...Qualities of an Epic Story in The Notebook What is an epic? An epic, by definition, is the telling of an epic hero’s story through the vast journey and sacrifices he makes. The Notebook would be considered an epic for many reasons. Some may disagree and say it’s just a love story that contains no characteristics, and no proof of being an epic. But in this paper the characteristics of an epic will be explored through facts and examples from the text and from today’s present life and culture. The epic hero, Noah Hamilton in Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook states, “I am no one special, just a common man with common thoughts. I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me. And my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect, I've succeeded as gloriously as anyone who ever lived (The Notebook).” Some examples of the characteristics in The Notebook that proves this is an epic would include vast settings, the story begins in medias res, the characters have epic digressions and that the hero embodies the values of the culture. Because of how the story starts, media res would be considered the first characteristic of an epic that can be noticed in The Notebook. Our story begins at a nursing home in the south where Allie is being looked after due to her dementia. The nurse is in her room, attempting to have Allie come out and go outside for a little while until a mysterious man shows up. Now, we don’t know who this man is that has just entered her room, and we’re not...

...ONE NIGHT @ THE CALL CENTER —CHETAN BHAGAT [Typeset by: Arun K Gupta] This is someway my story. A great fun, inspirational One! Before you begin this book, I have a small request. Right here, note down three things. Write down something that i) you fear, ii) makes you angry and iii) you don’t like about yourself. Be honest, and write something that is meaningful to you. Do not think too much about why I am asking you to do this. Just do it. One thing I fear: __________________________________ One thing that makes me angry: __________________________________ One thing I do not like about myself: __________________________________ Okay, now forget about this exercise and enjoy the story. Have you done it? If not, please do. It will enrich your experience of reading this book. If yes, thanks Sorry for doubting you. Please forget about the exercise, my doubting you and enjoy the story. _____________ The night train ride from Kanpur to Delhi was the most memorable journey of my life. For one, it gave me my second book. And two, it is not every day you sit in an empty compartment and a young, pretty girl walks in. Yes, you see it in the movies, you hear about it from friend’s friend but it never happens to you. When I was younger, I used to look at the reservation chart stuck outside my train bogie to check out all the female passengers near my seat (F-17 to F-25)is what I’d look for most). Yet, it never happened. In most cases I shard my compartment with talkative aunties,...

...PRODUCT PLACEMENT IN FILMS 3 2 1 “Aila, bournvita nahi hai? Chusti, sfurti aur shakti ke liye bournvita hona bohot zaruri hai..” Doesn’t the dialogue sound familiar? All those who have seen the famous movie Koi Mil Gaya, starring Hrithik Roshan, won’t feel hard recalling the endorsement of Cadbury’s product Bournvita. And the same product was endorsed again in its sequel Krrish (as shown in pic#1). Product Placement is basically a promotional tactic used by marketers in which characters in a fictional play, movie, television series or book use a real commercial product. Typically the product or its logo is shown or favorable qualities of the product are mentioned. Considering the trend of product placement in Bollywood movies, it was first visible way back in 1955 in Raj Kapoor movie named Shree 420 (as shown in pic#4) where the protagonist enters Mumbai for the first time, a large Coca-cola banner was visible right above his head. Although the trend continued then in latter movies namely An Evening In Paris (1967) where again Coca-cola was carried by the hero & heroine of the movie where ever they went exploring the city of Paris, & in Bobby (1975), Rajdoot motorcycle was featured by Rishi Kapoor. In 1992, an Aamir Khan starred film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander promoted the use of geared bicycles (as shown in pic#3). Similarly in Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997) starring Shahrukh Khan, number of brands were promoted like Pepsi, Levis & Killer jeans. However it was Coca-cola’s...

First determine if hacking into a website is ever justifiable, applying your theory to a real-world case in which someone hacked into a system, including the name of the company and details. We will create a corporate ethics statement for a computer security firm that would allow or even encourage activities like hacking. Secondly discuss if it is important for organizations like Gawker Media to be socially responsible; determine what factors CEOs should consider when responding to a security breach. ...economic activity that is conducted via electronic medium. M-commerce is a subset of E-commerce. Consumers can choose different devices to shop online. The devices are personal computers, laptops, mobile phones, tablets etc. There is a huge increase in number of mobile phones in India and this is expected to be leveraged by the E-commerce industry. There are more than 286 million debit cards in India and additional security (via security codes) enhances the scope of Ecommerce (Deshmukh, Sujata, & Deshmukh, Prashant, & Thampi, G. T 2013). Initial consumers prefer to shop those goods which don’t have touch and feel factor, but this trend is gradually changing. Customer satisfaction depends on information quality and service quality (Joshi, Priyanka 2015). There are some challenges in m-commerce. Small screens and sparse internet connectivity are some of them .One set of researcher looks at how M Commerce should be adopted. There are articles like "Effective optimization of Web Sites for Mobile access" which talks about technical problems that occurred while introducing E Commerce website over mobile phone screen. (Marci Troutman, Steve Timpson, 2008). Further researchers talked about who are the first adopters of E Commerce mobile applications and their patterns. Regression analysis has demonstrated ...
