...design II. Introduction of the design A power supply is a device that supplies electrical energy to one or more electric loads. The term is most commonly applied to devices that convert one form of electrical energy to another. A regulated power supply is one that controls the output voltage or current to a specific value, the controlled value is held nearly constant despite variations in either load current or the voltage supplied by the power supply's energy source. Variable power supplies are common laboratory and service shop test equipment, allowing the output voltage to be adjusted over a range. Generally, a power outage can be identified as a power cut, power failure or blackout. This can be addressed as loss of electricity power to a specific area. Nevertheless, there are different causes of power failure in electricity which can easily cause damages to human and business operations. It is fairly settled in the literature that infrastructure plays a critical and positive role in economic development. Infrastructure interacts with the economy through multiple and complex processes. It represents an intermediate input to production, and thus changes in infrastructure quality and quantity affect the profitability of production, and invariably the levels of income, output and employment. Moreover, infrastructure services raise the productivity of other factors of production. Currently in Nigeria, lack of electricity supply is one of major infrastructure problem affecting...

...ATX Power Supply Failure Diagnostics The first step in the troubleshooting process is simply determining if the power supply is coming on. You can usually hear the mechanical components in PCs that make rotational noise when they are powered up. Noise makers include the hard drive, as its electric motor spins up the platters, and plenty of fan noise is normal for PCs without PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fans. Your PC should also give a single beep if it passes its internal start-up diagnostic, and there are always status LED's to tell you the system is on, though some home PC builders don't bother connecting them. If your hearing isn't good, you can check to see if the power supply fan is creating a breeze. Monitors are powered independently, so unless you're looking at a notebook PC, a live screen doesn't indicate a working power supply. If your computer has a display connected, can you get a live screen, whether it's a simple text message or a colorful splash screen? If the display shows a message like "No video signal detected," that's the monitor telling you the video port isn't communicating, so you should follow the "No" path for this decision. Sometimes a CRT or older LCD may show a multiplicity of images or endless scrolling, which means the video adapter is alive and trying to transmit an image but the monitor can't interpret the signals. This doesn't happen as often with modern LCDs or expensive CRTs that can match a large range of inputs for higher screen resolutions...

...Essay Power supply is a device used to provide the electric energy to operate the devices running by electric power. It has many special way to provide electric energy to a specific system “ it is mother of the system “ ( Brown, 2001, p.1 ). The basic function of power supply is to convert Alternative Current voltage to regulated Direct Current voltage that required by electronic devices. A typical power supply has four different modules each of them has a specific function. Transformer is the first module and its function is to convert high voltage Alternative Current to low voltage Direct Current. The second module is Rectifier and its main function is to convert low voltage Alternative Current to Direct Current. The third module is smoothing, the Direct Current produced by the rectifier is varying, so smoothing reduce this varying to small rippling. Last module is regulator, it set the Direct Current voltage to constant value by remove the ripples. This is a basic design of power supply. The design can be huge and complicated based on the requirements. This essay will present the four major types of power supply which are Linear Regulators and Switching Mode Power Supply, Programmable Power Supply, Uninterruptible Power Supply. The first type of power supply is Linear regulated power supply. It is the basic type of power supply. It produce the regulated output voltage by drop the input voltage. “it is though, a very electrically quiet power supply” (Brown, 2001, p...

...Eikon Device Inc is a small tattoo equipment and supplies firm in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The company’s businesses are mainly focus on the traditional tattoo machine, needles and their high-end power supply in the US and Canada. The board of ED is consisted with seven directors and the management is in good shape. ED is good at manufacturing specially designed tattoo equipments; needles and the tattoo operate power supplies which are the core competences of the company. Until 2013, the company has expanded into a full service tattoo supplier with 50 employees and a 24,000 square foot facility. Their reputation has spread to oversea, like Europe, Japan, Australia and South Africa. As their rapid growing market shares, the company needs to find a solution to expand the market and increase sales. There are two alternatives for considering which are establishment of a new distributional facility in other country and continuing products diversification in the North America market. Because of the restricted scale of company, ED can just undertake one alternative at the same time. The company has to decide if they should build facility oversea to become a multinational company or further expand new products line in the North America. Internal and External Analysis: Eikon Device Inc was established in 1994. Currently, there are two founders in the board of director. Dean Byrnes is the president and Monika Stengele occupies the VP marketing. Another founder, Bill Baker who is a tattoo...

