There are three different perspectives that could explain why a person has a disorder or does a certain behavior. Those three dissimilar perspectives are called Psychodynamic, Evolutionary, and Behavioral perspectives. What are psychodynamic, evolutionary, and behavioral perspectives? They each have their own meanings and definitions. Psychodynamic perspective means viewing personality with a focus on the unconscious and the importance of childhood experiences, then Evolutionary perspective is the evolution of behavior and the mind, using principles of natural selection, and lastly Behavioral perspective is the study of behavior and learning. Each of these perspectives have been brought up and tested as theories by different men named Charles Darwin, John Watson, and Sigmund Freud. A disorder that all the perspectives could explain is Substance Use disorder.
Psychodynamic perspective can explain substance use disorder along with anxiety very well for a couple reasons. For example, each person has an ego, superego, and most important in this situation an …show more content…
A good way to explain how behavioral perspective would describe substance use disorder is by classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is a type of learning that trains your mind to link things together and create a stimulus. For example, someone’s regular routine is to come home after work, get an alcoholic beverage, and listen to the same song on repeat until they finish their drink. That song eventually becomes a conditioned stimulus (a cue) and whenever that person hears that song it triggers a craving for alcohol. Eventually the song and alcohol form a paired association. However, they can recover from this slump by doing exposure therapy. Once they resist the urge to drink during the song, eventually their cravings will subside. ...THE B L A C K SWAN The HIGHLY I mpact IM of the PROBABLE Nassim Nicholas Taleb U.S.A. $26.95 Canada $34.95 is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpre dictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9 / 1 1 . For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. A BLACK SWAN Why do we not acknowledge the phenomenon of black swans until after they occur? Part of the answer, according to Taleb, is that humans are hardwired to learn specifics when they should be focused on generalities. We concentrate on things we already know and time and time again fail to take into consideration what we don't know. We are, therefore, unable to truly estimate oppor tunities, too vulnerable to the impulse to simplify, narrate, and categorize, and not open enough to rewarding those who can imagine the "impossible." For years, Taleb has studied how we fool our selves into thinking we know more than we actually do. We restrict our thinking to the irrelevant and inconsequential, while large events continue to surprise us and shape our world. Now, in this reve latory book, Taleb explains everything we know about what we don't know. He offers...
