This is to counter the plenary provisions of Article 5 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, 1966 and its protocol in 1989 where the State parties believed that abolition of death penalty should be in the scale of enhancement of human dignity and progressive development of human rights and recalling Article 3 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted on 10th December, 1948 as well as Article 21 of our Constitution.1 It can be judicially said “I don’t punish you for killing the man but so that the other cannot be killed.” That is, the chief aim of capital punishment is to make deterrent to others for same crime . Now this concept is having a new direction. The Supreme Court and High Courts in India interpret the cases before giving the death sentence as rarest of rare cases. The Court moves its eye also for other aspects of society. He completed his elementary and high school in Mashad. In his years at the Teacher's Training College, he came into contact with youth who were from the lower economic strata of the society and tasted the poverty and hardship that existed. At the age of eighteen, he started as a teacher and ever since had been a student as well as a teacher. After graduating from college in 1960, on a scholarship he pursued graduate studies in France. Dr. Shariati, an honor student, received his doctorate in sociology in 1964. When he returned to Iran he was arrested at the border and imprisoned on the pretext that he had participated in political activities while studying in France. Released in 1965, he began teaching again at Mashad University. As a Muslim sociologist, he sought to explain the problems of Muslim societies in the light of Islamic principles - explaining them and discussing them with his students. The “Some things to think about” sections are by George and were geared for the staff in their context. In this book, Maxwell deals with an important topic: not everyone is called to be the top leader in an organisation, and so we need to learn to lead from "the middle". The idea of 360-Degree Leadership is that we should be able to "lead up", influencing our leaders, "lead across", influencing our peers, and "lead down", influencing those lower down the organisational hierarchy. As usual, Maxwell gets his points across with a series of fairly brief, pithy chapters dealing with various practical issues. He introduces the first section, which deals with myths about leadership, by reflecting on the sorts of people we instinctively think of when we think of "a leader": William Wallace, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, etc. He points out that this is misleading as "99% of all leadership occurs not from the top but from the middle of an organization". Taking this further, all of us can lead effectively, even if we're not the Vice Chancellor or the CEO.
