...Drinking Alcohol While Pregnant In the article, “Is Drinking Alcohol While Pregnant an Unnecessary Risk to Prenatal Development?”, I will be outlining and summary the two different viewpoints from Phyllida Brown and Julia Moskin. Brown concludes that total abstinence from drinking is the smart option during pregnancy and Moskin argues that women should be allowed to decide for themselves if an occasional alcoholic beverage is harmful. After summarizing their different perspectives, I will present who I believe to be most credible and I will give my own opinion. Brown argues that knowing that there is some chance of alcohol harming prenatal development means the only reasonable choice is complete abstinence. Brown acknowledges the fact that “not all babies born to alcoholic women have FAS”, she just deeply takes into consideration that “1 out of 500 babies are born with FAS”. Brown notes that some children with FASD have been exposed to as much alcohol before birth as those with FAS, but that’s because of genetics and the factor of when the alcohol was consumed during development. In conclusion, Brown strongly believes that implementing laws to ban drinking during pregnancy would only decrease the rates in which babies with FAS are born. Moskin argues that a pregnant women should reasonable be able to choose to have a drink during certain points of her pregnancy and that laws should not be implemented. A Moskin point out that even though a lot of research has been proven that...

Shortly after the shows aired it was said that girls were getting pregnant on purpose just to be on the new television show. The newly show for pregnant girls isn’t helping girls prevent pregnancy. But more of leading girls on to become pregnant just to be a star get their 15 minutes of fame. Is the show really coming off as educational and realistic or are the shows making the girls make bad decisions. It all started with Maci, Farrah, Amber and Catelynn on the first season of 16 and Pregnant. The show was made to be educational and prevent teen pregnancies, to show young girls and boys about the real struggles of being a teen parent, showing the real struggles of parenting. It went into great and deep detail of the everyday lives of the girls. The show started off as a good educational show but then lead into more drama than just teen pregnancy. Catelynn had more than just issues with dealing with her adoption...

...Teenage Pregnancy: Acceptance as Pop Culture Our society comprises of many gender niches and roles. Women are sisters, daughters, and most importantly mothers. Motherhood is one of the most cherished roles that a woman can take on. In the past, women were meant to be seen and not heard as their value depended on their ability to bear children and raise them thoughtfully. Even though that has changed and women are expected to gain an education and lead a career, motherhood can still be a main part of their life. However, motherhood does spring upon on some by surprise. Teenage pregnancy in the last few years have been on the rise and has become a problem for some to live up to that expectation of an education and career (Peck). In the past, teenage pregnancy was a taboo. However its discussion has become more widely accepted. Through analyzing the Candie’s Foundation ad in the October 2011 issue of Teen Vogue, it can be seen as an example of the shift in perception of teenage pregnancy in the United States. The Candie’s Foundation is a philanthropic branch from the clothing line Candie’s. The clothes from the Candie’s brand are meant to appeal to teenage girls who dress girly and traditionally feminine. Focusing on the same demographic, the foundation was founded with the goal to raise awareness about teenage pregnancy in 2001, according to their website. The print ads from their current campaign mainly feature female celebrities such as Fergie, Hilary Duff, Ciara, Hayden...

...mixed drinks have many adverse effects and are a dangerous cocktail. The mixed drink needs something done about it. When you ingest caffeine, it stimulates the body's fight or flight response, producing a surge of adrenaline. If our bodies are subjected to too much adrenaline, we can experience seizures, chest pain, heart palpitations and agitation – these are all signs of caffeine toxicity. The vast majority of these related to 'recreational' use of energy drinks, with affected 'recreational users' aged 15 to 21 years. Energy drinks have become enmeshed in the subculture of partying. The practice of mixing energy drinks with alcohol which is more widespread than generally recognized has been linked consistently to drinking high volumes of alcohol per drinking session and subsequent serious alcohol-related consequences such as sexual assault and driving while intoxicated....Research has demonstrated that individuals who combine energy drinks with alcohol underestimate their true level of impairment. Aside from the...

...retailer of prepared foods, prepared drinks and its operating performance is influenced by many of the same factors that affect traditional retail stores. For the most part, restobar has business models that are relatively easy to understand. Nonetheless, there are a number of unique factors to consider when making investment decisions regarding this large and segmented industry. Competition between restobars is intense, since dining and leisurely drinking options abound. And, while there are certainly dominant players in this industry (especially among fast-food purveyors and large fast- food chains that offers to drink and dine), no one company has the market cornered. Indeed, virtually every restobar location must compete not only against other publicly traded chains, but also with a wide array of small, local establishments with a touch of marketing strategies and advance advantages. Competitors include everything from advance technology lighting, romantic atmosphere and ambiences to boldly flavored drinks to fine- dining and drinking style. ...Why Milk is the Best Drink at Starbucks Imraan Lilani Georgetown University Starbucks is an international café serving an extremely wide variety of hot and cold drinks, making the choice of a drink challenging. It is asserted that the ‘Venti skinny French Vanilla latte’ is the best drink served at Starbucks. However, I believe that milk is a superior beverage to all other drinks, using a number of different criteria, which include, adaptability, nutritional content, and cost. In addition, there is the emotional connection people have to their childhood when drinking milk. This paper will provide well-reasoned arguments detailing these criteria, which will demonstrate conclusively why milk is a better drink than a ‘venti skinny French Vanilla Latte’ and the best drink at Starbucks. Milk is an adaptable beverage which can be enjoyed hot or cold. During the Winter months milk can be heated up and can be a hot, soothing drink on a cold day. Conversely, in the Summer, milk can be enjoyed as a cold, refreshing beverage. As a result, milk can be adapted depending on the season and enjoyed throughout the year. This contrasts with the ‘venti skinny French Vanilla Latte’ that is only meant to be consumed as a hot drink therefore would not be as desirable on a humid, hot Summers day. Furthermore, milk is adaptable in terms of its fat content as it is possible to choose from 3 types of milk at Starbucks - full fat, 2%, or skim- ...
