of them always had the best interest of the other at heart. They would nearly do anything for the other, if able. The symbolism shown in this particular story shows that because they loved each other so greatly, and even with their living conditions not being at best, they still sacrificed the little things that they thought to be so precious to them, just so they could both purchase gifts for the other during the holidays. “…Now, there were two possessions of the James Dillingham Youngs, in which they both took a mighty pride. One was Jim's gold watch that had been his father's and his grandfather's. The other was Della's hair…” (Clugston, 2010)...

...first few days after giving birth, before true milk appears. It contains proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and proteins (antibodies) that fight disease-causing agents such as bacteria and viruses.(1)Today it is consumed as supplement in the way of colostrum milk powder, capsules and tablets. COLOSTRUM IN THE ANCIENT WORLD Colostrum was used in ancient times by different cultures for both nourishment and remedial purposes. In an apocryphal work entitled "The Book of Sirach" (written sometime between 300-275 BC), this "first milk" from a female animal who had just given birth, was ranked up there with wheat, honey, salt, water, fire and iron as being some ofthe "necessities oflife." (R.H. Charles' The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of The Old Testament (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1976; I: 459).(2) PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS In 1978, A study was done by Foley and Otterby. Fifty-five Holstein herds were selected in 15 Pennsylvania counties to represent nearly 90% of all dairy operations in the state. Colostrum samples were taken from one cow per farm within four hours of calving and were refrigerated and transported on ice, and then aliquots were taken for storage at -20°C for later analysis. (3) At the final of the study, they developed the table of the change in composition over the first five milkings compared to regular milk. As seen in the table, the percent of immunoglobulins and IgG, which are certain types of protein involved in promoting the immune system...

...brandedentertainment Case study: BMW movies – luxury car to movie star Charles Young and Amy Shea Hall, Ameritest, examine a famous piece of branded entertainment, and show how two similar films have different effects F ADE IN: An impossibly handsome man guides his convertible up to a dilapidated house on a deserted street. He exits; his white suit glints in the sun as he surveys the landscape from behind impenetrable sunglasses. In his hand, a metallic attaché case. Members of a SWAT team manoeuvre silently behind a fence. The driver takes out his cell phone and dials. A man’s voice answers. The driver says simply ‘I’m here.’ The latest Hollywood blockbuster? A prime-time TV drama? Neither. It’s advertising. Or, more accurately, advertising on steroids, aka branded entertainment. This is the opening of ‘The Hostage’, produced by BMW and their former ad agency, Fallon, employing A-list director John Woo. To understand why this and seven other BMW films were made, one need only look to the challenges facing the long-time prime brand-advertising venue: TV. Media platforms are multiplying; the internet moves ever closer to being our primary source of information, music and entertainment; and TV recording technology allows for easier ad-skipping. Advertisers worldwide are searching for new ways to use the power of film to reach increasingly elusive viewers. It is easy to be drawn in to these films and forget that they had, from their inception, a purpose beyond brilliant...

...STUDY REPORT No. 146 (2005) Reactive Powder Concrete N.P. Lee & D.H. Chisholm The work reported here was funded by Building Research Levy. © BRANZ 2006 ISSN: 0113-3675 Preface The low flexural tensile strength of concrete has a number of undesirable consequences for its performance as an effective building material. These include the necessity for auxiliary steel reinforcement and the requirement for thick-sectioned members that are both aesthetically unappealing and consume significant quantities of aggregates. The aggregates are an increasingly scarce resource in many urban areas. An emerging technology with the potential to overcome these limitations is reactive powder concrete (RPC). RPC is a cold-cast cementitious material in which the mechanical properties of the composite matrix are improved by (i) suppression of the weak interfacial transition zone normally developed around the aggregate through improved particle packing and (ii) refinement of the hydrated paste microstructure by extensive use of pozzolanic silica and elevated temperature curing. Tensile capacity is provided by steel micro-fibres rather than conventional reinforcement. The result is a material with the potential for flexural strength up to 50 MPa and ductility and energy absorption values approaching those of steel. The low and non-connected porosity of RPC also render it extremely durable. RPC offers the possibility of building with concrete using slender members in a ‘steel-like’ ...

...Rather, it is disguised as a “nagging uneasiness felt by his characters”. As the protagonist, Kaname is the foremost example of this uneasiness. He is torn between embracing the modernising Taisho world with its Western liberalism, and his inner self which is progressively more drawn to traditional martial bondage. Kaname’s ambivalence towards informing his son of crisis of his marriage and the numerous excuses he offers for his inaction is evidence of the discrepancies that exist between what he wants to do and what he should do. For example, he references the prospect of his son losing composure at school as a reason to forego informing him whilst he is at school, “he [the son] may be breaking into tears right in the class”. Tanizaki situates this passivity as cultural friction which fundamentally occurs...

...William Makepeace Thackeray Vanity Fair Analysis of the following chapter: Chapter XLVIII: In Which the Reader Is Introduced to the Very Best of Company In the chapter Rebecca Sharp finally is presented at Court — the height of her ambition. The omnipresence of the author making philosophical diagrations on different matters is a characteristic feature of the novel. The passage contains of two paragraphs, and the most part of it is the author’s phylosophical and ironic contemplation on Vanity Fair representatives’ relation to those being presented at Court and to the King himself. The figure of the King is the central one in the extract. Portaying the King, Thackeray uses the words with positive connotations: “the Good, the Magnificent, the Great”, etc. They acquire the opposite sense in the context. And this is a common feature of ironic description. Irony turns to be the key device of the passage. In the presence of the monarch the representatives of the Vanity Fair seem to be going into ecstasies: “How they cheered, and cried, and waved handkerchiefs. Ladies wept; mothers clasped their children”. We observe here many sentences with homogeneous parts, parallel constructions, which are used to give a full image of a crowd cheering in the presence of their monarch. And, so, George V is represented as The King of the Vanity Fair. The process and consequences of being presented to the Sovereign at Court are likened to the sacrament of the Eucharist. In the first paragraph...

...Invitro evaluation and optimization of controlled release chitosan beads of Metformin hydrochloride Manjisa Choudhury, Tanaya Sarma, Samridh Srivastava, Vino S. School of Bio Sciences and Technology, VIT University, Vellore - 632014, Tamil Nadu, India manji.choudhury@gmail.com; +91-9626413610 Abstract Beads of chitosan, in the free and metformin HCl encapsulated forms were prepared by Chitosan/ TPP polyelectrolyte complex. The particles were further stabilized by crosslinking with glutaraldehyde. The size of the particles was found to be in the range of 1.0 to 2.0 mm. Both free and metformin HCL encapsulated Chitosan beads were analyzed by FTIR, Differential Scanning Calorimetry and X-ray diffraction studies. The rate of drug release was investigated by in vitro dissolution studies using UV spectroscopy. The results indicate that these Crosslinked chitosan beads are capable of controlled and sustained release of meformin HCL upto a maximum time of 12 h in PBS at pH 7.4. Keywords: Chitosan, Metformin HCl, Controlled drug delivery, In-Vitro release. Introduction Large number of active compounds is discovered that could serve as therapeutics but very few candidates show clinical success. Their poor activity in vivo is often due to the reason of their low bioavailability. Bioavailability is basically the rate and the extent at which a drug enters and affects the target tissue (Kidane, 2005). When a drug is administered systemically, its bioavailability is...
