...Personal and Professional Goals Lamoine Benson Campbell HCS301 September 29, 2014 Glenda Meskin Since I was a little girl, I have always dreamed of being a nurse. However, when I took Biology in high school, I not only found it overly challenging, but I was also disinterested in the subjected matter. With this realization, I gave up my dream of becoming a nurse. Over time, I eventually ended up as a secretary to a nursing program and believed that this was the closest I would ever get to the nursing field. In working this job for six years, I saw many students struggle, yet most of them graduated and went on to obtain their nursing licenses. I began to think that this may be a possibility for me. So, at the age of thirty-four, I quit my full-time job, began a part-time job as a nursing assistant, and enrolled in nursing school. Because I was single and self-supporting, going to school full-time to achieve a BSN was not an option for me. Instead, I decided to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing with the intention of completing my BSN at a later date. However, when I completed my Associate Degree, I was more interested in beginning my new career than continuing my education. However, throughout the years, I have often regretted my decision to postpone the completion of my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. At times I feel as though I am at a severe disadvantage to those nurses who possess BSNs. Fortunately, I have recently been pushed to define my goals and focus on...

...2 My Professional Goals There are several professional goals that I want to accomplish before my career is over. My first short term goal I want to accomplish is being a staff nurse III, in my unit. A staff nurse III position is considered a nurse who is known as a nurse leader in the unit. A staff nurse III, is the resource person in the unit. They are required to keep staff up to date with new information and participate in quality improvement projects. The next step in my professional goal is to become a clinical instructor. Clinical instructors are professionals that teach nursing students to apply knowledge in clinical settings (Koharchik & Jakub, 2014). A long term goal I want to pursue is becoming an neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP). NNP is an advanced nursing practice that utilizes extended and expanded skills, experience and knowledge in assessment, planning, implementation, diagnosis, and evaluation of the care required for neonates (Freed, Dunham, Martyn, Nantais-Smith, & Moran, 2013 ). I enjoy teaching, and the professional goals that I have chosen will give me the opportunity to teach others in a health care setting. Strengths, Ethics, & Values There were a couple reasons that I decided to return to school. First, I wanted to show my son that education is very important. If he wants to have a career, he needs a college degree. I want to teach him that knowledge is key to success. Second, I have been...

...My Personal and Professional Goals Deundra Newton HCS/301 June 22, 2015 Professor Barbara Deets My Personal Goals I am currently a student at the University of Phoenix working to obtain my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. In life, there are several obstacles that may come about that can deter a person from accomplishing his or her personal goals as well as their professional goals. I think that to achieve any goal, I must first have a plan that I can show adherence. My personal goal in life is to lose weight so that I can live a healthier lifestyle. My professional goals include completing the BSN program as well as working to obtain my MSN in Education. The goals that I have set forth to achieve will be an asset to my future and provide a sense of fulfillment as I continue this road to success. In writing this essay, I plan to express to the reader how determined I am to achieve my goals and provide insight on how I plan to achieve them. One personal short-term goal that I would like to accomplish would be to lose a minimum of ten pounds in 3 months. "Obesity is a major health problem in the United States, with over 50% of Americans classified as overweight or obese” (Hill & Wing, 2001, p. 324). Living a healthier lifestyle is important to be physically and mentally prepared for my future. The skills needed to be effective include being more patient, development of a realistic perspective, determination, and the ability to remain positive. In the past, I...

...Personal and Professional Goals Andreea Pop HCS/301 February 07, 2011 Personal and Professional Goals Over the last couple of years I have been contemplating over the direction of my life, and finally decided it is time to assume more control over it. That is way I decided to return to school in order to earn my BSN. This paper will address the decisions that I will be making, the strategies I will use, and the milestones I will accomplish during my journey through the BSN at UOP, as well as in life. Once I had my personal and professional goals in mind, I was able to select the degree that was most likely to help me achieve my goals. I would like to start by saying that achieving my BSN is a short-term professional goal, and in order to reach my goal will be necessary to develop a plan of action that will facilitate the process of reaching my objectives.” According to Lazarus and Folkom (1984), adjustment to life events is mediated by the individual processes of cognitive appraisal and copying behavior”(Gall, Evans, & Bellerose, 2000, p.545). The authors believe that the living environment, familial relationships and the social support influence the copying behaviors of a student. In order to be able to adjust to the university’s requirements, one has to learn how to balance family, work and school, all at the same time. It is important to understand that...

...Personal Goals HCS/301 February 5, 2015 Setting goals both personal and professional is easier than putting the goals on paper and figuring out how to achieve them. Personal and professional goals can be achieved with confidence and purpose. Balancing drive, achieving personal excellence, and minimizing stress can help accomplish your goals. (Lipsey, 2005). My personal and professional goals seem to coincide with one another. I have made my career a priority for most of my adult life, working long hours several days a week. The drive was both financial and achieving excellence in my profession. At the point that I felt I had reached my maximum potential in my previous role as charge nurse of a busy critical care unit, I knew that it was time to move on. Try something new, and that meant I was most likely going to return to school. Earning my BSN in July of 2016 is a short-term goal that will help meet both of my long-term goals. This had been an original personal goal when I first started nursing school, but with young children it quickly was put on the back burner. When my oldest daughter graduated with her bachelor’s degree, this only reinforced that it was now time. The cohort from the hospital seemed like the perfect choice for me. Going to school with colleagues will help hold me accountable for the work. I did look into a few online programs, and I did not feel that I had the motivation to hold myself accountable to do the work. The team charters that we have formed...

