Proposition Eight

Turn on any bay area news channel during news time and at least one story regarding opposite gender marriage will be on. The thought of the law passing in support of same gender marriage is becoming fervor among the gay community in the bay area and California. The number of people apposed to the laws changing in favor of same gender marriage is large but the number of people supporting same gender marriage is vastly growing and the youth are leading the way. The media aids in portrayal of same gender couples as if they were a style with widespread footage shown on the Internet and television. Although the media plasters traces of same gender passion throughout the Internet and television for all adolescence to see, the fact still exist that it is the civil right of each individual in the country to be treated upon fairly by the government regardless of their gender, race, and sexual preference.
The majority of people in California in favor of The California protection act that is a ballot proposition and Constitution amendment that passed by means of state election better known as proposition eight, involves the band on same couple marriage in California. The majority of people who have apposed the measure on same gender marriage may be large but the number of people in favor of same gender marriage is growing and especially among our youth in California. The trend of same gender passion is all throughout the media and television shows. One movie that exploded throughout mainstream media and society was Broke Back Mountain. Broke Back Mountain is a controversial movie that depicts a sexual relationship between two men in the American west. President George W. Bush announced to a crowd that he had seen the movie. The young crowd responded to President Bush with a loud boisterous cheer. The movie was made in 2005 and went on to receive best picture and best director accolades. During the MTV 20th annual music award show Brittany Spears and Madonna were performing a song together as half of America watched, Brittany Spears and Madonna reached toward each other in the middle of the performance and gave each other an open mouth kiss. The kiss was all over the Internet for all youth and anyone else who was interested in watching the entire spectacle on YouTube video and other web pages. With the emergence of YouTube video on the Internet any site is seldom unseen. All that is announced by media as trendy can be tracked and watched on Internet, television, and TiVo. Young children and adolescence already emulate what they see on television and this may not be the message we want to send out to youth. The media may be at fault for less censorship of contemporary times and of what the mainstream audience is know able to see. Only in modern day media would kissing between the same genders be permitted to air on television. Maybe the media boasting two woman kissing as the latest trend does not mean that government has the right to be unfavorable toward people who whish to be with the same gender.
A revision of the California domestic partnership law could be the answer by giving same sex couples the same rights as that of a marriage between a man and woman. Marriage may be more of a contractual agreement than a right. If all the contractual laws that apply in a marriage between a man and a woman are met to apply with an opposite gender couple that may suffice as a marriage for that couple. Regardless of the media’s depiction of same gender trends and fads, the fact exist that each individual regardless of what gender preference has a right of choice by law. The revision of California domestic partnership law could be revised to satisfy the same gender couples in a manner in which all parties are gratified. Marriage can be more of a contract than a right and if that is not believed just watch some of the divorce court shows on television. The revision of the California domestic partnership law could be litigated and amended to conciliate livid individuals who appose proposition eight.
The State Constitution put proposition eight in immediate effect the day after the ruling in favor of the election, which may affirm the large number of people who are in support of proposition eight. Part of the up and coming opposition tend to be less conservative, more liberal, and younger than those who appose proposition eight. The media has portrayed same gender relationships as a trendy thing of modern times that may have frightened the more conservative populace of society in California and throughout America. The more conservatives of California that voted favorably for proposition eight may think that marriage should be between a man and woman on an ethical not civil argument. Surveys show those who voted in favor of proposition eight attend church services at least once a week and those who do support same gender marriage attend church services only once a month. The survey may suggest tthat people who are not in favor of same gender marriage may perceive proposition eight as a moral stance on their beliefs. The supporters of proposition eight may be ignoring the fact of the civil right issues that proposition eight infringe on same gender couples who are born with the same rights as that of all Americans in this great country.

Viewers expecting to sit back, relax and switch off for a couple of hours - this film is not for you. A barrage of dream sequences interrupted by brief encounters with endless characters; this is a piece of shamelessly self indulgent psychoanalysis on Fellini's part. Of course, this is exactly what he intended. The main character is that of Guido (played by Fellini himself) a director unable to complete his latest film and loosely based on the identity of his own creator (Fellini). Fellini has been able to achieve the effect of mise en abyme not only through the dream sequences but also with this being an autobiographical piece. Viewers are intentionally lulled into the false belief that they are watching a film about Fellini, not the character Guido. Throughout, obvious references to the films chaos and irregularities are made by characters through their criticism of the unfinished, fictional film. When giving Guido notes on his film, one character calls it 'a chain of gratuitous episodes' which pretty much describes Fellini's 8½ to perfection. In another scene Guido is criticised for his obsession with depicting 'Italy's Catholic conscience' which is also a reoccurring motif of Fellini's.
