...Debate Paper XBCOM/275 February 8, 2015 Debate Paper Prayer in our schools today has almost died out completely. Prayer is a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to god or an object of worship. As it states in the First Amendment that it protects the right to freedom of expression from government interference. Although prayer in school may focus on religion, violate the first amendment, and separation of church and state, there are some good things and bad that come out of prayer in schools. Being that we are an unequal society and everyone has his or her own personal opinion on prayer in our schools; it still remains one of the most controversial issues today. Just like the different types of religion. The decision to take prayer out of public schools has become one of the most controversial issues throughout our society. The argument of whether prayer should or should not be allowed is so misunderstood. When determining whether or not prayer should be allowed in public schools, it is important to consider both the advantages and disadvantages. In our society, 90% of America’s children attend public schools. The children that attend public schools come from homes that use a fluctuation of religion or don’t practice religion at all. The good and bad of prayer in public schools are not a cut and dry issue. There are many outlets to this matter. The arguments of the people that want to banish prayer in the school system are not giving...

...If there's a specific religion with which you are unfamiliar, research the basic beliefs of that religion to form the basis of a fascinating research paper. Because religions are complicated and dynamic, it's impossible to outline the entire doctrine of a religion in a single paper. Instead, stick to a limited topic. For example, you might research the ethical mandates of Christianity or the gods of Hinduism. Explore History and Religion If you find a particular religion fascinating, explore it through a historical lens. For example, you might research the historical evidence that Jesus existed or address the social trends that led to the rise of Islam. For such a paper, rely primarily on secular and historical sources, though you can use the religion's sacred texts to inform your historical analysis. ...DOES JESUS BELONG IN PARLIAMENT? AN EXAMINATION OF FREEDOM OF RELIGION PROVISIONS IN PUBLIC BODIES IN NEW ZEALAND, CANADA, AND THE UNITED STATES by ELIZABETH G. FOX 28 August 2009 1 I INTRODUCTION New Zealand does not have a state religion in the way that other countries do.1 The Church of England, for example, has its doctrine and prayer book ratified by Parliament and has the Queen as supreme authority over both ecclesiastical and civil matters.2 However, the central legislators of this country listen to the Speaker of the House open each Parliamentary session with the following prayer.3 Almighty God, humbly acknowledging our need for Thy guidance in all things, and laying aside all private and personal interests, we beseech Thee to grant that we may conduct the affairs of this House and of our country to the glory of Thy holy name, the maintenance of true religion and justice, the honour of the Queen, and the public welfare, peace, and tranquillity of New Zealand, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Is this appropriate in a country that professes no state church and the tolerance of all religions equally?4 Religious content has historically infiltrated governing and administrative bodies. However, with the cultural disestablishment of Christianity and the emergence of toleration for all faiths, there continues to be the presence and preference of a small set of religions by the State. The degree to which religion interacts with the State varies with...

...Consumer Behaviour Term Paper Consumer Behaviour Insights in Marketing of Religion Saksham Srivastava (PGP/16/224) IIM Kozhikode sakshams16@iimk.ac.in, saksham1926@gmail.com Abstract Religion has been a part of the human civilisation for thousands of years, if not millions. Right from cavemen to white collar jobs, human beings have always strived to have a reason for survival. We have looked for the meaning of life since the beginning. Such a search is always accompanied by a belief in something. Sportsmen believe in their workout regime and training sessions to enable them to excel in their respective sports. Young students believe in the hours they’ve spent studying, to enable them to excel in their examinations. The origins of religion, lie in the belief of God, which is said to help people live a life of virtue. Religion has come to be defined by two schools of thought in today’s time. One school of thought is the believers, the ones who are on ‘religion’s side’, and the others, atheists, who don’t follow any religion and do not believe in the existence of God. Rather than being a rigid classification, the above division is more of a spectrum. Various degrees of theism and atheism exist with the middle path lying somewhere between mono-theists and agnostics. The science versus religion debate has been one of the most followed ongoing debates of the last and the current century. The reasons for the emergence of such a debate have been various, like, the Dark...

