...“I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else. He alone has kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people” (Wiesel 81). If I was a Jew during this time, I would agree with this quote. Everything seemed hopeless and they felt betrayed by God. I believe that Hitler kept his promises to the Jews and payed more attention to them then God did during the Holocaust. Hitler ordered the Germans to occupy Jewish towns and issued various decrees to them. This happened in Elie’s small town of Sighet, Romania. The officers deported all foreign Jews; including Moshe the Beadle (page 6). The Holocaust has officially started. Hitler wanted to gather all of the Jews in concentration camps so that they would no longer be roaming around the streets....

...My holiday with your company did not correspond to what the advertisement claims. Firstly, the advert states that five activities would be offered every day but in fact we were offered only two per day. Secondly, the advert promises one three-day camping expedition to introduce the joys of group-work. Unfortunately, we couldn’t even pitch the tents! Thirdly, it says that our “day off” would be full of the varied, remarkable and relaxing games cited in the leaflet at the residential centre. Actually, the centre was found full so they put us in a youth hostel, instead, some seven kilometres away with no buses and no taxis. For the relaxing games and the remarkable facilities, we were provided with a broken tennis table and used pack of cards. Besides, your company promises comfortable double rooms and memorable delicious meals for accommodation. To our astonishment, the only comfort we found was very dirty bed –clothes and disgusting meals. In general, our holiday was far from the one you had made us expect and the promises you had made us dream of. As a result of all these non-kept promises, I feel like I have been betrayed because I kept my promise of paying you and you did not. The only thing in your leaflet which is true is when you promise in the very introduction that the holiday with you will be an experience we will never forget !!! And it is so. Yours faithfully, Signature. Please find enclosed the facsimile of my...

...World War Two is the most known war around the World and there were many victims that did not survive but the ones who did often recount their lives during this time by writing. One example of this is the noel Night by Elie Wiesel. Within this novel there were many quotes that had significant impacts on the lives of their readers and three very important quotes are: "… Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes,"(p. 34) "I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else. He alone kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people."(p.81). Another important part is when Wiesel explained that after the death of the youth from Warsaw the soup tastes better than ever but after the death of Pipel the soup tasted like corpses. The significance of each of these quotes are unique ways but they all go together in explaining Elie Wiesel's experience in the Holocaust. The first quote, "...Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes..." (Wiesel 34) is significant because it finally explained the lost of faith that Wiesel had lost. In the...

...its simplest form is a promise. The Bible refers to covenants many times throughout, most often in the Old Testament. Different stories contain different covenants that God has made with various people in the Bible; each of these stories has an underlying theme that is consistent. The theme is simple; a covenant with God is a promise between God and the people of God that can never be broken. Three main covenants in the Old Testament are those between God and Noah, God and Abraham, and God and Moses. In each of these covenants, God is making a promise to a single person, for the good of all people who wish to listen and to follow Him. In each of these three covenants, there is also a new relationship formed, granting redemption to God’s people, a key element that is common among the covenants with Noah, Abraham, and Moses. There are a few different elements of a covenant and by understanding the different elements of covenants, we are then able to fully understand and appreciate the covenants that are found in the Old Testament. Covenant derives in the Old Testament from the Hebrew word be’rith. There are two different concepts of the meaning of be’rith. The first concept is that be’rith means to select or chose and the second concept of be’rith is a bond or joining together. (Ludlow) Upon looking at these two different meanings of one word, it puts the concept of creating a covenant into perspective. It is as if God chooses who he wants to make His promise with, and then He joins...

...Sunday Service (October 7, 2012) April Jade Bonoan How to Keep the Faith and Finish and Finish the Race. The Book of Hebrews is known for Its Hall of the Fame – the list is long in chapter 11 of the book of names of people of old who because of their faith made their way into God’s honor roll of the faithful. Reading the entire chapter, it made me wonder how they kept the faith. Today we are going to study the twelfth chapter of Hebrews. First thing we have to do is I. Have a Proper Start How we start determines how we end. Before we run the race, we have to let go of certain things. A lot Christians instead of having a proper start found themselves running yet stopping in the middle of the race. And once they stopped it was so hard to regain the track. Paul encourages his readers to lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares. To finish the race is another way of saying that we have kept the faith. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. “ – 2 Timothy 4:7 A. Dead Works - The weight that Paul was referring to here that we should lay aside, is not a sin. These are what we call the dead works. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:23 that all things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial. These are things that we could live better without. Just like in a race, the athletes have a choice what kind of clothing they would wear, but if they wanted to win, they must choose the light fabric. There are certain...

... Just a joke. The story is set in the past, at least it’s told like it’s something that has happened in the past. The story ends with these lines: I kept my promise. I like to think Ray kept his. Again, this shows the narrators reliability, and his good nature. The last couple of lines are told in present time. Like the narrator is telling you the story right now. Over a cup of coffee, maybe? Or tea, if you don’t like coffee. The narrator could drink both, because he is a good person. He has his own small jewelry business; he is friendly, calm and unsuspecting. After Ray shoots him, he feels no need to take revenge and no anger. Ray on the other hand, is the complete opposite of the narrator. Of course it’s a big minus, walking around shooting people, but his behavior has its reasons. Ray comes from a background of drugs and crime and a violent father. Ray’s plan has always been to shoot the narrator, from the moment the narrator picked him up. But the narrator is “too damn nice” to Ray, so Ray couldn’t make himself do it from the start. Because of his background, he is unused to sympathetic people. The narrator is taken to the hospital by Ray, after serious discussions and negotiations. The narrator and Ray make a deal, that if the narrator is taken to the hospital, he won’t turn Ray in or report him to the police. Ray promises never to do anything like...

