Technological Institute of the Philippines, Manila Overview of Israel’s Educational System The wellbeing of the youth is being taken as a serious national issue in Israel and they have done concrete actions about it. First of all, Israel has a very good educational structure and system. Education is free and compulsory from 1st to 12th grade. There is no private school in Israel because almost all of the school is supported by the state. It is very interesting to note that there is no student who repeats a term because of difficulty coping with lessons. They have a good team who are composed of a school counsellor, a home room teacher and a subject teacher who ensures that a student is getting the attention and the help that he/she needs to finish the term or the school grade where they belong. The Baggrut or the Matriculation examination is a very systematic way of assessing a student’s readiness to land on a decent job or go to college after serving the army. It is a must for all students to enter the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). After finishing the 12th grade (senior high school) boys have to serve in the army for three years while the girls should serve for two years. In order for the church to grow, the adult generations of the church needs to insure the faith by training children and young adults “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord”(Ephesians 6:4). When the youth of the church are not taught the importance of a vibrant and active relationship with God, then the church will see its ranks become thin and aged. With age comes wisdom and experience, but with youth comes energy and determination. In order for the church to be effective it must see youth ministry as a vital part of the body. Since the church needs youth ministry, it is important that the youth ministry itself has a vision and structure to provide organization to reach goals and growth. I believe that youth ministry needs to focus on three key goals or values in order to be effective in the local church. These values are to connect, grow, and serve. These three values will provide structure and vision to ensure a healthy youth ministry. In my life, I consider Pastor Eman as a transformational leader. His full name is Emmanuel Hernandez. I came to know Pastor Eman three years ago in Bakersfield, California, and ever since I met him I fell in love the way that he works with youth and manages to take youth out of their comfort zone in order to use their talents to their full extent.
