I am not the kind of person to allow others to do my work, I’ve always been independent. However, with the launch of my service project, it was a challenge to change my way of thinking and become a team player. In my junior year, I began the Pro Pet Project, a school-wide donation drive; our objective was essentially to collect donations and give them to our local animal shelter. For a project this big I needed people to help out. Everyone pitched in ideas that would help the project be a bigger success, but I wanted to be part of every aspect. For instance, my friend was in charge of creating posters, I knew she a great artist but I wanted to make sure that everything would be perfect.So I would constantly ask, and I’d ask the other memebers how things were going and what I could help them with. By the end I realized that I was overwhelmed with so much work that it was impossible to finish it all. That was when I decided that I needed to allow the group members take charge for themselves; they were all very much invested in the project that I came to the conclusion that they would be fine on their own. …show more content…
This is an experience that I will not forget. I learned the importance of being a team player. I’ve also seen the strong influence of that event. To this day when I need to participate in group projects I ensure myself that I am able to work with them and that there is good communication among us. There has been a remarkable effect in my academic achievement. I’ve notice that this helps explore other ideas and to understand how people may think differently than me. Problem Statement: Alan Blake and Richard Crockett founded Yorktown Technologies in November 2001. The company was formed around the concept of producing ornamental fish that had glowed fluorescence color throughout their bodies. Dr. Pruchansky had previously developed the genetic modification that was needed to produce these fluorescent fish.
