...To appear in: Oxford Companion to the Affective Sciences Oxford University Press Personality and Emotion William Revelle Department of Psychology Northwestern University Klaus R. Scherer Swiss Center for Affective Sciences University of Geneva Personality is the coherent patterning of affect, behavior, cognition, and desires (goals) over time and space. Just as a full blown emotion represents an integration of feeling, action, appraisal and wants at a particular time and location so does personality represent integration over time and space of these components (Ortony et al., 2005). A helpful analogy is to consider that personality is to emotion as climate is to weather. That is, what one expects is personality, what one observes at any particular moment is emotion. To understand the personality-affect link it is necessary to consider the ways in which personality may be described. Since Theophrastus’ discussion of characters and Galen’s theory of temperament (Stelmack & Stalikas, 1991), dimensional models of individual differences in personality have consistently identified three (the Giant Three, e.g., Eysenck & Eysenck (1985)) to five (the Big Five, e.g., Digman (1990)) broad dimensions of personality. Two of these dimensions, in particular, Extraversion (E) and Neuroticism (N, sometimes referred to by the other end of the dimension as Emotional Stability) have been associated with individual differences in affective level and environmental responsivity (Corr, 2008;...

...My Life Plan Stephanie Bazilio Keiser University My Life Plan By definition, success is “the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one’s goals” (Dictionary.com, 2016). John Rawls believed that a “rational life plan” (Boss, 2015, pg. 15) needs to be developed in order to achieve success. With a life plan, the goal-setter is made aware of all the progression they’ve made, which will subconsciously make them want to do more, until they have met all of their goals. In view of this, I will be sharing my values, my strengths and weaknesses, my short and long term goals, and my plans of action to achieve those goals. This is my life plan. There are a lot of values I view as important, however, I managed to come up with my own personal statement of important values. It is important for me to live with purpose and with immense ambition, with determination and great focus. It is important for me to tear down walls, searching for independence and honesty, while preserving the sacredness of God. It is important that I welcome challenges with perseverance that will lead to wisdom and it is important that I share faith, provide hope, and spread love. I want to encourage, provide guidance, and to also inspire others, but most importantly, to love radically, serve sacrificially, and to give generously. What I have found to be my strengths during this phase of my life is the responsibility I have...

...When reading “Science of Memory-for studying and for life”, this made me think of different methods I use that are helpful to me when I need to study new material. The article talks about a process with 4 different steps organizing, encoding, rehearsing, and retrieving. I do not use all 4 but all could be helpful when learning. Organization is the first step I use to memorize any new material. Notes will not help anymore if they are poorly written on not well organized. You should arrange material so it’s easy for you to review and understand it. Experimenting with different organizational techniques will also help you find an approach that is helpful to you. Encoding is another helpful step of the process. To help your memory process try to pay attention to one thing, do not split your attention with different issues. Talk about key information that needs to be remembered. When you process the information think about it and truly process it, use mental pictures if possible to “double-encode” the information. Next is rehearsing this is the step I mostly use. Some people find it helpful to rewrite notes as a form of rehearsing. I personally take flash cards and put key information on them I’m not too sure about and study from them. Study groups can also help people rehearse, just seeing how someone else interrupted the learning material. When reading the material ask yourself questions, “what did I just read”, “what does this mean”, also test yourself on the information you...

...for properly incorporating your bank loan into these plans. Currently, Padgett has $6,853,000 outstanding in short term 90-day notes, and we understand that an additional $1.0 to $1.5 million is likely to be borrowed to support new receivables of your new acquisition. This is in contrast with the circumstance of May 1994 when we financed your previous acquisition, and our loan outstanding increased from $500,000 to $1,850,000. At that time, an anticipated restructuring of the loan was postponed until a clearer definition of longer term corporate cash need could be ascertained. In late 1995, we expressed an interest in discussing with you a restructuring of the then loan outstanding so that legitimately long-term funds could be sourced on a proper long-term basis. Our subsequent conversations and cash flow study were complicated by the anticipated major acquisition and its impact. Enclosed is a copy of our most recent Padgett forecast, the results of which we have jointly reviewed. On balance, our feeling is that the forecast may tend to understate the cash requirement in that it assumes moderate sales growth, the upholding of traditional margins, and tight control over capital expenditures and dividends. The forecast does seem to indicate a long-term need of at least $5 million which cannot be properly funded through the bank on anything resembling a full-payout term-loan basis. Given what appears to be the clear nature of the need, it seems appropriate that financing discussions with...

