...Life Style Inventory: My Self-Description Personal Thinking Style Primary and Back up thinking Style: As per the LSI results my Primary thinking style is “Approval” (98 percentile) and back up style is “Humanistic –Encouraging” (93 percentile). But I don’t think I am absolutely following these styles for all the situations. There are several instances in my life where my thinking patterns are varied. I think I have adopted this thinking style from my parents and cultural roots. Hindu culture always preaches self-less ness and humanity. I have almost all the characteristics of Affiliative and Humanistic-Encouraging styles like always cooperative, friendly, helpful, pleasant, diplomatic, tactful, sees best in others, sincere, warm, open, relaxed, at ease with people, liked by others, thinks people more important than things, good at interpersonal relations, likes to share feelings and thoughts, tries to help others, genuine concern for people, accept changes easily, likes to include others in activities, humanistic, considerate, popular leader in some areas like college, NGO activities, good listener, enjoying settling disputes, respects confidences etc. But all the characteristics are not equally applicable for both work and personal life. For example I was a well know leader at college, community activities at neighborhood and organizing NGO activities but not a good leader at work consistently. My wife will contradict with my team members if I say I am cooperative and...

...0033-2909/07/$12.00 DOI: 10.1037/0033-2909.133.1.65 The Nature of Procrastination: A Meta-Analytic and Theoretical Review of Quintessential Self-Regulatory Failure Piers Steel University of Calgary Procrastination is a prevalent and pernicious form of self-regulatory failure that is not entirely understood. Hence, the relevant conceptual, theoretical, and empirical work is reviewed, drawing upon correlational, experimental, and qualitative findings. A meta-analysis of procrastination’s possible causes and effects, based on 691 correlations, reveals that neuroticism, rebelliousness, and sensation seeking show only a weak connection. Strong and consistent predictors of procrastination were task aversiveness, task delay, selfefficacy, and impulsiveness, as well as conscientiousness and its facets of self-control, distractibility, organization, and achievement motivation. These effects prove consistent with temporal motivation theory, an integrative hybrid of expectancy theory and hyperbolic discounting. Continued research into procrastination should not be delayed, especially because its prevalence appears to be growing. Keywords: procrastination, irrational delay, pathological decision making, meta-analysis Procrastination is extremely prevalent. Although virtually all of us have at least dallied with dallying, some have made it a way of life. Estimates indicate that 80%–95% of college students engage in procrastination (Ellis & Knaus, 1977; O’Brien, 2002), approximately 75% consider...

...Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Education plays a vital role in our lives. It is important like our basic needs – food, clothes, shelter. It is through education where we can put our potentials in maximum use. It is a precious tool in our lives. It is our key to success. It opens doors of opportunities and serves as our guide to achieving our dreams. It is a preparation for our future roles. Without education, we cannot develop our skills and talents that will help us become successful in our respective careers. It is the only way where we can achieve our goals. According to Manali Oak, “Education gives us knowledge of the world around us. It develops us in a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life. People debate over the subject whether education is the only thing that gives knowledge. Some say, education is the process of gaining information about the surrounding world while knowledge is something very different. They are right. But then, information cannot be converted into knowledge without the catalyst called education.” Information is everywhere. But it’s not enough that we just gain information. We need education for us to be able to understand and interpret it. Through education, we develop proper attitudes, values and behavior towards other people. We learn how to interact using good manners and appropriate conduct with the people around us. “The words ‘cultivate’ and ‘civilize’...

... ® The Power of Habit Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business THE SUMMARY IN BRIEF In The Power of Habit, Charles Duhigg, award-winning business reporter for The New York Times, takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. By distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives, Duhigg brings to light a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential for transformation. Along the way, we learn why some people and companies struggle to change, despite years of trying, while others seem to remake themselves overnight. We visit laboratories where neuroscientists explore how habits work and where they reside in our brains. We discover how the right habits were crucial to the successful promotion of Pepsodent; to Tony Dungy who led his team to a Super Bowl win by changing one step in his players’ habit loop; and to Alcoa when it turned itself around by changing just one routine within the organization. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, raising exceptional children, becoming more productive, building revolutionary companies and social movements, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. By harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities and our lives. by Charles Duhigg CONTENTS Part 1: The Habits of Individuals Page 2 The Habit Loop Page 2 The...

...two of the many phrases used to describe the Philippine situation today. Questions such as "what's wrong, what's right with the Filipino?" have set many Filipino minds upon some deep and not-so-deep soul-searching and brainstorming. Is American democracy fit for the Philippines? Is Catholicism brought by Spain partly responsible for the failure of the country to become another economic "tiger" of Asia? The questions have not been answered with finality, although short-term and medium-term responses have been proposed and realized. Many seem to agree, however, that the root of the crisis facing the Filipinos in the past two or three decades is moral in nature. This calls for a long process of social transformation, of value recovery, formation, or transformation as the case may be. Education plays a crucial part in this process, and indeed teachers in both the private and public sectors , since the People Power Revolution of 1986, have responded to this call by introducing reforms in curriculum, content, style, and even mission statements. Such groups and institutions as The Association of Philippine Colleges of Arts and Sciences (APCAS), The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), not to mention The Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), have produced various programs for value education. The Senate passed a resolution, calling for a task force that would inquire into the "strengths and weaknesses of the Filipino with a view to solving the social...