... Religion seems to bridge the gap without problem, rapidly spreading from one place to another in a matter of centuries, despite there being a cultural and language barrier. What makes religion so incredibly effective? Why is it that the concept has existed for literally as long as humanity has existed? What is the relationship between religion and culture? Are they two distinct entities, or are they two different manifestations of the same phenomenon? In order to answer these questions, first, a mutual platform must be developed and agreed upon, which will serve as the basis for development and proposal of arguments. First and foremost, this paper is a rational inquiry about the nature of religion, and as such this paper will establish arguments and analyze religion through the lens of rationality and science. This is not a paper about causality. The arguments developed here are built on the foundations of Objectivism, scientific realism, empirical analysis and strict adherence to logic. Furthermore, religion has to be rigorously defined. Such a definition, however, is difficult to establish. Religion, as stated above, is a global phenomenon that is as old, even older still, than written history. And so establishing a general definition for a phenomenon that has such a wide range of variety is challenging. Nonetheless, henceforth, religion shall be defined as any ideology that proposes supernatural causes as...

...Reform Judaism Tamara Rice Instructor: Eric Speir REL 212 March 11th, 2012 Background Over a month ago when I selected the topic of Judaism as the subject for my field research paper, I thought that the outcome would be cut and dry. I knew that Judaism served as the foundation for my own faith (Christianity) and that Jews honored the Sabbath from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. I also had in my mind the imagery of the Star of David, the Torah scroll and the male rabbi in the synagogue donning a prayer shawl over his shoulders and a kippah on the crown of his head. I believed that I had the general concepts of the Jewish faith in my mind; I just needed to witness a virtual worship service and fill in some of the minor details while gathering some additional intelligence on some misconceptions. So I decided to go over to the Ustream for “Shir Hadash” and witness a Community Shabbat (Sabbath) Service (Ustream, 2011). What I discovered watching the 2.5 hour Shabbat service followed by some additional research gave me a rude awakening. The impression of Judaism that I’ve carried with me up to this point is what is known as Orthodox Judaism. The Jews that I’ve witnessed in tight-knit communities in places such as Brooklyn, New York and Oak Park, Michigan were towns filled with Orthodox Jews. In addition to Orthodox Judaism, there is also Conservative Judaism. Conservative Judaism reverences traditional Jewish practices in America, but...

Too many of us go by a type of book to worship from or worship a divine being, but we follow the beliefs and customs that religion is based for. Define what Religion is Religion is a word that means many different things to every human being. Though the textbook stats that religion was originally from Western Civilization. When the word religion is broken down, the word “religio” define to mean “awe to the Gods” which comes from the Latin world. Most religions use a book or a type of scripture which is part of their everyday lives and that is the main tool to guide them to their beliefs and ritual’s in many religions such as Zen Buddhism also Tribal Religion they do not use any type of scriptural text but use what they call an oral religion in which it has been passed from one generation to the other. The textbook also stats that religion is a type of system that most human beings follow by worship or a God or gods, different types of prayers, rituals, and a code of morals. ...RUCHI Page 1 3/19/2011 American School Shooting’s Mass Shooting’s or multiple murders are people who have killed more then one victim. A mass murderer kills four or more people at one location during one continuous period of time, whether it is a few minutes or a period of days. An example of a mass murder would be Richard Speck, who killed eight student nurses in July of 1966 in a single night in their south Chicago Townhouse. Killers who murder several members of their family also fall under the mass murder category. Sociologists discover school shooters generally act on a perceived wrong done to them by others and view a climatic closure to the situation as the only way out. Frustrations accumulate into rage that motivates a spree. On August 1st 1966, Charles Whitman, a student at the University of Texas in Austin and a Marine, climbed twenty-seven stories up the university’s tower carrying a small arsenal. Upon reaching the top, he barricaded himself on the observation deck, after killing several people inside, and proceeded to randomly shoot people from there. According to Wikipedia, the sniper fire started shortly before noon and continued for several hours, until several police officers managed to gain entry to the observation deck, killing Mr. Whitman. It was later learned that Charles Whitman had complained about severe headaches and that he had a brain tumor, leading to much conjecture that this was the reason for his instability. Mr. Whitman, all in...

