Program Outcome #7: Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course has allowed my growth and has equipped me with the tools to become more comfortable in the practice setting. Even though I have cared for hundreds of patients before, during my initial contact in the clinical setting I was a bit nervous possible because of my soon to be new role as a provider who will be liable for making safe and appropriate decision in caring for patients. The different case studies provided in the course and learning about the differential diagnoses has also helped me to pinpoint the main diagnosis before initiating a treatment plan. …show more content…
According to Greene, Tuzzio, & Cherkin (2012), it is significant that in all health care system, whether it is a solo practitioner system or a large multispecialty practice, care should be respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values.” The course has given me the guide on how to apply such models in my practicum and future practice, which has allowed me to further individualize my care according to the most appropriate evidence-based practice. According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioner (2017), EBP is an essential component to offering high quality, cost-effective care and ultimately will improve patient’s outcome. EBP recommendations should be used to prevent harm from reaching patients and the Advanced Practice Nurse should implement this into their practice (American Association of Nurse Practitioner

Differences in Competencies

...requirements for entry into the nursing profession continue. Currently there are 3 types of entry to become a nurse; diploma, associate degree, and baccalaureate degree. Diploma programs were started in 1873 and consisted of hospital-based training programs. “The decline in the number of programs began in earnest in the 1960s and 1970s and continues even today”(Creasia&Friberg,2011,p24). Due to the nursing shortage, 2 year associate degree programs were established by Mildred Montag following WWII to increase the supply of nurses available. These programs were cost-effective and supposed to be temporary but grew phenomenally popular throughout the years. Most were established at community colleges and still exist today. Baccalaureate programs were established in Minnesota in 1909 and today lasts 4 academic years in length. “BSN programs encompass all of the course work taught in ADN and diploma programs plus a more in-depth treatment of physical and social sciences, nursing research, public and community health, nursing management, and the humanities”(Raines&Taglaireni,2008). All degree program graduates take the NCLEX-RN exam for licensing. The research explored determines that although “new nurses pass the licensing exam at the same rate does not mean that all entry-level nurses are equally prepared for practice”(AACN,2012) The following will exhibit that BSN nurses are more...
