My current even is over Dentistry and the Opioid Epidemic I really liked this article because it talks about how in the death rates for overdosing doubled in 1999-2013 and that it continues to increase. The article informs you how the addiction to opioids start in a dental setting, they say it can start just from a simple procedure such as getting your wisdom teeth pulled or a root canal and that people start out fine on the medication but sometimes their pain tolerance goes up and the start to get immune to the pain pill so that they have to start taking more than the doctor proscribes, that’s how the addiction starts. I feel like my current event is important to dentistry because it allows the dentist and their assistants to pay more attention to people that may be addicted to opioids and are willing to do anything for them. Addiction to opioids is a dangerous thing and I feel like there are other ways to take away pain such as warm and hot towels, rinsing mouth with salt water, grounded clove or clove oil, Echinacea. I feel like dentist need to go back to some old remedies that cab help with pain management not saying that all remedies work but how will we know if they work if we never have tried them out, these remedies may actually help save lives at the same time keep you from having to take a narcotic.
