...Prenatal and Postpartum Scenario Vee Dubb PSY/280 August 12, 2012 Adams James Memo To: Pregnant and Postpartum Women From: Developmental Psychologist Subject: Prenatal and Postpartum Activities Date: November 8th, 2012 Most pregnant woman imagine how their developing fetus looks like, what the developing fetus is doing at a particular point, and aspire to deliver a healthy baby. Most important, many prenatal and postpartum women are eager to know what she can do to help deliver a healthy baby and how to care for the newborn. Here are some advices and activities offered to a prenatal, postpartum, and future development of a child includes healthy foods, consumption of adequate water, exercise, medication awareness, and emotions. One of the important factors that will positively affect the developing fetus is nutritional habit of the mother. Nutritional status with consumption of healthy food is the driving force behind attaining a healthy baby. A prenatal and postpartum woman would be advised to cultivate the habit of consuming healthy food because malnutrition in early state of pregnancy can affect the embryo’s ability to survive and poor nutrition in latter half of the pregnancy can affect the growth of the fetus. As noted in the text also that “prenatal care reduces the incidence of low birthweight, which is associated with poor nutrition, multiple births, and drug use” (Berger, 2010 p. 71). Examples of food incudes low fat milk, pasta, fruits, cereals, rice, and...

Byzantine Art was the name given to the style of architecture used in very early Middle Ages Art. This period was also known as the Dark Ages ( 410 AD - 1066 AD ). The advances of art in the Middle Ages was due to the changes in more liberal religious beliefs and the efforts and the pioneering art styles developed by the artists, sculptors and painters of the Medieval period of the Middle Ages. The Later Middle Ages saw the emergence of Gothic Art and the advances of art in the Middle Ages. During this period, artists broke away from the influences of the Byzantium and Romanesque art style. ...Prenatal and Postpartum Scenario As your psychologist you are a very important individual to me, not just my patient, so I have taken the time out to create this memorandum in order to address these following subjects: your pregnancy length of six months and suffering from Post-Partum Depression. First let us discuss some activities you will need to focus on during your pregnancy: Get all of your rest: Rest is one of the most important factors during pregnancy because of the consequences that can result from the lack of rest and sleep. Avoid exhausting exercise and get as much sleep as you can. By not sleeping you can affect the fetus’ development and possibly cause a miscarriage to take place. Get all your Nutrients: Make sure to eat well and healthy. Many soon to be mothers do not take into consideration their diets and how much of an impact it will have on your baby. The rights foods and increase the development of your fetus, as the wrong ones or lack of nutrients will danger your baby. Alcoholism’s Don’ts: You are strongly urged to avoid the consumption of alcohol, not only because it’s frowned upon by society, but it can cause major damage to your unborn child. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is the result of alcoholism during pregnancy. Your baby can be born with birth defects including abnormalities, halted growth, and retardation. Avoid Teratogens: Teratogens are considered to be “substances such as drugs and pollutants and conditions such as malnutrition...

...Annotated Bibliography: Women’s Rights Introduction: This paper looks at maternity leave in the U.S. and discusses both pros and cons to leave policies and the difficulties women have in the workplace as it relates to maternity leave. Maternity leave is a big issue in this country. Many political aspects to this issue are being dealt with and the hope is that women will benefit from the awareness of changing maternity leave policies throughout the U.S. Eight articles were reviewed and summarized in the annotated bibliographies below. These articles were found using the databases that were discussed. We chose these sources because they had to do with the idea of women’s rights involving maternity leave. The sources are put into three subheadings. The first subheading is The Family and Medical Leave Act, which talks about what rights women have concerning maternity leave. The second subheading is the Effects of Childbirth, which discusses the problems with childbirth. The third subheading is Changing the System, which talks about why the system should be changed and the benefits that come with changing it. Annotations: The Family and Medical Leave Act Kaufman, Gayle, Clare Lyonette, and Rosemary Crompton. "POST-BIRTH EMPLOYMENT LEAVE AMONG FATHERS IN BRITAIN AND THE UNITED STATES." ...“Rhesus (RH) Incompatibility Disease” Sharon C. Clatterbuck Ottawa University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Proseminar Class Dr. Richard Kimberly. November 9, 2004 All the technology of our medical institutions and doctors do no good unless each female who becomes pregnant takes advantage of the prenatal care that is offered to them. According to the article titled “Routine ABO and RH Typing: An Introduction”, Phillip Levine and R.E. Stetson were the first scientists to discover the rhesus blood groups in 1939. Soon after their amazing discovery, Karl Landsteiner and A.S. Weiner discovered the ABO blood typing system in the late 1940’s, which ultimately lead to discovery of the Rh differences. Several medical studies and journals have concluded that the father is the basis of all fetal blood typing. The problem arises when the father’s blood type is positive and the mother’s blood type is negative, thus causes a condition called Rhesus (RH) Incompatibility or the RH Incompatibility Disease. (Mark-Maris) Women who receive proper treatment and testing during their first prenatal visit and subsequent visits can avoid most complications in their pregnancy, including the Rhesus Incompatibility. John M Bowman of the Canadian Medical Association states “the condition was first described as a medical problem in pregnancies in 1609, during the birth of a set of twins by a French midwife. The first twin had a severe case of Rh Incompatibility...

