...Purpose of the Study The purpose of this study is to increase knowledge of the proper usage of ITNs, as part of a larger effort to increase education about malaria prevention. It is anticipated that dissemination of the results of the proposed study will increase education about the need for and proper use of ITNs, encourage community engagement in the proper use prevention of malaria measures, and help policymakers to provide for properly equipped and accessible health centers. Thus, examining the relationship between education and the proper dose of antimalarial drug is an important step to ensure proper use of antimalarial drugs and ensuring that the right dose is taken to reduce malaria. Examining the relationship between the socioeconomic status of rural residents and their health seeking behavior will shed more light on why many rural residents prefer traditional medicine over modern medicine. This may be an important initial step for public health officials in Cameroon to provide health centers that are accessible by rural residents. This study lay emphasis on the necessity of health education to raise community awareness about the proper use and adherence to existing malaria preventive measures; for instance, proper use of ITN especially by children under five, proper use of antimalarial drug to prevent malaria from its onset. Significance of the study This study is an attempt to increase our understanding of the importance of proper use of ITNs for the protection...

...is Health Promotion? Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion NRS-429V August 04, 2013 What is Health Promotion? This paper will discuss the meaning of health promotion as defined in the textbook Health Promotion Throughout the Life Span. The author will also cover the purpose of health promotion in nursing practice as well as nursing responsibilities and roles that are evolving in health promotion. Lastly, the author will explain implementation methods for health promotion that encompasses all areas of nursing as well as comparing the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of health promotion prevention. Health promotion can be defined in many ways. One definition from the textbook Health Promotion Throughout the Life Span defines it as “the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health” as well as “the process of advocating health in order to enhance the probability the personal (individual, family, and community), private (professional and business). ...Running head: Future trends in Health Care Future trends in Health Care HCS 533 April 23, 2012 Robert Ropnow PH.D. The findings of a review of trends in health care delivery that are associated with innovations in electronic communications are topic of discussion in this paper. The review focuses on four specific issues. The first issue concerned the ways in which electronic communications may be applied effectively as an external delivery mechanism in the communication of patient-specific information. The second issue centered on the impact of distance-delivery on the effectiveness of health care. The third issue involved a determination of the effects that the use of electronic communications have on health care delivery today. The fourth issue required a projection of the likely affects that the continued use of electronic communications will have on health care delivery. These interrelated issues are addressed in separate discussions in this paper. The Ways in which Electronic Communications May Be Applied Effectively as an External Delivery Mechanism in the Communication of Patient-Specific Information When considering the ways in which electronic communications may be applied effectively as an external delivery mechanism in the communication of patient-specific information, it is useful to first (a) identify the parties who will likely be involved...

...Review Test Construction Project Online Health Information Seeking Behavior The purpose of this literature review is to briefly discuss the existing literature about online health information-seeking behavior. For the purpose of this particular research we will focus on these behaviors by adults only and from the perspective the Health consumer. Other studies have looked at these behaviors in adolescents, who happen to have very different reasons for internet health information seeking than the adult demographic. And some studies have also considered the perspective of the health professional. But I will touch only briefly on this perspective for my research. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (2011), since the introduction of the World Wide Web in the early nineties, there has been a building interest in the internet as a communication tool for health-related information.” Given the overall general lean of society towards technology based mediums for a majority of communication endeavors, this trend towards online health information seeking behavior seems inevitable. This provides a means for the health consumer to be proactive about their health and become more educated about health matters. Ybarra and Suman (2006) found that proactive patients who ask the right questions “may hasten the diagnosis and treatment process.” The primary purpose of my research is to document the prevalence of health information seeking behavior on the internet...

...advocacy is defines as the act or process of encouraging or supporting an object or purpose. As explained by American Public Health Association (n.d.), Lobbying is a form of communications, which refer to and express an opinion on specific legislative proposal that introduced before a legislative body. Lobbying works to influence the outcome of legislation by trying to get a bill passed with a position to those who participate in the formulation of a comprehensive legislation. On the other hand, advocacy is participating in the democratic process by taking action or endorsement of an issue or cause. Advocacy activities as participating in town meetings, conducting free forum or press events, or developing an issue guidance for local policymakers on a specific public health issue. Advocacy application does not develop as lobbying because it is not influencing a policymaker to take a position on legislation (n.d.). Lobbyist and advocates play a pivotal role by providing a forum for state health. A vehicle that is the driving force for protecting Americans from preventable serious health threats and striving to ensure community-based health promotion and disease prevention activities, as well as, health services are universally accessible in the United States. ...Health Promotion Deanna Caswell Family Centered Health Promotion March 3rd, 2013 Health Promotion Health promotion has a variety of definitions. One being as simple as, a science and art that assists people to change lifestyle toward a state of optimal health (O’Donnell, 1997), to more complex as a process of advocating health to increase the chance that personal, private , and public support of positive health practices will become a societal norm” (Kreuter & Devore, 1980, p. 26). Despite the variances in definition health promotion is geared towards persuading public the benefits of a living a lifestyle free of negative health behaviors. The purpose of health promotion in nursing practice is to switch gears from protection of certain diseases to focus on improving the general health of the people they serve. Health promotion has changed the roles and responsibilities of nurses. Increasing demands are placed on nurses as healthcare has shifted from an acute, hospital-based care to preventive, community-based care. The home is now the primary place healthcare takes place. Reimbursement for hospital care is less resulting in shorter stays. Nurses must take on additional roles and play a bigger part of disease prevention and health promotion. A greater emphasis is being placed on nurses being more independent in their practice. Nurses are expected to be increasingly accountable morally and legally for their behavior. Nursing has evolved into many roles as advocates...

