Employee recognition can be given in many ways--through saying thank you, giving praise, providing opportunity, or showing respect. Everyone likes to be recognized for the hard work that they do which is essentially a positive feedback that lets employees know they are valued and appreciated. Recognition needs to happen on an ongoing basis and in a variety of different ways to foster positive working environment. Recognition Program provides each person different opportunities for acknowledging staff members, peers and colleagues. Recognition program will foster staff engagement thus boosting employee retention, reducing staff turnaround and encouraging performance improvement. Recognition is more than just a praise or reward. It is a way of motivating employees by celebrating high quality performances in a manner that is visible both formally and informally.

The peer-nominated Awards of Excellence are designed to acknowledge individuals who have gone above and beyond the customary expectations of their role. There are four categories to acknowledging outstanding achievement by staff:

Customer Service
This award recognizes and affirms the positive energy and initiative of an employee who consistently demonstrates and provides exemplary service over and above their normal, day-to-day duties and responsibilities, to support Hospital customers.

Peer Leader
This award honours someone who is outstanding in his/her role. This individual is recognized for leadership; guiding, assisting, and promoting colleagues to expand their knowledge and increase the skills of other team members by sharing their expertise.

Rookie of the Year
This award honours an employee who is new to the organization (less than one year of service) and who has demonstrated a positive commitment, excellence in her/his work and an effective mastering of the role.

Improvement
This award honours an individual who takes initiative to propose quality and efficiency improvements to work processes by demonstrating creativity and ‘out of the box thinking’ and finding creative ways to collaborate with customers and implementing solutions that meet their needs.

It seems as though, one of the author’s main points was to convey the message that some of the simplest moments in her life were also the happiest and most memorable.
