Punk rock in the late 1970s was an extremely unique and influential genre that was born in both England and the United States. It was largely underground with a reliance on the rejection of society, with an emphasis on a heavy reliance on community, and a strong self-empowerment attitude. The influence of punk rock continues to impact contemporary music. It, however, faces issues when dealing with inequality and topics such as sex and gender.