The basic principle embodied in the Article very clearly denies the statement to some of the learned authors that initially our Constitution was environmentally blind38 and environment as a subject has been left out of the Constitution. Article 47 calls upon the State to perform the basic duty to look after the health of the citizen and also take necessary and effective steps to improve their standard of living and also raise the level of nutrition. Improvement of public health forms the core of environment because due to various environmental hazards it is the health of the general people which...

...PYC4811 Assignment 1- 657794 Student Number- 55560296 Community Psychology and Public Health’s Approaches to Social Problems Introduction Community Psychology and Public Health models both cover the same ground but with key differences in the explanation of causes and influences on mental illness. Community psychology has a primary focus on understanding, and working with, people in their wider social context. Public Health on the other hand is concerned with preventing disease and distress of all forms before they occur (Tutorial Letter 102 for PYC4811, 2015). It attempts through scientific investigation to understand such links between the socioenvironmental context and the individual and then to interrupt or otherwise alter these connections in an effort to reduce the likelihood of individuals engaging in high risk behaviours and being exposed to environments that could endanger their health (Tutorial Letter 102 for PYC4811, 2015). The central focus of both is focusing more on prevention rather than cure. In the era we are currently in most of the illnesses people suffer from are long term and chronic and therefore the need to see doctors so that is can be controlled is of high demand. The growing social upheaval and intensifying tensions in South Africa have evoked concern and panic among mental health professionals. In an attempt to lessen the anxiety many psychologists have boarded the community psychology wagon to cross the great divide between the ...

...Healthcare Support Services- Public Health/ Medicare With today’s social, cultural, political and economic shifts, public health has become a huge topic of concern. More and more communities are depending on public health organizations for information, education and assistance in maintaining a healthy society. In The Untilled Fields of Public Health, Charles-Edward Amory Winslow defines public health as “the science and art of preventing diseases, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals” (Charles-Edward Amory). Public health is a non-exclusive entity. In public health, the “community” in which an issue is concerned with includes all people affected by a specific concern, illness, affliction, policy or law. Public health considers the community, not an individual, as the patient in which a proactive stance is taken, rather than a reactive one. Public health uses demographics and statistics to predict health issues and acts in accordance with those predictions to try and prevent illness or disease that a community might be at a high risk for. Public health accomplishes this by promoting awareness through providing education and information, as well as providing services that might be needed for the prevention of said illness or disease. The demographics of public health, as a whole, are non-existent. Public health is an all-inclusive organization...

...COMMUNITY AND HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY – PYC4811 PYC 4811 UNIQUE NO: 657794 Assignment 01 Critically compare and contrast the community psychology and public health approaches to social problems. Introduction to Community Psychology and Public health approach Community psychology is essentially concerned with the relationship between social systems and individual well-being in the community context. Public health refers to all organized measures to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong life among the population as a whole. Its activities aim to provide conditions in which people can be healthy and focus on entire populations, not on individual patients or diseases. Thus public health and community psychology are both concerned with a population at large and not an individual alone. (http://www.who.int/trade/glossary/story076/en/). Both approaches have a shared belief that effective treatment should focus on preventative measures that address the causes and effects of diseases as opposed to curative measures which merely treat the incidences and symptoms. (Guernina, 1995). Characteristics of both approaches Community psychology places emphasis on principles and strategies that can prevent social, emotional and behavioral problems and wellness and health promotion at the individual and community levels, borrowed from public health and preventive medicine, rather than a passive, and treatment-based medical model. Early identification and intervention...

This broad definition encompasses a wide variety of organizations — from those conducting medical research to those providing free legal services to low-income families to those preserving historic sites. It also includes corporations and foundations founded to support such activities. We’ve organized a quick overview of categories and kinds of activities. Arts, culture, and humanities This category probably makes you think of museums and concert halls. You’re right, but that’s not all.
