...1 Assignment 2 Research Report (40%) Due Friday 15th April 2011 The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to gathering, analysing and reporting research data. The focus is on examining Piaget’s concepts in a practical way. It links to your achievement of the Unit Outcomes 3 and 4: 3 Collect, analyse and interpret data with respect to the domains of development. 4 Develop academic essay and report writing skills The assignment consists of clear steps which are outlined below: Gathering the data (revisit Chapter 2 for information on ethics, observation and note taking) Collect about 20 small items that can be sorted or categorised in multiple ways e.g. shells, screws / nails, buttons, pictures from a shopping catalogue or magazine etc. Select two people of different ages. A larger discrepancy (a primary school aged child and an adult; or a preschooler and an adolescent for example) will be easier for you but you may need just to work with people you have easy access to. Explain that you need to ask people of different ages to do a short activity for a university assignment. It should take a maximum of about 20 minutes. Gain their consent to participate in your study. Make sure you submit signed consent forms (see link under “Assessments”) from the participants. It is important that you learn normal research protocol, and this demands that, irrespective of whether or not the person is a family member, you would need to have them sign the consent form...

...Adolescent times of storm and stress revised Hanne Op de Beeck Leuven Institute of Criminology (LINC) Hanne.Opdebeeck@law.kuleuven.be ABSTRACT This paper focuses on two issues regarding theories of adolescence. The first one, which has been a topic of discussion for a long time, concerns whether adolescence should be regarded as either an uncomplicated or a turbulent period. In the latter case, it is aspired in this paper to find out which factors account for such turbulence. The second issue, which arose more recently, concerns the continually longer postponement of the transition to adulthood. These topics are empirically addressed using the data of the second Flemish Youth Monitor. Analyses indicate that the loss of childhood innocence causes adolescents to have a more realistic evaluation of live, self and relationships. For adolescents whose ties with parents and their school environment are less tight, this can cause heightened stress in terms of lowered selfesteem and negative future prospects. These stresses, however, cannot account for the rise in delinquent activity during this developmental stage, for the analyses indicate that adolescent delinquency rather results from a more outgoing lifestyle. Finally, the idea of a prolongation of ‘storm and stress’ cannot be supported by the data, since it is found that most youth find their balance back around age 22. 1. STORM AND STRESS? The idea of adolescence being a period of ‘storm and stress’ – a perspective which was introduced...

...Andrew Assesment Parma lee elementary school has a diverse population of students from different backgrounds. It has Caucasians, African Americans, Asians, Native Americans among others. However, the majority of the students have a Hispanic background. The students in this school range from 3-5 years (preschool) and 6 to12 (school Age), and l noticed an equal distribution of boys and girls. Given the large population of Hispanics, some of the preschoolers with this ethnic background could not express themselves in English. However, they were helped by their peers during the screening. The screening incorporated Height and weight, blood pressure, checking hearing abilities and dental status. The preschool stage of development according to Erikson is initiative vs. Guilt. The goal of preschoolers is to acquire independence as they perform learned tasks. In other words being able undertake and accomplish tasks without interferences from care givers or their teachers. During this stage, preschoolers are learning new experiences for instance learning how to read and write, putting up puzzles, getting on a weighing scale by themselves among others. Giving them an opportunity to perform these tasks creates a sense of independence, and thus fulfilling their physical abilities successfully. Failure for preschoolers to achieve learned tasks creates a feeling of frustration leading to negative behaviors. Such behaviors include throwing objects, yelling, crying, and thus hesitating...

...Introduction: Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd university is an upcoming university. With that being said, it is still in the process of improvement and setting roots to become one of the strongest universities out here. One of the ways of improvement is to have a good dining system. Sadly, the location of the university is quite far from the city and no near restaurants to make it easier for the girls to go out and have a proper meal. So, it’s a struggle for the girls of PMU to find alternative restaurants than the one that is currently provided on campus. In this study, it shows how opening Chili’s at PMU can be beneficial. Students can be more focused and productive due to having a proper meal. Chili’s is a highly known restaurant, especially in Saudi. Having chili’s on campus would make their lives easier and would look make them happier to see that the university is listening to what they wants and coming up with solutions to make all students happy. My expectation about this study is to help PMU improve their system and show them how this study can be beneficial for the university not only for the students, but also can be profitable. Literature Review During my research, I found a similar case in the University of Western Sydney when they open a restaurant in Parramatta campus. They claim that opening a restaurant on campus, it is a perfect place for corporate lunches or catching up with friends. In our case, this shows that opening a Chili’s could be very beneficial...

