Part 1

For each of the following six dimensions of health, define that dimension and list at least one characteristic, activity, belief, or attitude that reflects that dimension in your life. Provide a brief explanation of how that dimension is reflected in your life. Each response should be at least 75 words. Responses should be written in complete sentences. Refer to Ch. 1 in Health for explanations of these dimensions.

Physical health: The physical element encourages participation in regular physical activities which improve strength, endurance, and flexibility. This element involves understanding and appreciating the relationship between sound nutrition and how the body performs. It involves practicing medical self-care for minor illness and knowing when professional medical attention is needed. The physical benefits of looking good and feeling great often lead to psychological benefits of enhanced self-esteem, self-control, determination and stronger sense of direction.

Social health: This element encourages taking an active part in improving the community by supporting a healthy living environment and initiating better communication with others. This includes contributing time to community projects, participating in recycling and other conservation efforts and developing harmony within your family. Becoming more aware of your importance in society, improving our world by encouraging healthy lifestyles and initiating better communication with those around you

Intellectual health: Intellectual wellness encourages continued learning, problem solving and creativity. This dimension involves improving verbal skills, keeping aware of social and political issues and reading books, magazines, and newspapers.

Environmental health: Environmental well-being includes living in harmony

...Why do certain foods or smells elicit emotional responses? Every person has an emotional response to one or more particular foods. The response may be negative or positive depending on the situation that may have occurred with the food present. For instance a person may perk up while smelling coffee or someone may feel nauseated by just looking at a hamburger. These reactions are conditioned responses (CR) toward conditioned stimulus’ (CS) that were previously unconditioned. A conditioned response is a learned reflexive response to a conditioned stimulus. Before someone has the reaction to perk up from the scent of coffee, they first must go through a conditioning phase to associate coffee with feeling energetic. This is also called classical conditioning: the basic learning process that involves repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with a response-producing stimulus until the neutral stimulus elicits the same response. The unconditioned stimulus is coffee and the unconditioned response is energy to wake up or perk up for the day. During each morning a person may groggily get out of bed and begin brewing coffee. He or she pours a cup and begin to awaken more from the ingested caffeine. Here, we will look at how ones fear of bees may have developed.
