...INSURANCE ADVISORS EFFECTIVENESS FOR PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INSURER: A DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY Krishan Kumar Pandey*Manisha Pandey** Manish Kerwar***Ashutosh Khare**** Dharmendra Singh***** Abstract : Few years back insurance was an arcane word for all of us. Insurance is no longer an unexciting business and the insurance advisor an apologetic salesman. New entries have actually changed the rules of the game in the insurance industry. One such change that has made a huge positive impact in the minds of Indian consumers is the product innovation by the insurance companies. New products are being launched; new distribution channels opened and thousands of sales advisers and managers are being recruited every month. This rapid change is demanding new regulations, new methods of management, new methods of operation and ofcourse considerable development in knowledge, attitude and skills of the workforce. Such times demand business/ output focused people who think widely, are confident about taking risks and decisions and prioritise their own and others’ actions to achieve the business need. Without these attributes the growth pattern that has begun will not be sustained. So are these attributes being developed in people? People know what they should do but they do not necessarily know how to do it. This study is well ahead to evaluate the effectiveness of Insurance Advisors. *, * * Faculty in Prestige Institute of Management, Gwalior * * * , * * * * , * * * * * Alumni, Prestige Institute...

...ought to be, however, it also includes an affirmative dimension consisting of things we should do — keep promises, judge others fairly, treat people with respect, kindness and compassion. Sources of Moral Obligation Moral obligations can arise from three sources. The first, strangely enough, is law. 1. Law-Based Moral Obligations. Good citizens have a moral as well as a legal obligation to abide by laws; it is part of the assumed social contract of a civilized society. If a law is unjust, however, (such as those that mandated ethnic and religious persecution during the Nazi regime and those that discriminated against a person on the basis of race in South Africa and elsewhere) there may be a moral obligation to disobey it under the specific and demanding doctrine of civil disobedience. Many, but by no means all, of these moral standards of conduct are so fundamental to healthy social relations that they have been codified into laws. For example, most aspects of the moral duty to not endanger or harm others are embraced in criminal and civil laws prohibiting homicide, assaults, drunk driving, and other dangerous behavior. Similarly, the ethical duty to be honest is enforceable by laws forbidding perjury, robbery, forgery, fraud, and defamation among others. Nevertheless, in struggling to be an ethical person we need to remember that many forms of dishonesty remain solely within the moral domain....

...P A R T I Discovering Momentum 1 1 The Power of Momentum Where’s the Impetus? Momentum. Most businesses get it at some point: the impression that everything they undertake succeeds effortlessly, as if they’re being carried along by a tailwind that increases their efficiency and propels them on to exceptional growth.1 Some hold on to it. Most don’t. Slowly, imperceptibly, the tailwind turns around and the momentum disappears, without anyone quite realizing what has happened. The company is still growing, but not as strongly as before, not as efficiently. Everyone’s maxing out, but it seems like there’s molasses in the works. Sound familiar? Sooner or later, it hits you in the face. Imagine you are meeting up with a senior analyst whose opinion counts with some of your company’s biggest investors. You think you’re on safe ground—after all, your company is doing better than the competition. But the analyst is in full gimlet-eyed, illusion-killing mode. “That’s nothing to crow about,” she says. “Yeah, you’ve got reasonable growth, but it’s nothing exceptional. You’re a safe bet, nothing more. Okay, I might tell my mom to buy, but 3 The Momentum Effect then she’s happy with inflation plus one. The way we see it, you’re really grinding it out. We reckon the strain’s getting harder, too. There’s no impetus—no momentum.” Words like that can really take the gloss off a day. The next time you gather your team, you don’t congratulate them on beating their targets—you...