...Executive Summary: Our business plan is to open up and maintain an academy in the sports industry, under the name Touchline Football Academy or TFA, specialized in coaching and training members in the sport of soccer. Our activities will be based in a sports facility in the heart of Montreal at the Soccerplexe whereby the collaboration agreement with that facility dictates the permission of our use of their soccer fields in return to a variable fee; which is a predetermined percentage of our total revenues. The academy will also hold an office located on First avenue in Lachine, which will be the headquarter of our operations as to management and conferencing, as well as a liaison with parent and business acquaintances that needs addressing in a professional fashion. Our academy will reap its revenues mainly from memberships sold to members on a monthly basis. Other revenues coming in are from sponsorships, as well as the sales of kits and equipment. Our targeted customers are males, residing in Montreal, and in the ages between 5 to 22+ years old. A mass marketing campaign will be conducted as a dedicated effort during the initiation of the business, in an attempt to acquire the maximum exposure and market outreach possible. This marketing strategy will be costly and require a significant budget; however, it will give us access to the wide potential market in this industry, as shown by the demographics research (elaborated in detail within this booklet). ...The two sections of date that I picked for this assignment is gender for the qualitative data and intrinsic for quantitative data. The data selected will be discussed and analysis until a conclusion is made. For qualitative data I picked gender. I put gender because I felt that is was the best option of the two. The gender I picked was female. I picked female because I’m female. The quantitative data I picked was Intrinsic. I picked intrinsic because Of what the definition said it was which was belonging naturally. A qualitative variable is a variable without a sense of order. A qualitative variable is measured on a nominal scale. A nominal scale is a scale with no order but has some numeric values are nominal. An example nominal scale would be the data showed on the excel sheet for this assignment where male and female are showed as, 1-male and 2-female. Quantitative variables are numerical. An example of quantitative variables would be the number of people in a town which is a measurable attribute. Population is a quantitative variable. An easy way to remember the two variables is when you think of qualitative variables think or something being categorical and when you think of quantitative think of numerical. Qualitative variable The data above use qualitative variable. As stated before a qualitative variable is measured on a nominal scale. A nominal scale is a scale with no order but has some numeric values. An example nominal scale would be the data showed...

...and globalization. It is possible to make a statement that in the age of turbulence, if such reality is handled by an individual in a proper manner, one wins. In order to understand the core reason of success in one organisation and lack of success in another one, it is essential to refer to the flow of large-scale and effective change efforts. In accordance with the classification, offered by Kotter and Cohen's in The Heart of Change, there are eight steps, incorporated into the change. They are the following: 1. Creating the sense of urgency in order to motivate smart people to tell other participants of the process that here is a need to go and to change the things; 2. Pulling together a guiding team, which is powerful enough for guiding a big change. 3. Creating simple, clear and uplifting visions and the setting the strategies. 4. ...uncertainty, and ever changing. It’s divided into three sections. The first two chapters discuss the reasons behind the failure of more than 100 companies of making themselves better competitors. The author discusses the reasons behind the failure of most organizations even though they throw money and effort to win, and how executives and leaders can turn the thinking processes and behavior of large groups around. Many organizations are failing because they follow the philosophy “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. The author calls companies to embrace transformations from the old strategy of micro-managing, constant strategizing, downsizing, and new cost-cutting approaches to the twenty-first century strategy of leading change. The author talks about how managers and leaders are quite different, and explains that manager is trained to think in a risk-limiting manner. The next section discusses Kotter’s Eight Stage Change Process that provides a detailed framework to guide leaders for change. The eight stage process are: (1) Establishing a sense of urgency, (2) Creating a guiding coalition, (3) Developing a vision and strategy, (4) Communicating the change vision, (5) Empowering broad-base action, (6) Generating short-term wins, (7) Consolidating gains and producing more change,...