...10-Minute Mindfulness, a book authored by S. J. Scott and Barrie Davenport. I chose this book for my assigned book review because after reading the first page, it had described my life exactly. The book begins with a description of a typical morning for what I believe many people can relate. For example, getting out of bed after hitting snooze on the alarm, followed by a morning routine of a quick shower. Next, getting dressed while your mind is running over what happened yesterday or perhaps what may happen today. Then, preparing coffee and grabbing a bite to eat for the road while you catch a couple of the morning news headlines. Finally, out the door and on your way to work with a frazzled mind. According to Scott & Davenport (2017), this scenario describes a type of unconscious living which occurs due to a constant cycle of reactivity, distraction, and stress. They explain many individuals are unable to enjoy the present due to technology’s ability to batter our mind with constant information. “Our cellphones, laptops, and tablets, have become weapons of mass distraction, pulling us further and further from the only place of real peace and happiness – the present moment” (Scott & Davenport, 2017, p. 10). Therefore, the authors believe the key to enjoying the present begins with daily practice of mindfulness. So, what is mindfulness? Mindfulness is to “become intentionally aware of the present moment while paying close attention to your feelings, thoughts, and sensations of the body”...

The children with higher levels tend to be more anxious compared to other children. They also have more fearful expressions and their amygdala was larger at age 6-9. (news week 2015) According to Hasanjanzadeh and Faramarzi, higher scores on the anxiety scale are showing pregnant women with a higher probability of cesarean and reduction in period of breastfeeding. Postnatal stress has been studied for years and years. The symptoms of maternal depression stress and anxiety are not. 13 percent of women experience depressive episodes during or within the first year of giving birth. The prenatal cycle is a critical time for neurodevelopment and vulnerability. Consumption of essential fatty acids resulted in lower birth weight and decrements in cognitive and motor functions. Exposure to pcbs and methylmercury cause neurocognitive deficits. Maternal stress could have neurotoxic effects on brain region related to mental illness. Pregnant women exposed to traumatic events, common and chronic life stresses, are linked to increased risk of children having autism, affective disorders, and reduced cognitive ability. High level of antenatal depression and anxiety are associated with poor emotional adjustment in young children. (impact of maternal stress 2018) Fetal heart rate can be associated with range of psychological states in mothers...

...KING’S THEORY OF GOAL ATTAINMENT EXEMPLIFIED FROM THE INTRAPARTUM NURSE’S PERSPECTIVE By Jacqueline L. Karlin The model of nurse-patient transaction from King’s Theory of Goal Attainment was employed to explore the impact of the nurse-patient transaction as it relates to primiparous patient satisfaction with the childbirth process. In this descriptive study, intrapartum nurses were interviewed regarding their perception of primiparous patient’s childbirth experience. The interviews were reflected upon to develop a better understanding of the impact of the nurse-patient transaction on achieving patient satisfaction with coping strategies. The findings revealed that although only one-half of the patients had participated in formal childbirth classes, effective nurse-patient transactions were successful in goal attainment of satisfaction with coping strategies in labor and delivery. ...Malnutrition in Bangladesh 1. Introduction: Malnutrition is globally the most important risk factor for illness and death, contributing to more than half of deaths in children worldwide. It is one of the most important underlying causes of child mortality in developing countries, particularly during the first 5 years of life; the major causes for this are poverty, world conflicts, lack of education, natural disasters and poor access to health care. Nearly one-third of children in the developing world are malnourished. The effects of changing environmental conditions in increasing malnutrition are multifactorial. Poor environmental conditions may increase insect and protozoal infections and also contribute to environmental deficiencies in micronutrients. Overpopulation, more commonly seen in developing countries, can reduce food production, leading to inadequate food intake or intake of foods of poor nutritional quality. Conversely, the effects of malnutrition on individuals can create and maintain poverty, which can further hamper economic and social development. Bangladesh being the eighth most populous country in the world, and one of the poorest a significant progress has been made in recent years in reducing the incidence of poverty and malnutrition, the fact remains that roughly half of its 15.5 million citizens live in deprivation, while roughly half of all children under 6 years show some evidence of chronic malnutrition. Poverty and malnutrition in Bangladesh...