...DEVEOLPMENT OF BIOMETRICALLY CONTROLLED DOOR SYSTEM (USING IRIS), WITH POWER BACKUP ABSTRACT Doors are known to provide major functions such as protection, safety to a building or place from any invasion. Therefore, the capability of a door system to provide privacy and security when demanded is worthwhile. Automatic door is a new way of creating doors without the need to manually apply force in the case of doors with handles or keys. Using a computer to control the opening and closing of the door with the use of programming skills makes the door more flexible and adaptable to changes when required. The biometrics technology based on Iris recognition can be used in the development and automation of security doors. Biometrics as a form of software technology is applicable in automation to create security and restrict unrecognized assessment of the machine infrastructure. Biometrics is a human identification/authentication technology based on physical, biological, and behavioral characteristics. These characteristics include face, fingerprint, iris, voice, and hand geometry. Compared to traditional authentication methods, biometrics is more reliable and convenient. Among them, it is reported that iris is one of the most reliable biometrics. ...* 3. 2131DC Power Supplies 5. VoltageDivider. Its function is to provide different dc-voltages needed by different electronic circuits. It consists of a number of resistors connected in series across the output terminals of the voltage regulator. Obviously, it eliminates the necessity of providing separate dc power supplies to different electronic circuits working on different dc levels. Comments. Strictly speaking, all that is really required for conversion from ac to dc is a trans- former and a rectifier (in fact, even the transformer could be eliminated if no voltage transformation is required). The filter, voltage regulator and voltage divider are mere refinements of a dc power supply though they are essential for most applications except for battery charging and running small dc motors etc. 55.4. Rectifiers We will consider the following circuits : 1. single-phase half-wave rectifier, 2. single-phase full-wave rectifier, 3. full-wave bridge circuit, 4. three-phase half-wave rectifier, 5. three-phase full-wave rectifier, 6. six-phase half-wave rectifier, 7. three-phase bridge circuit, 8. voltage multiplier circuits. Many semiconductor devices or systems (like car stereo systems) require a negative dc source or both a negative and a positive dc source. For the sake of simplicity, we will analyse only the positive dc power supplies. However, a positive dc supply can be converted into a negative one by simply reversing the two leads in the same way as we reverse the polarity...

...approach, due to huge demand from visitors. Pin-wise functioning of IC555 timer Pin-1, GROUND: It is the GROUND PIN of the IC. The negative terminal of DC power supply or battery is connected to this pin. Here note that IC555 works always on single rail power supply and NEVER on dual power supply, unlike operational amplifiers. Also note that this pin should be connected directly to ground and NOT through any resistor or capacitor. If done so, the IC will not function properly and may heat up and get damaged. This happens because all the semiconductor blocks inside the IC will be raised by certain amount of stray voltage and will damage the IC. Refer the block diagram of the IC for more details. For more details read elaborate collection of FAQ on this IC. Pin-2, TRIGGER It is known as TRIGGER PIN. As the name suggests in triggers i.e. starts the timing cycle of the IC. It is connected to the inverting input terminal of trigger comparator inside the IC. As this pin is connected to inverting input terminal, it accepts negative voltage pulse to trigger the timing cycle. So it triggers when the voltage at this pin LESS THAN 1/3 of the supply voltage (Vcc). In number of applications, the IC must be triggered by a pulse. The amplitude and minimum pulse width required for triggering depend on operating temperature and supply voltage of the IC. Generally the current required for triggering is about 0.5uA for a period of 0.1uS. The triggering voltage may be in a range from minimum...

...capacitors. Equipment: − − − − AC power supply (set to 10V) Three 0.1µF capacitors, one 0.01µF capacitor, one unknown capacitor Multimeter 4 cables Theory: Capacitors are electronic devices which have fixed values of capacitance and negligible resistance. The capacitance C is the charge stored in the device, Q, divided by the voltage difference across the device, ∆V: C = Q/∆V (1) The schematic symbol of a capacitor is has two vertical (or horizontal) lines a small distance apart (representing the capacitor plates) connected to two lines representing the connecting wires or leads). There are two ways to connect capacitors in an electronic circuit - series or parallel connection. Series: In a series connection the components are connected at a single point, end to end as shown below: C1 C2 For a series connection, the charge on each capacitor will be the same and the voltage drops will add. We can find the equivalent capacitance, Ceq, from Q · 1/Ceq = ∆V = ∆V1 + ∆V2 = Q/C1 + Q/C2 = Q [1/C1+1/C2] 1/Ceq = 1/C1 + 1/C2 (2) (3) Parallel: In the parallel connection, the components are connected together at both ends as shown below: C1 C2 For a parallel connection, the voltage drops will be the same, but the charges will add. Then the equivalent capacitance can be calculated by adding the charges: Ceq ∆V = Q = Q1 + Q2 = C1∆V + C2∆V = [C1+C2] ∆V Ceq = C1 + C2 (5) (6) Procedure: Figure 2. AC power supply Figure 1.
