Observation: Women’s Lacrosse As I observed the women’s lacrosse practice I noticed the qualities of the coaching and tempo of the practice that has lead to their success in the recent years. The practice was very fast pace and only took place on one half of the field. The parts that stood out to me the most was during the second half of the practice. One drill that was performed had the offense and defense split into two teams with the offense starting at midfield. Within the offensive side there were three groups of three players and they were attacking a defense made up of three players as well, not including the goalie in the net. There was a coach at the 50-yard line who was throwing the ball in to the offense. Once one of the offensive players caught the ball they all went into an attack distributing the among each other numerous times before getting close enough to take a shot. This was a great drill to do because it allowed the players to get a maximum amount of reps with decent amount of time in between each group and allowed the coach to see a controlled amount of players in a game like situation. The other drill in the second half of the practice brought the offensive group closer to the goal. The offense was given the ball at about 15-yards from the goal. They were around the parameter of the goal with about four to five players trying to score while the defense was guarding them trying to get a turnover. This drill really stood out to me as well because this was a great competition drill forcing the defense to play their best and to see if the offense could score a goal with a lot of defenders around the goal and a confined amount of room to move in. All of the drills performed in the practice had a direct influence on the pace and how the coach wants the team to attack as well as defend in a game like situation. Competition is one of the most important aspects of a practice in my opinion and this was achieved in nearly every drill performed throughout the practice.

...Evidence based practice (EBP) in nursing has many varied definitions among the nurses, my favorite definition is “the integration of the best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values” (Sacket et al., 2000). My practice setting to date has been my clinical rotations and preceptorship. While my experience in the hospital setting is limited, there is a key observation I have made regarding evidence based practice and desired patient outcomes. This observation is based on three codes I witnessed in three different hospitals. Having completed my ACLS and EKG certification on summer break last year just prior to beginning my high acuity rotation, I was familiar with the protocol for running a code. There are very clear guidelines set forth by the AHA (which is the only course accepted by the hospitals in Palm Beach County). According to the AHA, these guidelines are” based on the scientific consensus of resuscitation experts from a variety of countries, cultures, and disciplines,” ("2010 Guidelines for CPR and ECC," 2013) using the most recent research, clinical application, and positive patient outcomes. These guidelines having been implemented into the respective hospital’s “safe practice” employee protocol, it was interesting and frightening to see just how horribly wrong things could go when not following EBP.
