If I were to be stuck on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere and I had to pick one book, one food item, and one famous person I would choose, carefully, to take the book called “Pretty Little Liars,” pasta alfredo with shrimp as my food item, and Misty May Treanor as my one famous person.
I would bring the book called “Pretty Little Liars” because this book would always keep me on my toes when I read and would never get old. The book is pretty long so it would take awhile to finish, which is a good thing. “Pretty Little Liars” is a very popular T.V. show series and book series. This book is about four teenage girls searching for her dead friend Ali. The catch to this series is that Ali isn’t really dead. While they are trying to find …show more content…

You now have graduated from the University of Iowa, most likely, and now becoming a pediatrician. Without knowing it, you probably explored and chose the right group of friends without being shy and being more social in college. You probably got a scholarship to play volleyball at Iowa and cherished everything about it. You got all straight A’s, I bet, and have a boyfriend that played football in college. You probably moved to a house, charming and colossal, in Charlotte, North Carolina. You found a job at the Charlotte Pediatric Clinic and have a passion for working there because you love to be around children as much as you can. Your husband, on the other hand, plays for the North Carolina Panthers football team. Your husband will ask to marry in the near future and you will start a family soon. You and your husband want three children that grow up to be healthy and joyful kids. You also have two Miniature Australian Shepherds that you and your whole family love to play with. Compassionate and affectionate, you are still the same generous person you were ten years ago with the same character traits, but more improved. I hope you are an overall better person that everybody wants to be or looks up to in the

...Savannah Wade Evaluation Essay February 16, 2014 Pretty Little Liars There are a lot of different television shows running on the air now a days. The one I have been absolutely hooked to is Pretty Little Liars, on ABC Family. This show is a confusing drama, suspense, and thriller type of show. A thriller/suspense show would most likely be a type of show that is keeping you at the edge of your seat the entire time. Deviance in Our Society

...Now a days we hear of many events that are taking place all over the world that involve stealing, abusing children and drunk driving. All of these events are categorized as criminal deviance. One of the events that I consider to be occurring a lot, especially on popular television shows is stalking underaged kids and abusing them. Pretty Little Liars is a popular television show that many teenagers watch. It's about a group of 5 girl best friends that always hid secrets from one another until on of them was killed and many secrets began to be revealed. After Allison's death the group of girls starting receiving messages form s person referred to as "A". These messages were sometimes threats and other times just gossip about someone whom they cared about. "The people of a community spend most of their lives in close contact with one another, sharing a common sphere of existence which makes them feel that they belong to a special "kind" and live in a special "place" (Heiner 8). In Pretty Little Liars the girls manage to keep "A" a secret for more than a year, I feel that this can be considered deviance because these girl did not say anything about what was going on, and their families did not realize that people were breaking into their houses. The group of girls were literally being harassed, "A" would sneak into their house, threatened to kill them and even harm their families. If I were in their situation the first thing I would do would be contacting the authorities...

Hidden Intellectualism Gerald Graff Summary

...book report. I had not had a book report assigned to me in several years, since middle school, and not a single person in my class was looking forward to it. However, we got to pick the book we wanted to read, giving us some creative freedom. It was then a trek for me to choose a novel within the page requirements that was not too childish. While I enjoy things within the mystery genre, I do not particularly enjoy reading unless it is a page turner and it is something I am drawn to. My second thought was a book within the realm of the Pretty Little Liars series, continuing where I left off in my sophomore year, but I figured it might not be mature enough, and I wanted something different. When researching, I same across another book by Sara Shepard, who wrote the Pretty Little Liars novels, called The Perfectionists. After reading the synopsis, I chose to read it, and from start to finish, it was a great book. As I am a fan of Pretty Little Liars, particularly the series but also the novels, it was almost impossible I would not enjoy a similar work from the same writer. Because I had the opportunity to write about the novel I greatly enjoyed, writing over 10 pages about it came with ease, and I did not dread it as much as the next person in my class may have. In conclusion, Graff’s article was easy for nearly any student (or anyone who has been a student at some point) to relate to, and I very much connected with what he had to say. I saw myself in his shoes when I was younger...

Interpersonal Deception Theory

...theory suggests that the truth will almost always come out, due to the belief that there are always signs that the sender gives off, which allow the receiver to know that he or she is being lied to. The theory ends with the ‘truth bias’, the belief that people who know and like each other will be less likely to have any doubts on whether they are being told the truth or not, because of the “trust” that has been built. I think this theory is accurate for the most part, and I say “most part” because I know that there are some deceivers out there who have mastered the craft of lying and don’t get caught. In my opinion I thought that there were three main components. The first is the ‘manipulative language’, which is the language and look of liars. I agree with this part of the theory, because when I lie to someone’s face I make sure to...

...exact. I have no preconceptions. While "Sylvia" might sound a little bit like silver, we're pretty sure from this first-person declaration that Plath isn't the speaker in this poem. Instead, we have to think back to the title: what is silver and exact? Well, a mirror! We know mirrors don't talk – but that just makes us more curious about what this mirror is going to say. We know from looking at them that mirrors are silver and give an exact reflection of what is in front of them. The second part of the line is not so simple. This mirror is telling us it has no preconceptions. The mirror doesn't change what it shows you based on it's understanding of who you are, or whether you're having a bad day or a good day – it just shows what it sees. So, while this mirror may be personified in the poem, it doesn't, like most people, let what it has seen before affect what it does in the present. Line 2 Whatever I see, I swallow immediately. Now the personification becomes a little weirder. We can imagine a person who is exact, who has no preconceptions, but a person who swallows everything he sees – now that's a stretch. To figure out this line, it helps to think of what mirrors do to everything they see – they reflect it. Swallowing everything, then, is a metaphor for reflecting everything. The substitution of "swallowing" for "reflecting" makes this mirror seem human. It appears hungry to us, and a little unforgiving and scary. We certainly don't want to be swallowed by...