Everyone dreams of becoming someone their mother can be proud and someone who can make a difference in the world in which we live. This will help me along with my ultimate goal of becoming a clinical psychologist. To be successful in college I must effectively use time management skills. The most important thing to have for time management is some kind of system. Some students use the calendars on their phones; others use things like Google Calendar; others still use the classic paper-calendar model. If what you are using is not working for you, don't give up. Just change and try again (Lucer 2005). To manage my time successfully, I must prioritize my daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly activities, having an awareness of what my goals are will help me manage my activities. ...Learn the secrets to becoming financially independent. Five Reasons Why Most Don’t Become Wealthy Brian Tracy W W W.BR I A N T R AC Y.COM F I V E R E A S O N S W H Y M O S T D O N ' T B E C O M E W E A LT H Y | B R I A N T R A C Y 1 FIVE REASONS WHY MOST DON'T BECOME WEALTHY W hy is it that people don’t become wealthy? In a country like ours, with the opportunities that we have, why is it that so few people retire financially independent? And I eventually found the answers. Here are what I consider to be the five reasons why people don’t become wealthy. WHO ME? First, at the top of the list, is that it never occurs to them. The average person has grown up in a family where he has never met or known anyone who was wealthy. He goes to school and socializes with people who are not wealthy. He works with people who are not wealthy. He has a reference group or a social circle outside of work who are not wealthy. He has no role models who are wealthy. If this has happened to you throughout your formative years, up to the age of twenty, you can grow up and become a fully mature adult in our society, and it may never occur to you that it’s just as possible for you to become wealthy as for anyone else. This is why people who grow up in homes where their parents are wealthy are much more likely to become wealthy as adults than people who grew up in homes where their parents are not. So the first reason why people don’t become wealthy is it never occurs to them that...

This allows for very little discussion and editing if needed. Everyone on the team will essentially pay for your lack of responsibility to the teams assignments. When one is not willing to take responsibility for their own action the idea of success becomes impossible. Being accountable it the key to long lasting growth. My preliminary plan to practice personal responsibilities in my education are to use the three keys in every class. Setting goals to ensure I stay motivated. This will also assist me in rewarding myself adequately for successfully reaching my long, mid and short term goals. ...Adolescence and Adulthood PSY/202 November 13, 2011 Professor Mason Psychosocial development stage during adolescence happens during this stage. This is when you are testing, trying to find who you are, your strengths, and what kinds of roles are best suited to play for the rest of your life (Feldman, 2010). This stage is where you discover your identify. I discovered my own role and personality I believe I was around twelve years old. I realized I was good with others, had lots of patience with others and liked to help others so I decided I wanted to be a nurse. My mother was a nurse and I saw how much she loved her job and the way she helped people. Well when I was growing up the only big peer pressure was ditching school. I did not grow up with all the peer pressure our young adolescences have to face these days. Like drugs, sex, and pregnancies. These things were probably around when I was an adolescent but not as obvious as now. The way I responded to peer pressure was I did ditch school once. I really did not have a good time because I was so worried that my mother was going to see me or find out. So I decide it, it was not worth it so I never ditched school again. The social and physical aspects of late adulthood is the disengagement theory. This theory sees successful aging as a process of gradual withdrawal from the physical, psychological, and social worlds(Feldman, 2010). Such as retirement, losing friends due to death, less active due to poor health...

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Gen 200/Version 3 April 1, 2013 Abstract Personal responsibility is a value that many people have lost in their lives, especially when it comes to things of great importance like family, work, and school. The main focus of this essay is on the importance of personal responsibility in a specific setting, college, but reflecting on an even more personal level, my individual personal responsibility for college success. Applying this value to my already set standard of ethics, my studies, goals, and plan I have set up for myself is only half of the work. Personal Responsibility and College Success According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word “responsibility” can be defined as, “the quality or state of being responsible: as a: moral, legal, or mental accountability, b: reliability, trustworthiness (Merriam-Webster Incorporated, 2013).” Add “personal” in front, and the responsibility now becomes solely that of the individual. Personal responsibility is a large aspect of maturity. Acknowledging this point leads me to state that personal responsibility and college success go hand in hand, and I am personally responsible for my success or failure as a person, or in this specific situation, a student. As a student, teachers, advisors, counselors, and others of that variety provide the tools necessary, but it is my personal responsibility to use these productively and positively; I must create a plan, and be personally responsible...

...Abstract This study was conducted in order to find if social role influence mate preference in short-term relationships. The hypothesis was not supported after carrying out the research process. There were 35.5% male respondents and the remaining respondents were 64.5% female. Of the 31 participants, which were recruited from pool of friends on Facebook to take the fifteen minute survey, the sample size was predominantly European/White with the mean age of 21 years. The participants took three surveys in order to identify whether they fall in homemaker or provider category then they took the third survey on their preference mate. Even though there was only a single significant finding: that homemakers prefer other homemakers when considering mates for a short term relationship, this study indicates that most college students fall into provider role probably because they want to pursue a career after graduating so they prefer homemaker as their mate regardless of being in long-term or short-term relationship. Keywords: social roles, mate preferences, physical traits, college students, short term relationship, long term relationship Influence of Social Role Theory on Mate Preferences in Different Relationships People choose their mates based on many human characteristics. These characteristics may vary for each individual, type of relationship (short-term, long-term), age group, gender and even nation. Men and women don’t prefer all members of opposite sex equally.
