Prophet Lucius was a North African, Libya Cyrene, who was a Christian, Jew, a teacher and a prophet in the Church of Antioch. Lucius was among the other prophets in the church who commissioned Paul and Barnabas for their first missionary work which enables them to preach the gospel of Christ with boldness to the Jews and the Gentiles (Acts 13:1-4, 46,49-52; Romans 16:21). The bible states that the early church faced great persecutions after the death of Stephen, and they were scattered abroad. Subsequent to this, the early church was preaching the gospel to the Jews only. However, the Bible told us that the African, Libya Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. We should also take note that not only do we have African Christians in the early church, but the bible also told us that we have African, Libyans, and Egyptians who were devoted Jews, having their own Synagogue in Jerusalem. According to the amplified bible, the African Cyrenians synagogue was called the synagogue of the freedmen (freed Jewish slaves), meaning that these men were once Africa Libyans Jewish slaves who practiced the Mosaic law. Looking very closely into the scripture also, I saw that the Synagogue of these African Cyrenians was also called the synagogues of the Alexandrians, and the city of Alexandria is located in Egypt, and the people of Alexandria were Egyptians, this means that the African Cyrenian Libyans and the African Egyptians, were once Jewish slaves whom together established their own Jewish synagogues and named it after their freedom which was called “the synagogues of freedmen, freed Jewish slaves” (Acts 6:9-15;