Argumentative Essay

...Argumentative Essay Should we always tell the truth? Do you always tell the truth or lies? You are not likely to reply immediately because this question is very extreme. While we live, we cannot always tell the truth, and we also cannot always tell lies. May be, it will depend on the situation that you encountered. There are innumerable reasons why most people tell lies to others. Usually, we tell lies to hide own fault or show off ourselves. There are a little bit different lies, of course, these are white lies. White lies are also lies, but these can be understood by people because it does not have ill will. Except white lies, we should try to tell the truth. It is difficult, but it is important for us to be truthful with other people because by being honest, we can keep the relationship between people with faith, we show what is morally right, and we do not become a liar. Firstly, we can keep the relationship between people with faith by telling the truth. It means that there is trust between people to keep the relationship each other. Because of telling lies, however, they can loss mutual trust, so they cannot believe each other anymore. For example, when I was 14 years old, I made a friend who was very funny and active in middle school. We were best friend each other at that time. My thought and her thought were same, but the more I knew her deeply, the more I was disappointed. She usually told lies to me every day, so I was losing some trust about her gradually...

Underage Drinking: A Research Paper

...The Vampire Diaries, South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, Arrow, Breaking Bad, Awkward, and Pretty Little Liars are all examples of television shows that depict underage drinking. Superbad, Neighbors, Scream, and Scary Movie are a few examples of movies that show a predominate amount of drinking of alcohol by teenagers. These movies and programs show attractive, young, popular kids drinking alcohol. Is this the example that modern kids try to follow? Scenes in movies and on television depicting drinking can greatly influence the drinking habits of teenagers (Preston, 2015). Many works of research were conceived, focusing on the connection between drinking scenes in movies and on television, and teenage drinking (Preston, 2015). Researchers...

Box Full Perfection

...Topic: Are sitcoms and TV shows a bad influence for teenagers? Box Full of Perfection Ah, TV shows –– they are just so damn corrupted. I mean look at us, all we do is compare ourselves to the characters of the sitcoms that we watch on TV and most of the time we worship their so call “fabulous” life. And how is the important again? Exactly, it’s not. Staring at a "stupid box" with moving pictures that shows “perfect looking” people, is not how teenagers suppose to waste their time. Oh, god we are so corrupted. Just the other day, one of my friends was complaining, over the fact that she is not pretty or skinny like Hanna (a character) from the sitcom Pretty Little Liars. “Apparently”, Hanna has beautiful shiny blond hair, has smooth glowing skin, also, she is very very slim ––– Seriously. Sounds like a Barbie doll to me. Not to mention, it’s called “Photoshop”, where any ordinary person can be turned into a beautiful swan from an ugly duckling. TV channels like MTV and CW, they have all changing drastically over the years. Most of my friends waste their time watching shows like Teen Wolf, Jersey Shore, Sweet 16, ANTM, Degressi and various types of shows. Funny thing is that, all these shows have one thing in common, and that is “physical perfection”–––– Seriously. How’s that even entertaining? I thought entertaining was about laughing at hilarious shows and crying when a sad sitcom comes on. How is staring at plastic faced actors even funny. Yeah sure, they...

Rhetorical Analysis Friederer

...Riederer uses humor to humanize the narrator. It is not uncommon for people to cope with horrible accidents by joking about it. In fact, just the third sentence in, the narrator gives the reader a hint of humor immediately after the bus ran her over, “It is easy to be calm because I cannot really have been run over by a bus” (Riederer 2). The reader then sympathizes with the narrator because of all the ways to get hurt, being run over by a bus is seen as pretty funny and a little pathetic. It’s understandable that the narrator would also think that her situation is unfortunate, but still funny. When the narrator is being treated in the ER, she’s still in an incredible amount of pain, “…a beady-eyed nurse says that she put morphine into the...

Evaluating Women In Cosmopolitan Advertising

...us with our skin and our hair. I do feel like the ads in Cosmopolitan primarily use very thin and attractive women. None of the models in the ads look like “regular” people. I feel as if this gives women the perception that if they use the product being advertised they can look that “perfect” too. Advertisements in Cosmopolitan featured a variety of ethnicities but not a variety of ages. - L’OREAL used Jennifer Lopez in an ad for shampoo and conditioner - Maybelline used Herieth Paul in a makeup ad. (Herieth is one of their spokes models and is African American) - St. Ives used a pale redhead with freckles in their ad for their apricot scrub - A different Maybelline ad featured Adriana Lima - Biore featured Shay Mitchell off of Pretty Little Liars One ad that I found particularly interesting in Cosmo was for Ponds cream cleanser and makeup wipes. They used an oriental woman and half of her face was geisha makeup and the other half was “no makeup” and the words read “removes even the toughest makeup for soft and smooth skin. Overall, the ads in Cosmopolitan were upbeat, colorful, and aimed at empowering women. In InStyle the ads were still mainly targeting women, but they looked very different. The ads were less bright, the models were more fierce and less “happy” looking. Most of the ads in InStyle are for high end designers and brands, unlike the ads in Cosmopolitan that are for brands that the general public purchases. Some of the brands advertised in InStyle include: Chanel...
