Harel Tillinger In the article by the Associated Press, it discusses eating meat, especially processed meat such as salami, beef jerky, and red meats as a cause for cancer. The main cancer as a result of eating these types of meat are either colon or stomach cancer. Many meats in the United States have various chemicals inserted into them and the American Cancer Society has warned for many years to not eat meat in excess. Next, cancer is caused by the addition of nitrates or nitrites, which when consumed by the body is converted into cancerous compounds. Most concerning is when meats are cooked at high temperatures such as frying or grilling which causes the most cancerous compounds to form. Overall, one must portion the amount of meat one eats in a day in order to lessen the risk of cancer. This study is viewed as very important by many different people in the scientific community, especially nutritionists and scientists, but one should …show more content…
The new plan comes after many years of deliberation from numerous different people to bring this proposal to fruition. There has been a spike in melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, in adults in their 40’s and 50’s. This is due to their exposure to tanning beds which emits ten times more ultraviolet radiation than the sun from their use of the tanning beds in their teenage years. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has for many years admonished tanning bed manufacturers to make clearer warning signs and to include an emergency shut off button. This would be very hard for the FDA to enforce due to the over 33,000 various places from salons to spas that offer tanning beds. The other side of the argument states that tanning beds should be up to the parents, not the government, but with the new proposal, teens must sign consent forms and receive parental permission before using the tanning
