Hippies:

How & why did it start?

Between 1896 and 1908, a German youth movement arose as a countercultural reaction to the organized social and cultural clubs that centered around German folk music. Known as Der Wandervogel ("migratory bird"), the movement opposed the formality of traditional German clubs, instead emphasizing amateur music and singing, creative dress, and communal outings involving hiking and camping.[15] Inspired by the works of Friedrich Nietzsche, Goethe, Hermann Hesse, and Eduard Baltzer, Wandervogel attracted thousands of young Germans who rejected the rapid trend toward urbanization and yearned for the pagan, back-to-nature spiritual life of their ancestors.[16] During the first several decades of the 20th century, Germans settled around the United States, bringing the values of the Wandervogel with them. Some opened the first health food stores, and many moved to Southern California where they could practice an alternative lifestyle in a warm climate. Over time, young Americans adopted the beliefs and practices of the new immigrants. One group, called the "Nature Boys", took to the California desert and raised organic food, espousing a back-to-nature lifestyle like the Wandervogel.[17] Songwriter Eden Ahbez wrote a hit song called Nature Boy inspired by Robert Bootzin (Gypsy Boots), who helped popularize health-consciousness, yoga, and organic food in the United States

Music:

Hippies use music to express themselves emotionally, spiritually, and politically. Music can make a statement, it can give voice to a movement, even unite us. As hippies explore their inner world, music guides them along in their quest for meaning. Without drugs it can get you high. With drugs, well, let's just say, music can be a religious experience.

Ideology:
Timothy Miller described the hippie ethos as essentially a "religious movement" whose goal was to break the limitations of mainstream religious institutions.
Flower power was a slogan used by the American counterculture movement during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive resistance and non-violence ideology. It is rooted in the opposition movement to the Vietnam War.

The Hippie Movement

...How to make an interesting presentation without being boring? The most challenging and educating part of mine was the last presentation. I’ve learned a lot about my topic because I have researched a lot in our college website. The project required us to present everything that we have learned in this semester about the topic we had chosen in the beginning. My topic was the “Hippie Movement.” I briefly talked about their history and life style. I made slides with Power Point and in the slides, I included lots of pictures so that everyone would focus and understand the information clearly. The presentation went smoothly, at the end I asked questions to the class, and everyone answered them without hesitating. This project was very interesting to me because I have learned more about the hippies and I have learned how to use the digital applications, to make my presentation exciting....

Easy Rider Counter Culture

...At first, I felt a movie would not have the power to bring about revolutionary change to the way a culture thinks and acts. But. the more I thought about it and considered other examples, like The Beatles or Elvis Presley, the more I believed a movie has the capability to define certain aspects of culture. Though it is a single work, lasting only a few hours, the new idea can be reiterated through music, symbolism, clothing, actions and even subliminal messages. Easy Rider is an example of a counterculture in which “its norms and values are often imcompatible with or in direct opposition to the mainstreams” (Ferris and Stein 83). Drug usage was happening in reality, not just in the movie and it helped highlight concurrent events, such as...

My Beautiful Day

...summer sun. It's a major question that weighs heavier on our minds as we mature. "So, Michelle, what do you want to be when you grow up?" my kindergarten teacher asked genially, but for me, her smile was a farce. Why does she want to know? What's it to her? Suddenly, I saw my life flash before my eyes. I was an astronaut, a teacher, a race-car driver, a tattoo artist, a janitor. What would I be? I felt as though my days of playing in the sandbox and eating glue were over - I had to plan my future. But there, face to face with my teacher, I declared, "A giraffe!" My teacher stared at me for a long time; I still wonder what was going through her head. Maybe she thought I was on special medication or my parents were free-spirited hippies who taught me I could be whoever (or whatever) I wanted. Then she just smiled and turned back to the class. "Children, next Friday is 'Bring Your Kids to Work Day.' All of you will join one of your parents at his or her job and learn about what they do for a living. And on Monday, you'll share that by drawing a picture about your day! Won't that be exciting?" She clasped her hands and grinned at the rugrats sitting below her. Just then her eyes focused on a small jelly-covered hand that shot up into the air. "Can I go to the potty?" Apparently my class was not as excited as my teacher had hoped. A small light bulb flashed above my head, however, as an idea came to mind. I'll go to work with Daddy! I decided. That way I can grow...

When I left the not-for-profit sector and joined a Accenture, I did so with the very specific goal of returning with new and fine-tuned skills. As I sat in my New Joiner Orientation and learned about ADP, I knew that one day I would join Accenture Development Partnerships and once again work on projects that serve the greater good. I will channel the skills I have gained from my experience within a multi- national corporation, bring my non-for-profit sensibilities, expertise in development and fundraising to help advance sustainable solutions to global development challenges. Until joining Accenture, all of my adult work experience comes from the not-for-profit sector where I worked in very creative atmosphere within event management, fundraising and development.. ...Definition Globalisierung !!!!!!!!!! Sachtext: Auszüge aus Thomas L. Friedman, The World is Flat The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century is an international bestselling book by Thomas Friedman that analyzes globalization, primarily in the early 21st century. The title is a metaphor for viewing the world as a level playing field in terms of commerce, where all competitors have an equal opportunity. As the first edition cover illustration indicates, the title also alludes to the perceptual shift required for countries, companies and individuals to remain competitive in a global market where historical and geographical divisions are becoming increasingly irrelevant. Friedman himself is a strong advocate of these changes, calling himself a "free-trader" and a "compassionate flatist," and he criticizes societies that resist these changes. He emphasizes the inevitability of a rapid pace of change and the extent to which emerging abilities of individuals and developing countries are creating many pressures on businesses and individuals in the United States; he has special advice for Americans and for the developing world (but says almost nothing about Europe). Friedman's is a popular work based on much personal research, travel, conversation, and reflection. In his characteristic style, he combines in The World Is Flat conceptual analysis accessible to a broad public with personal anecdotes and opinions. Friedman defines ten...

...Introduction: In 1955 Steve Jobs was born in San Francisco, California and shortly after, his unwed biological parents put him up for adoption. Paul and Clara Jobs, a middle class couple who raised him in Santa Clara County, better known as Silicon Valley, adopted him. As a result, Steve Jobs grew up in a neighborhood where he was surrounded by engineers, innovation, and exposure to the cutting edge of various electronic advancements. As a young child Jobs began to express interest in electronics and technology.  After a brief stint in college and a few months in a hippy commune, he started his first job at a video game company called Atari. The chief engineer, Al Alcorn, hired him. Jobs became “one of the first fifty employees at Atari, working as a technician for $5 and hour. ‘In retrospect it was weird to hire a dropout from Reed [College],’ Alcorn recalled. ‘But I saw something in him. He was very intelligent, enthusiastic and excited about tech.’” (Isaacson Pg. 43) In 1976, the intelligent and motivated, Steve Jobs took the knowledge he had acquired at Atari and teamed up with his good friend Steve Wozniak and started Apple as a desktop computer company.
