A lot of people do not really grasp how amazing the human brain actually is. The human brain is so complex and interesting that it actually named itself, think about it. One of the most unique things about the brain that psychologists still study today after years of previous research is the memory. A humans memory is capable of keeping things stored up for years! Things that we might not even know that we remember. It could be things we studied very hard back in middle school or even something we happened to hear as we were walking around in public. Online you can find many activities to test the brain to see how efficient ones memory actually is. One activity that is popular among a lot of people is the memory quiz that is accessible online. This quiz asks is used to see if your memory is at the healthy level or lower. It even suggests if you should see a doctor. I found this quiz interesting because memory is something that I find myself wondering about a lot. I often wonder how my memory is and if it is not what it used to be. I feel like when I was younger I had a really effective memory that was easily average if not above. After growing into the older years and started getting out more and trying different things I always had a worry that it effected my memory in a negative way. This is what made me want to try this quiz, to figure out if the old noggin was still what it use to be (altz). This quiz asks different types of questions about how little things you might forget sometimes, like if you ever forget where your car keys or forget what day it is. Obviously, in my opinion, if you find yourself often wondering the day of the week there could be a problem. But, then there are more questions that actually you have to think about to find out the answer. Other questions show you that some things actually have effect on memory that you wouldn’t think. For example, one question asked if you rarely feel energetic. Not too many people would of actually thought that the amount of energy you had could reflect on how well your memory was. I would recommend this quiz to other people curious about their own memory. I learned about myself that I actually have an average memory based on other people. The only thing I wonder about is the truthfulness in the quiz. Some questions seem far fetched to memory but I am no psychologist so it would be hard to say if the questions are a little off or are actually things that effect memory (altz). Since the brain and memory is something I like to learn about, the other activity I chose to do was the hemisphere dominancy quiz. The brain is split into two different hemispheres, the left and the right. Each side of the hemisphere controls different parts and actions of the brain. Left hemisphere dominant people are usually more organized. When you are doing a job, you like splitting the job into tasks one step at a time instead of just attacking it as a whole. These people are usually well disciplined as well. People that are right hemisphere dominant are usually more creative. They like to use their creativeness to complete goals instead of a detailed, written out plan. These types of people usually like to steer away from life routines (Biology). The quiz requires you to answer 15 questions with either a A or B answer. At the end of the quiz you tally up each answer you got, either B or A, for either the even or odd problems. This indicates what hemisphere is more dominant. My results indicated that I was right hemisphere dominated and I tend to agree with it. I find myself not liking routines or sticking to strict schedules. I like going with the flow and working it out as it comes unless it absolutely needs a plan. Although I believe in the results I got, the quizzes online now are considered to be flawed versus all of the new technology scientists have now to figure it out. They are now used usually for introspection or entertainment (Biology). In conclusion, the brain is an amazing creation that is capable of many awesome things. Taking these two quizzes might not of really helped me gain any important knowledge, but it gave me a kind of boost on my self-perception. Instead of doubting my memory abilities I now can make myself think that I am actually average and that is nice to know.
