P4/M3/D2 Impact of government policies on a range of public services
Policies created by the UK Government can have a big impact on the public services, they can create:
Affects on all the public services
Affects on the armed services
Affects on the emergency services
ON ALL SERVICES:
FINANCE
There is a huge impact on finance with the public service. Without finance the public services such as the police could not buy the equipment needed for them to achieve the goal, such as police cars and breathalysers.
For example less officers can be appointed into the police force due to having less equipment needed so they police force will be less effective to responses.
HUMAN RIGHTS
The uniformed public services have a lot of control over our lives in the way that they have the power to take away independence, investigate our private lives and monitor our actions. They can use this against us.
In order for these powers to be allowed they must be carefully regulated to avoid abuse by the public services against the public.
The human rights act 1998 makes sure that there are checks and balances to ensure that no public service has a too big an impact or power over the citizens. This policy makes it clear that the UK citizens have certain privileges and if a public service crosses this right then the individual can take them to court.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
This has a big impact on the public services because they deal with many situations involving many different cultures and backgrounds. This is important because it stops discrimination against people of different cultures. There is a great deal of emphasis of importance on equal opportunities as the public services deal with many situations such as women in the public services as well as different ethnic groups. This is encouraged. A Sikh male police