...Professional SMART Goal Paper The professional smart goal that I chose was to become more familiar with online learning. My reason for choosing this goal is because it will make it easier for me to learn new healthcare information and make career advances without having to go into the classroom. Since healthcare is changing everyday, it is not always fesible to get time off of work to learn new information. According to article entitled Benefits, Barriers, and Intentions/Desires of Nurses Related to Distance Learning in Rural Island Communities, “The key benefit of the use of distance learning and new information technologies in practice and education is to provide a "flexible quality education" that allows nurses to continue to work, raise families, and live in their home communities” (Charles & Mamary, 2002 ; Hall & Fabayo, 2006 ; Kooker, Itano, & Okimoto, 2000 ). Although online learning is made to be flexible, sometimes some of the benefits can also prove to be challenges. Having a family can sometimes make it very difficult to find time to do your school work. To help with this challenge, once my schedule is received for the week I should make a schedule with reasonable times set aside to study and complete assignments while also setting aside time for family matters all while trying my best to stick to my schedule keeping in mind that sometimes with having a family unexpected things arise which could alter my schedule. Secondly working while in school can...

...My future professional goals are to attend college, then to start my own business of music education. When I open my music business I will offer private lessons in every instrument that I know or learn, group workshops, ensembles, and concerts to give all of my students the opportunity to learn, work together, and perform while enjoying the experience. I would also be content as an instrumental music teacher in a school; however, I prefer to open my own business. With the help of this scholarship, I believe that I can reach my professional goals. I must pay for college all on my own. My parents paid their own ways through college and they expect me to do the same. I also want to take control of my own finances so that I can effectively manage my own budget and be sure that I am spending my money responsibly. Additionally, as a future local small business owner, I want to learn how to raise money. The government and colleges do not believe that I have financial need because my dad has a good job as an...

...Example of a Professional Goal Statement: Doctoral Program in Special Education I have had the opportunity to work in Special Education as a paraprofessional and teacher, both in the public and private spheres. These experiences have created a passion in me to work in this field and learn more about it. As a consequence, I am presently completing a Masters and beginning my Doctorate Program, all in Special Education. I am currently taking one doctorate course this semester and plan to start fulltime in the Fall. Since I am still in the early stages of the program, my interests are diverse and I recognize that there is much to learn regarding Special Education as a whole. Nevertheless three areas of specific interest for me include reading disabilities, early intervention, and teacher education, which I expand upon in what follows. A key component throughout my six years of professional experience has been working with students with reading disabilities. In this time, I have become exposed to different methods and ways of teaching students. In turn, I am eager to become well-read in the literature around reading disabilities and do my own research in the area. Presently, I plan to pursue a minor related to this area. Concurrently, I am interested in early intervention specifically related to learning disabilities. I have had the opportunity to act as the Assessment Coordinator for the Children’s School Success project for the last academic year. This grant measures...

...Personal Education Philosophy Shingiro Bertin Regis University EDFD405_XJ70_Perspectives in Education Sylvia Miller 21st Aug. 2014 Everyone, I mean scholars must be given chance to become whatever they want to be in their life. My methodology of teaching is to make every students count and my education should be founded on truths and realities. I wish to have a class which is excellent and fair. Everyone of this class should accept and respect his fellow students, even others. These days, education has been simply a memorization of realities; however, as Cooper (2007) stated,” Education is a lifelong learning process; it starts long before we begin school and should be an ongoing part of our lives (p.25).” my education should promote learning and continued learning to ensure the development of our societies. In teaching I don’t want to be like I am simply informing students, according to Cooper (2007),” in perennialism, the teacher’s role is to deliver clear lectures; increase students' understanding with critical questions.” Questions should be there to ensure that the lesson is well-understood. I will every time ask my students what they are thinking on each lesson I will be giving to get views of them. As Cooper (2007) supported,” mastery of questioning skills contributes to students’ learning and thus is important for effective teaching (p.175).”I will inspire my students to be active by asking me questions on what they didn’t get well and I will try to exploit every minute...

I will strive to become a well-respected medical professional who provides excellent care for infants and children. As I plan my future at UNI and Allen College, I have set short term goals to help me achieve my dreams. I am currently working towards my CNA certification through a local community college. I plan to apply my skills at a part-time job in a healthcare facility while I am attending classes at the University of Northern Iowa to gain experience before I begin nursing school. In the fall, I plan to attend the UNI where I will finish completing my general education coursework...

...it pertains to students finding the careers that they are looking for. I want to be a part of that. In the future, when I tell employers where I have gone to school, I hope that they will be impressed. I hope that they well think to themselves “We need him.” I think ITT Technical Institute can do that for me. What are at least two goals that you have set for yourself in general? A: One of my general goals is to stop procrastinating. I have a bad habit of putting things off until the last possible minute before I finally set out to finish whatever task it is that is pending in my life. I hope to train myself to see what needs to be done and not think that I can let it wait. That I have to do other things that are more important. Or convince myself that I don't really have to do that certain task in the first place. I think that I can use the experience of going back to school so late in my career, as a catalyst for a change in my procrastinating behavior. Getting a degree, while balancing a full-time job and a home life, is, I think, going to be “sink or swim”. And I very much want to be a swimmer. B: Another of my general goals is to buy a new car. My roommates have been generous over the last 6+ years and allowed me to use their vehicles when I needed them. It is high-time that I get my own vehicle and be able to return the favor. Also, it will allow me to not be dependent on them when it...

...MY PROFFESSIONAL GOAL My professional goal is to become an influential healthcare provider and impact the health care field worldwide. Since childhood, I always anticipated being a doctor. Indeed through life experiences I have had, my dream of being a doctor has become even more vital. Furthermore, I have a passion of finding strategies for improving health care. I grew up in Kenya where health care was the worst people die needlessly due to persistent strikes by the health care providers. These on and off strikes leave the less fortunate dying like flies. Moreover, health care providers prioritize money than they value life. This breaks my heart. Furthermore, I have had a devastating experience my mum has been sick on and off and what...
