Discuss this product in terms of its repositioned target market demographics using U.S. Census Data.

Cell phones and other smart devices have taken over the world. I will consider electronic pay phones as a requirement. Not all people are capable of affording cell phones these days as they are overpriced. Some cell phones can cost more than a person’s monthly car payment at the purchase of them. On the exterior of that a lot of people still cannot operate them successfully.

Here in the U.S. there are about sixteen percent of adults over the age of sixty-two according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Seeing how innovative this country is a person this age and over will have a fairly hard time adjusting to the new smart phones that change with each season. Most of them still cannot operate desktop computer. So for them which makes sense, a pay phone or a smart phone? I’m definitely leaning towards the pay phone.

Why you ask? A pay phone is easily seen, even without corrective lenses. The buttons are standard and you can still actually push them. Besides that it is very cheap. Most elderly people don’t talk much so it wouldn’t make sense to offer them a wasted package deal which may be of no quality use and in which they can barely afford.

Determine the types of research needed to reposition this product or service.

Repositioning the pay phones will require widespread research. I will have to establish locations to place them in such as retirement homes, schools, hospitals and parking garages. I will also position them in low and fixed income communities as these are places where they may be used most. I don’t think it will be wise to have them outside unless the area remains well lit at all times or on some deserted

Segmentation, targeting, and positioning are important when identifying the specific target market that you will supply in order to sustain growth. The product that I have in mind to reposition is the MP3 player device. Apple already has MP3 players that have been very successful due to the increase in technology. Their products have ranged from 60 GB color screen iPods to the lower gig shuffle without a screen.
