Over the years, processors have evolved organic food into “frankenfood” or food that has been genetically modified. These modifications have intrigued consumers to wonder how safe are GMOs , since the processors are controlling the food system with political and economic factors. They have revolutionized the way consumers eat, but have developed controversy over what should be required labeled. As a distrusted consumer, I know food labeling comes with pros and cons but I have the right to know what I am eating and its safety. In America instead of voluntary labeling, it should be mandatory because it provides consumer choice, the public interest, and caution for potential health issues. These companies are controlling life by using chemical substances that may be a potential harm to consumers. A genetically modified organism contains many bioengineered ingredients and their DNA composition is altered in …show more content…
According to the researchers Grueure, Carter, and Farzin, in the article “ What labelling policy for consumer choice?”, they state that the people trust the government and rely that they “would not allow the sell of unsafe food” to the consumer (1477). Although some argue that voluntary labeling provides more consumer choice, it does not because the consumer is insignificant and is not offered the entire description on a product.The processors favor genetically modified food instead of non-GM because cost of production is less. The big industries are profiting from not labeling since people keep buying. Voluntary labeling does not provide information on GMOs and provides consumers with inadequate information or information that only benefits processors. This labeling does not entirely inform about hazardous chemicals in GMs because processors with GM products would be viewed negatively(Gruere, Carter, and Farzin

Furthermore, researchers and doctors believe that GMOs carry a huge risk; although, some scientists claim that GMOs are completely safe for human consumption. GMOs should be banned because they have a negative impact on human health, and potential risks on the environment. Although GMOs were only introduced in 1996, the side effects can already be seen: there have been increased allergic reactions, antibiotic resistant bacteria and other toxic hazards. The group of people who are for it, those who are opposed to it and there is a third neutral group which is composed of medical associations. For pro PAS, PAS is not about doctors killing patients , but it is about patients whose pain cannot be relieved. Our examination exploits the European Union’s adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards, which require firms to make this choice under IAS 40 – Investment Property. We hypothesize and find evidence that firms are more likely to choose the fair value model when the firm’s pre-IFRS domestic standards permitted or required fair values on the balance sheet, and when the firm exhibits a greater commitment to reporting transparency. We also find limited evidence that firms are more likely to choose the fair value model when ownership is more dispersed, and when the property market in which they operate has higher liquidity. Overall, our results reveal both the occurrence and causes of variation in firms’ reporting choices when differing accounting treatments are permitted.
