Bachelor’s Degree Career Plan
I have always wanted to study psychology since I was a little kid. With a BA. in psychology, I can work as a career counselor, a job which relates to my graduate career as an Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Being a career counselor involves helping people select a career, assisting those in the process of changing careers, or providing vocational rehabilitation to individuals returning to the workforce.
Career counselors offer guidance and advice, for instance, to powerful businessmen or even just high school students just starting out in the world. The main goal of the career counselor is to help their clients find careers that suit them and careers that are suitable for them. Career counselors will often interview and test clients to determine where they strengths lie, and, therefore, which careers they would be good at. Counselor might also consider whether or not it is possible or advisable for a client to continue his or her education. Career counselors work in high schools and colleges to help students get ready for their chosen careers. According to the BLS, the salary for career counselors is $56,040 per year. …show more content…
For counseling, I plan to take Psychological Assessment, Theories of Personality, and Intro to Group Counseling. I already had the opportunity to do an internship in Human Resources at a bank, and next summer, I am going to do another internship at Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta. I am also planning to have more research experience, so I am looking forward to becoming a research assistant. The main skills I should develop is active listening, speaking, service orientation, social perceptiveness, and critical thinking. I consider myself to be a good listen, to be a good speaker, and to be perceptive, and I like reasoning and using logic to

Psychological Disorder Analysis

...Psychological Disorder Analysis Jamelle Martin Psy 270 December 2, 2012 Miles Castle The subject matter of this psychological disorder analysis is Marla. She is a forty-two old Hispanic female who came to the mental health clinic complaining of having trouble sleeping, feeling "jumpy all of the time," and experiencing an inability to concentrate. These symptoms are causing problems for her at work, where she is an accountant. Marla has been suffering with various symptoms for a long time and I feel that further questioning must be done in order to get an accurate reading of her symptoms and to determine what her disorder is along with a cause and treatment plan. The initial diagnosis for Marla is Dysthymic Disorder. In a typical clinical setting the following questions will be asked of Marla: 1. Have you ever seen a psychiatrist before? Marla states that she has not seen a psychiatrist before I ever her mother has seen one in the past. Marla also states that although she has never gone to see a psychiatrist she is well aware of the good work that they put in to help each patient with their individual needs. Marla also states that if she had sought help earlier she might not have gotten to the place she is today by being overwhelmed with everything around her. 2. Could you describe to me the symptoms you are feeling? Marla states that on a daily basis she is feeling tired and she has not been able to concentrate. Marla states that she has also become very jumpy...

Psychological Diagnosis

...Psychological Disorder Analysis Rosemary Scheel Creeden PSY/270 Heather Hensell July 21, 2012 Today I had a session with a woman named Marla, who is a 42-year-old Hispanic female. She came to my mental health clinic complaining of having trouble sleeping, feeling “jumpy all of the time,” and experiencing an inability to concentrate. These symptoms are causing problems for her at work, where she is an accountant. When I first met Marla I did a patient intake and asked her some questions about her life. I did this in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the root of Marla’s difficulties, what she might be suffering from, and how I could better help her. “Since ancient times, people have tried to explain, treat, and study abnormal behavior,” (Comer, 2011). My first question for Marla was why she decided to seek treatment. Marla told me that she had tried to wait and see if things would get better, but she was becoming very sleep deprived, and she was worried that she would get in trouble at work because of her fatigue and lack of concentration. I asked her how she thought therapy would help her or improve her symptoms. She said that she wasn’t quite sure but that maybe I could help her identify what was causing these symptoms so that she could find some relief. This led me to ask her how she described herself now compared to her current self. She told me that her ideal self was energetic, attentive, and not so edge. She aimed to excel at work...

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and experience...
