Contraception

Tina and Dan are considering various birth control methods. They are a newly married couple who practiced abstinence before marriage and plan on starting their family within a year.
Choose possible methods of contraception for the couple and discuss the advantages and disadvantages they would need to consider at this point in their lives.
With Tina and Dan there are many methods that they can use for birth control. I do not really think if they want to start a family within a year that birth control pills would be a wise choice. As once you start taking the pill you will have to be off of them for so long to get them out of your system to conceive. One of the methods they could use would be the diaphragm. This is a shallow cup or dome made of rubber that should be used with a spermicide. This is inserted by the women and taken out by the women so she can stop using it any time she want’s to become pregnant and there would be no wait time. The advantage with this is there is no wait time on getting pregnant and it can be used as needed. Some of the disadvantages would be the failure rate is has with pregnancy or the problem of having to insert it before intercourse which could kill the mood. Then you have the contraceptive sponge which is similar to the diaphragm as it is inserted and does not make a person wait to become pregnant. The disadvantages would be that 1 in 20 that use it have a mildly irritation to it. Then we have the condom and some of the advantages of that would be they can be bought without a prescription and over the counter. They can be readily available when needed. They require no fitting as the diaphragm and iud would. The disadvantages is their partner could be allergic to the condom, it takes away some of the spontaneous of sex. And some women and men say that it does not fulfill their sex drive like having sex without a condom. They could use the fertility awareness method this would be where the women would keep track of her period and not have sex when she is fertile and ovulating. The advantage would be that as long as you are keeping track and your period is regular it would be a good success rate. The disadvantages would be if you had a messed up period and was unregular it would be more of an risk of getting pregnant as you might not predict the right time you are ovulating.
The role that the man plays in this choosing the contraceptive would be talking to his partner to see what would be best and to see when they want to become pregnant. This could help decide on what method of birth control to use. It also helps the man feel like he has some part in planning of the family if he is asked his input in the conversation.

Linda is a young single woman with an active dating life. She chooses to be intimate only with long-term committed partners. She is wary of the risks associated with sexually transmitted infections and has decided that she does not want to be a single parent. Choose possible methods of contraception for Linda and discuss the advantages and disadvantages she should consider at this point in her life.

When it comes to Linda one of the methods that she could use would be the birth control pill as she is a single lady and is not looking to become pregnant any time soon. The advantage of the pill is that its success rate is 99% of not getting pregnant as long as you are taking them regular. This would keep her from getting pregnant. On the other hand the disadvantage would be if she forgot to take the pill for one or two days she could still ovulate and become pregnant. The other method she could use that would help her worries about sexually transmitted disease would be to use a condom. This is effective if used right and can help stop sexually transmitted diseases. Some of the advantages would be less rate of diseases and not getting pregnant if used proper. Some of the disadvantages would be the rubber could break and she could become pregnant or she could be allergic to the condom material. And the other one would be abstence and this would be not having sex at all. The advantages would be no risk of getting pregnant and no risk of catching a disease. She could use other method’s to not get pregnant but not many will help with the prevention of sexually transmitted disease’s.
The role the male plays in this scenario would be being safe and not getting his partner pregnant when not ready. It can also help him discuss the matter of sexually transmitted diseases. There are so many one night stands out there now that a women can trick a man to getting her pregnant as intrapment. This also lets the man know if he should use protection of if she has been using one already.