...spiritual but not religious. One in five state that they pray every day.” Knowing this information can prompt two different reactions. One could be that we allow this knowledge to intimidate the church and continue to cripple our efforts to reach these unreached people. The other option is to allow this information to act as a challenge to the church and the believers that congregate under the common thread of Jesus Christ and allow these numbers to propel the church to re-evaluate the evangelistic status quo; go back to the biblical basic of the early church and come up with a new game plan to win these souls for Christ. This paper will discuss how to mobilize the church to evangelize. It will define evangelism and look to the biblical basis for evangelism providing a new lifestyle of the modern day church. It will discuss the importance of intercessory prayer, and the vitality of a bold vision. It will look into the Pastors role in the churches effectiveness to...

...Human Development and Counseling Approach Paper PSY 430A – Counseling Theory Professor Kimberly Anderson Warner Pacific College March 3, 2013 Human Development and Counseling Approach Paper My Beliefs When I think about human development I think about life and the steps we take in our developmental process. From conception to birth, through the early years, middle school, high school and college – then life, a job, spouse, the house and a family – from there you have established a life, and you deal with the ups and downs of what life hands you. We spend our whole life developing. Regardless of what we think or believe we are constant learners and constantly developing into our individual selves. Along the road of life there will be ups, downs, successes and failures, but through it all as individuals we are developing into the person we are supposed to be. Human development is that whole process, from birth to death and all that is in between. Everything we do, learn, and achieve has to do with our development. The role of development theorists are significant in knowing what we know today and the research performed from centuries earlier have guided others and inspired others to expand and continue to evolve the foundation of developmental theory into what it is today. Theorists such as Freud, Piaget and Vygotsky were the forefathers of development theory and their work was significant. However they provided the framework for other theorists to expand...

...Philippines Robin Brown Rasmussen College Author Note This paper is being submitted on January 13, 2015, for Prof. Dorothy Moore, H440 International Healthcare. Philippines Thesis In the Philippines, delivery of healthcare to its citizens is a fragmented system with a dysfunctional health workforce which results in great disparity between healthcare for the rich and poor. In 2010, the government concentrated on specific programs to promote effective and sustainable healthcare, but with many people in isolated parts of the country, this turned out to be a challenge. The American health care system, according to television, radio and newspapers, is having issues with shortage of medical professionals, especially nurses and caregivers, in industrialized countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. This has caused a massive departure of certified health workers from the Philippines. The government is concerned that the health care system is going to collapse if the medical workers keep leaving. Since 1994, 100,000 medical workers have left the country (Castro, 2009). The economic uncertainty and the political instability in the Philippines have greatly affected the decisions of Filipino doctors to go abroad to find greener pastures. Medical graduates in the Philippines have been migrating to prosperous nations since the beginning of the 20th century but the increase in their numbers from recent years is very alarming. The current “migration” of Filipino...

Analyze current problems and issues in American Government by applying Historical perspectives: -History Repeats Itself +A new Communication medium paves the way to Electoral Victory- Meaning the internet and social media have revolutionized American politics. Campaign advertising is the use of an advertising campaign through the media to influence political debate and ultimately voters. Political advertising has changed drastically over the last several decades. Harry S. Truman was proud of his accomplishment of shaking approximately 500,000 hands but his accomplishment was soon pale compared to the next presidential election with the advent of television, war hero and presidential candidate D.W Eisenhower created commercials to get votes and so on and it different with different elections and different decades. +The Power of Incumbency- It is usually used in reference to elections where races can often be defined as being between an incumbent and non-incumbents. Incumbents have easier access to campaign finance and government resources that can be indirectly used to boost a campaign. Incumbency is any elected official who is already in office and seeking re-election. 2. Explain the Philosophical underpinnings of American Political System through...
