Purpose: Use this worksheet to brainstorm and reflect upon five significant, uplifting, positive experiences/events that had a profound impact on your life. Consider events from your childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, etc.
1. Birth of my daughter 2. Joining the military 3. Visiting Jesus’s baptism site 4. Marriage proposal 5. Assistant coaching my daughters summer cheer camp
Life Event 1 (The birth of my daughter):
Ever since I was a child playing with my barbie dolls I always imagined that I would be a mom one day. On January 14, 2009 I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl and ever since my life has forever been altered. Giving birth for me was a multi-dimensional experience, emotional, physical, cultural, and spiritual. Becoming a mother at 22 years old was a peak experience in my life that made be grow up faster.
After becoming a mother I felt a sense of maturity and self –fulfillment. Childbirth for me was both scary and joyous all at once. I was scared because I didn’t know what to expect but at the same time excited to meet this human that I had part in creating. Once she came into this world instantly there was a special bond I shared with my daughter.
Life Event 2 (Joining the military):
The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 played a major factor in my joining the military. After the events I remember just being devastated and just wanting to support the troops. In joining the military for me I wanted to help protect our nations freedom. After joining I have deployed twice in Iraq, Kuwait, and Jordan in support of Iraqi Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn, the travels, interactions with people from all different walks of life and things I have seen in being in the military have forever changed my life.
Joining the Army was something that I was and still am proud of today. I felt a sense of pride in being apart of protecting our nations freedom. It takes a lot to be impacted by a significant event to want to just take a stance to help make create change.
Life Event 3 (Visiting Jesus’s baptism site):
I have always been a religious person and grew up as a young child in church with my family. I have always heard of a read about the travels of Jesus throughout the bible and always imagined about visiting the different sites. While on deployment in Jordan I got a chance to visit the Jordan River and the Jesus baptism site. For me this site is a gem and marks the beginning of public ministry. Being a Christian and seeing the place purported to be Jesus's actual baptism site is quite fantastic.
Being able to experience and take in the archaeological site was an amazing feeling. Afterwards I felt very connected with my readings in the bible from that point forward. The entire site felt like a spiritual experience.
Life Event 4 (Marriage proposal):
I’m sure just as curious as every other girl in the world I’ve always wondered about who will be the man I marry, when he will propose and how he will propose. Well on Christmas 2013 the day my fiancé propose it changed our relationship forever. We got to share the joy with our entire friends and family and friends. We are moving to another level in our relationship and ready to take the next step in our journey as a unit. After Michael proposed I was very excited, happy and ready to share the rest of my life with him. I felt a sense of security and forever bond in our family and relationship. We had been together for over 6 years at for us it was a feeling of knowingness that there was no other match made in heaven.
Life Event 5 (Assistant coaching my daughter summer cheer camp):
My daughter and I share the same passion of cheer and dance. We spend a lot of our alone bonding time dancing and cheering all around the house. As time flies and she continues to get older I find my self thinking back to all our times and wishing I can just press pause. Last summer I got the opportunity to be a assistant cheer coach on her cheer team and I enjoyed every minute of it. During summer cheer camp we made amazing memories and captured moments that we will be able to share and bond over for the rest of our lives.
Seeing the joy and admiration my daughter had for me doing summer cheer camp made me feel amazing. I felt strong and confident in knowing I was a role model in her eyes. I feel as thought I need to ensure that I should continue sharing experiences like this with her as she grow and get older.
