PSY/230

The three steps in the scientific process are unsystematic observation, building theories, and evaluating propositions. I have evaluated my personality numerous times and hoping to better myself. When I was younger I went through relationships like they were change of clothes. I always put the blame on the other person because I could do no wrong. I did not see any error on my part.
My best friend one day was bold enough to point out to me that I behaved differently when I am with my friends than when I am with my boyfriend. She said I am a very different person when I am around my friends and an entire different human being when I am with my boyfriend. Initially I did not want to hear what she had to say because I thought she was being ridiculous. I even thought she was jealous of me; but when my relationships continue to go sour, I said to myself maybe it was wise to at least listen to her.
I began to take inventory of my life and evaluate myself with the relationship at hand. I realized that when I am among my friends I am frank, outgoing, and fun, I crack jokes and made them laugh and we are all. I wanted to find out how I behave or what person I was around my boyfriend. I began by paying attention to my conversation and how I behave around my boyfriend at the time (George), when we are together. My observation paid off, I realized that I was snappy with him, I found everything he did wrong and offensive. I was seeing myself starting arguments quite often and talking over him. I realized was too proud and bossy. I was not bowing down for nothing, It feels like something comes inside of me and I behave very different.
I caught myself quickly and I asked my boyfriend if he had noticed a difference in me. He looked at me funny and said, “What do you mean.” I said the difference from when we were just friends to being in a serious

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and experience...

...THE B L A C K SWAN The HIGHLY I mpact IM of the PROBABLE Nassim Nicholas Taleb U.S.A. $26.95 Canada $34.95 is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpre dictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9 / 1 1 . For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. A BLACK SWAN Why do we not acknowledge the phenomenon of black swans until after they occur? Part of the answer, according to Taleb, is that humans are hardwired to learn specifics when they should be focused on generalities. We concentrate on things we already know and time and time again fail to take into consideration what we don't know. We are, therefore, unable to truly estimate oppor tunities, too vulnerable to the impulse to simplify, narrate, and categorize, and not open enough to rewarding those who can imagine the "impossible." For years, Taleb has studied how we fool our selves into thinking we know more than we actually do. We restrict our thinking to the irrelevant and inconsequential, while large events continue to surprise us and shape our world. Now, in this reve latory book, Taleb explains everything we know about what we don't know. He offers...
