I must say when I was told of Advocacy Days I really had no clue what I was in for. I was so excited and the event surpassed my expectations and I was in awe. For this paper I will discuss my professional experience at Advocacy days and the itinerary we had. Then I will discuss my insights to what I observed and what it entailed. I will then describe the legislative process that I was able to see. Last I will use sources to tell you about the controversial issue of minimum wage while we were there. I highly recommend Advocacy Days with the Idaho Chapter of the NASW to anyone looking to get into the social work profession. A great learning experience. My professional experience during these two days was a lot to absorb. The first day …show more content…
We were even sent literature on it before we went. The literature they supplied was from the Idaho department of labor and transportation. According, to what was discussed at advocacy days wages and minimum wage are a tremendous issue. They are proposing an increase to $9.75 an hour to help get people out of poverty. This however is only a living wage it is what is needed to sustain life in Idaho. Such as home, power, water, sewage, garbage, groceries and none of this includes extras. This list is just the basic necessities to sustain life. “Economic justice is one of the great human rights issues of our time, and one that is being faced by a disproportionate number of people” (Idaho Department of Labor & Transportation, 2015). The yearly budget of an average four family household is $37,057.56 and the average income for this size of family is only$15.080.00. in order to meet basic living a family this size requires at least $24,208 a year or $11.64 per hour (Idaho Department of Labor & Transportation, 2015). There is approximately 15% of Idahoans that live below the poverty line and 29% that are homeless. On the business side of this there are three positive factors I did not think would be said by businesses. One is that they think it would increase consumer purchasing power, another is help the economy, and the last is it would lower the turnover rate of employees (Idaho Department of Labor & Transportation, 2015). “In 2005, the average annual wage in Rocky Mountain states—Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming—was about $4,000 below the U.S. average” (Cooke & Kulandaisany, 2010). Out of the rocky mountain region Idaho has a fast growing population and employment, low wages, small college educated labor force, and a small amount of high skilled jobs (Cooke & Kulandaisany, 2010). Idaho has a high amount of wage inequality in the U.S. (Cooke & Kulandaisany,

Applied Behaviour Analysis

...use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with students who have Autism. Aims The aim of my project was to gain knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis and its effectiveness in working with children with Autism. My focus questions ask • What are the key principles underlying Applied Behaviour Analysis and how and why it benefits children who are autistic? • What is involved in setting up an Applied Behaviour Analysis program in the classroom environment? Both focus questions have helped me to investigate ABA, implement strategies that ABA employ and reflect on the program as a whole. I became part of a withdrawal program established for the purpose of intensive early intervention based on the principles of ABA. Harris, (2002 p19) explains “Applied Behavior Analysis takes basic principles in behaviour science and emphasizes the intensity that is needed for particular children”. As I progressed through my journey I discovered that ABA was indeed an extremely effective intervention program for autistic children. I felt that the whole process was a huge learning curve which in turn has had positive affects on my future practice. Psychology Careers

...and a safe environment with access to a variety of resources that can help people deal with personal issues. Behavior therapy is focused on helping an individual understand how changing their behavior can lead to changes in how they are feeling. (Herkov, 2013) Basically the goal in this type of therapy is to get the individual to participate in bettering themselves in a positive way, whether it be for themselves or socially. Many of these techniques include Role playing, scheduling of weekly activities, self-monitoring and behavior modification. This field is my top choice as I have grown interest in this field since my son was diagnosed with being on the Autism Spectrum. Many schools designed for Autism use ABA (applied behavioral analysis) which is a program of behavior therapy that helps the individual reach success in their individual goals. Behavior modification which includes rewarding the individual for doing something towards positive behavior. Behavioral Therapy is like any other therapist career and requires a Master’s Degree. You will find that many Behavioral Therapist hold doctoral degrees as well, since this type of therapy is so broad and can withstand specialty studies (e.g. ABA). Behavioral...

Ethics Awareness Inventory Analysis

...Ethics Awareness Inventory Analysis Ethics Awareness Inventory Analysis According to my Ethics Awareness Inventory Scoring Summary I learned my ethical profile is most closely aligned with obligation and least closely aligned with equity. I interpret the obligation part of my ethical profile as my decisions are based on obligation, responsibility, and devotion. I make moral decisions based on my upbringing and my personal and professional experiences. Growing up I was taught to respect, to have dignity, to want the best for every person, and to treat others equally. I feel an obligation to treat everyone equally. I believe every person should be free to make his or her own decisions. I interpret the lack of the equity part of my ethical profile as sometimes having difficulty making fair and impartial decisions. I will sometimes make ethical decisions based on experience, knowledge, and current circumstances versus what is right or wrong. I can admit I have an inclination to change my beliefs based on experience, knowledge, and current circumstances. Personal Development My educational and professional experiences have affected my ethical thinking, decision-making, and how I react to conflict in situations where people have different interpretations of ethical behavior. My educational experiences have thought me to behave with integrity, show excellent character, take responsibility seriously, and to follow through. Second, we want to study the difference of use of fundamental and technical tools in the buying versus selling stocks. We used online survey in one of the leading business portals in addition to asking professional investors in a leading investment house in Israel. Both groups of investors use more frequently fundamental tools than technical when they make buy/sell decisions. Cma Certificaiton

...The Institute of Management Accountants’ has created a certification that not only showcases to businesses an individual’s ability, but provides a benchmark for professionalism and ethical behavior. In 1972, the first CMA exam and accreditation was administered to accounting professionals (CMA Handbook, 2012). Forty years later, the program has developed into an internationally recognized program. Individuals who wish to distinguish themselves from thousands of other accountants have the opportunity for a board of regents to review their credentials and pass a two-part examination, which will provide certification. The areas of expertise include: financial planning, analysis, control, and decision support (CMA Handbook, 2012). This paper will cover the basic requirements of following the CMA designation and benefits it will bring. The first step that must be taken by a candidate is becoming a member of the Institute of Management Accountants. Becoming a member requires paying dues and upholding the ethical/professional stance of the organization. To fulfill the educational requirements of a CMA, an individual must receive a bachelor’s degree, in any major, from an accredited university or college. A complete listing of pre-approved schools is found at http://univ.cc/world.php (CMA Handbook, 2012). Just because a school is not on the list, does not mean a person cannot meet this particular criterion. He or she will need to submit the school and a notarized official transcript...
