This right is also synonymously used with the freedom of expression. The freedom speech has been beneficial in the area of constitutional and governance. People in different regions and countries of the world have spoken out against the status quo and led to changes is the constitutions. Because of people speaking out, we have seen major changes such as abolishment of the monarchy, introduction of multiparty systems and referendums. The freedom of speech has led to social movements that have led to governments making legislation that have promoted democracy.