...A promise is a promise. When a promise is made, that promise shouldn't be broken. A promise was made in the Odyssey, and Eurylochus broke that promise. In Homer’s Odyssey Eurylochus shouldn't have killed Helios’s cattle because they were craving something different, a promise was made to not kill the cattle, and a lot of people died from it. Eurylochus shouldn't have killed the cows because they didn't want fish. Eurylochus and his crew shouldn't have killed the cows just because they wanted something different. Eurylochus promised to leave the cows alone. However, when he was fishing, he decided he didn't want fish, so he killed the cows and ate them. The men were around a bunch of fish, yet they chose to kill the cows. He shouldn't...

She was born into a life of poverty, but her family was loving and devoted to God. St. Bernadette was “intellectually ignorant” of concepts such as the Immaculate Conception at age 14. On February 11th, 1858, St. Bernadette had a vision of the ‘beautiful lady’ for the first time. “The Lady was dressed in white, wearing a white dress, a blue girdle and a yellow rose on each foot, the same color as the chain of her rosary (“Biography of St. Bernadette Soubirous”). St. Bernadette promised the lady that she would return and Bernadette kept her promise. Many people would accompany St. Bernadette to the grotto, but only Bernadette...

...ENGR 100 Exploring Engineering October 1, 2012 Engineering Ethics Case Study Assignment 2. What are the moral issues? The structural engineer has made a promise to the client to keep the report confidential. To break this promise would be immoral as an engineer. Also, the engineer is expected to stick to his own discipline and not work out solutions to problems that involve a field in which he is not an expert. However, the number one moral rule of being an engineer is to hold paramount the safety and well-being of fellow humans and society so it is important that he ensures the safety of the people living in this apparently unsuitable apartment building. 3. Who is affected by the decision you make? The client is directly affected by the decision made. The decision of the engineer to keep the report confidential could be crucial to whether or not he can sell this apartment building. Consequentially, if the client cannot sell this building at the fault of the engineer, the engineer will certainly lose his job or be turned away by future potential clients. Indirectly then, the engineer’s family could be affected if he were to lose his job. The client’s family could also be affected in a similar way if the client needs to sell this building to make a living. Of course, the inhabitants of the apartment will also be affected by the engineer’s decision because they are living in the potentially dangerous building. 4. What are your options? a. The engineer...

...Hector and Achilles was very brutal. Hector tried to get away from him, but he couldn't. Achilles finally gets revenge on Hector for the death of his best friend Patroclus. Achilles kills Hector in front everybody, causing shame to Hectors death. Achilles makes it known to Hector that this is the price you pay for killing my dear friend. So in conclusion, I found Book Eighteen to be very interesting. I love the way Achilles showed honor towards his best friend Patroclus. He made a promise and he kept that promise. Often times you hear people make promises or set goals, but they fail to accomplish. However, Achilles wasn’t that type of a person. Achilles didn't allow second thoughts, negative comments, or distractions stop him from seeking revenge on Hector. His grief and guilt tried to stop him, but he kept moving forward towards his goal. Achilles showed great strong determination. He risks his life for this best friend Patroclus. However, my favorite part of the poem is when Achilles kept his eye on the prize, and the prize was getting revenge on Hector for killing his best friend Patroclus. ...

...Genesis and Exodus are both important books in the bible. However, Exodus is the most beneficial to our Christian faith. The first reason being the showing of God’s loyalty and fulfillment of promises. The second the reviling of God’s power. Finally, the third reason is the ten commandments. These three points are the reasons Exodus is more important than Genesis for the Christian faith. When you promise something the promise itself does not matter. The end result is the more important factor. Weather the promise is kept or not is more important than the actual promise. Someone can promise you the world but their words can be empty. It only matters if they keep that promise. Similarly, the promise God made to Abraham is not as important as...

...is that branch of law which determines the circumstances in which promise made by the parties to a contract shall be legally binding on them. All of us enter into a number of contracts everyday knowingly or unknowingly. Each contract creates some right and duties upon the contracting parties. Indian contract deals with the enforcement of these rights and duties upon the parties. Indian Contract Act, 1872 came into effect from 1st September, 1872. It extends after independence to whole Pakistan and known as “Contract Act, 1872”. Contract law is based on the principles expressed in Latin phrase; “PACTA SUNT SERVANDA”. The meaning of this phrase is “agreements to be kept”, but more literary means “PACTA” is `must be kept`. "An agreement enforceable by law is a contract. It is clear these definitions that the there elements of a contract ore (a) Agreement Contractual Obligation (b) Enforceability by Law. For Example: X invites his friend to tea and the latter accepts the invitation. This is a social agreement not a contract because it does not imply any legal obligation. We can say that (a) All contracts are agreements, (b) But all agreements are not contracts. (A) All Contracts are Agreements Agreement Is an Essential of a Valid Contract Definition Section 2(h) of the Indian Contract Act defines the term contract as “any agreement enforceable by law” Section 2(e) defines agreement as “every promise and every...
