...degree in psychology can open the doors to a lot of career options. It is the only graduate degree which helps in understanding the thought perspective of humans and equips you to be in a better position to communicate with others. The variety of options available after majors in psychology makes the decision even more difficult. The two career options which interest me the most are pediatric psychology and marketing. I have chosen one of the career options in the field of psychology only and another being a different field. I am interested in pursuing a career in marketing and being more involved in the creative design rather than analytics. Marketing is one career option where I feel the concepts of psychology shall be very useful. Many of my relatives are in the field of advertising or marketing and since child hood I have been somehow fascinated by this world. To grow in marketing apart from the educational qualifications, one needs to have excellent communication skills and structured thought perspective to influence the consumer. Apart from communication which is the most important skill, marketing would require strong skills to build or develop client relationships, creative writing skills in order to articulate your thoughts in a manner that it has an impact on the reader, out of the box thinking and the educational qualifications. One would need knowledge about data crunching as well, though I am not good in maths but I feel I can manage the basic levels. Pursuing a career...

...underrepresented prison populations. In order to help FFLIC advocate for policy change at a state level, my colleagues and I authored a white paper that outlined recommendations to reduce recidivism rates for juvenile offenders in Louisiana, such as offering more educational and vocational programs in prisons and implementing community-based alternatives to incarceration. Through my research, I discovered that community-based alternatives that embody therapeutic philosophies, through emphasizing skills training, counseling, and behavioral programs, can be more successful at reducing recidivism than incarceration. This experience prompted my desire to continue research on recidivism reduction in graduate school and learn more about the impact clinical psychology practices can have on reforming the criminal justice...

...Forensic Psychology When I saw the topic of this week’s post, I knew that I would definitely want to write a post on forensic psychology because that is the field that interests me. Forensic psychology is the practical use of the skills and knowledge from psychology, and applying them in the criminal and legal matters. A forensic psychologist informs the courts and law informant agency with investigations, identification, and state of mind of criminals. Coming into this class I have always known that forensic psychologist does not preform criminal profiling because that is a job given to forensics specialist and detectives. The main aspect that drew me to this career is working with the court system and work closely with criminals to understand their actions to be able to give more research on...

...BACKGROUND Biological psychology, also known as behavioral neuroscience, is defined as the application of the principles of biology to the study of physiological, genetic, and developmental mechanisms of behavior in human and non-human animals. It usually looks in at the level of nerves, neurotransmitters, brain circuitry, and the basic biological processes that run hand in hand with the body's normal and abnormal instincts. Most of the time, experiments in this field of work involve non-human animal models such as rats, mice, and primates which contributes to evidence-based practice, which i suppose is somewhat rare in the general title of psychology. Biological psychology also has a strong history of contributing to the understanding of medical disorders including those that fall under the category of clinical psychology, and abnormal psychology. This certain field has contributed important therapeutic data on a variety of conditions such as parkinson's disease, huntington's disease, alzheimer's disease, clinical depression, schizophrenia, autism, and anxiety. CAREER INFORMATION: Studies in genetics, depth psychology, sociology, or environmental science may all contribute to a fundamental preparation of the field. Those hoping to enter the career should begin training at the undergraduate level, pursuing an associates or bachelors degree in any number of related fields, including biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, or pre med. Graduates of these programs may find...

...Psychology has always been something I’ve been very intrigued in since I was about 12 or 13 years old. Although my parents told me one day when I was in kindergarten, they went in for a parent teacher conference and learned some very interesting news. It seemed my kindergarten teacher had already decided on an area of careers that I was going to pursue. When they began talking the first thing that she told them was, “ I can already tell just by watching Dylan this year so far that he will have a career with hands on social activity. He is not afraid to talk to anyone and always helps everyone when they are sad. He’s also very importunate as well.” I was repressed this story until I was about 16 because that was about the age I told my parents I want to do something with Psychology. I feel as though I am someone who’s very accost. I also watch a lot of criminal investigation shows as well, which helps with the forensic part of my pursued career. I usually can guess why the assumed killer committed the crime he or she convicted. I already know a decent amount of knowledge about...

...PART I We all get sick from time to time. Illness, disease, and physical ailments are included in the package of life. Many will argue that these problems are caused by biological factors, such as bacteria and other micro-organisms, while others are more genetically influenced. Health psychologists are involved in healthcare in a variety of programs including medical units, specialized health care programs, oncology, rehabilitation, and many other programs. They are authorized to work in governmental agencies, corporations, and colleges and universities. I am pursuing a career in clinical health psychology. ...Three years ago, I joined the Psychology Association in Guangdong Experimental High School merely out of curiosity. Surprisingly, this decision turned out to be the turning point of my life for fueling my enthusiasm in exploring the world of Psychology. In my second year at this association, I was elected the President and successfully held more than twenty events to promote knowledge about Psychology among my fellow students: carrying out workshops such as student mentoring for roughly 20% of all Grade 11 students; inviting professors to give lectures about sensory memory, childhood amnesia, and cognition for all psychology enthusiasts; holding discussion groups to analyze Psychology related movies or books such as 'The Interpretation of Dreams' and so on. Holding a variety of Psychology-related activities has not only helped develop my organizational and time management skills, but has also equipped me with an initial understanding of human nature and behaviors. Gradually, I started to consider choosing Psychology as my major at university. Since then, I have been seeking knowledge about Psychology whenever and wherever possible. Research about issues in Psychology has extended my exposure. In my daily life, I have been following news and updates on the Internet or in magazines on a monthly basis, and I am always keen on speaking to experienced professionals or supervisors who are already engaged in Psychology. They all have given me good advice about insightful perspectives...

... I have chosen a career in School psychology. Becoming a school psychologist has been something that I wanted to do since my freshman year in college. During that time I began working for an organization called Community Intervention and Research Center as a behavioral aide, which I found to be very rewarding. Though the organization was a social service agency, we worked with a lot of school and child psychologists. My job duties were to be someone who enforces behavior modification with children who were put on my case load one on one but within their normal everyday environment. Each child had a treatment plan that was put in place by their psychologist and my duty was to help implement it. So I accompanied the children on my caseload to school, home and/or their after school program. Each child had been diagnosed with some sort of emotional, behavioral, and/or learning disorder and it was my job to coach them through some of their difficulties. This job actually meant a lot to me because as a child I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Growing up was very difficult for me because I was always being kicked out of schools or put in remedial classes because a lot of schools weren’t adept at handling children with ADHD. So this job became especially important to me which is why I chose the profession of Educational Psychology. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in order to become a...

...I write well enough to become a famous author or is it my title as Editor-in-Chief that creates this stereotype? Either answer makes me laugh a little because I was the only Editor-in-Chief in years not pursuing a journalism career. Now don’t get me wrong I love to write, but my future goals don’t include a best seller (for now). I’m an observer by nature, so when psychology came up on a career inventory in high school I knew it was the field for me. The more I studied psychology, the more I could see myself doing research and observations. This combined with my passion for working with kids is why I plan to major in psychology and go on to graduate school to specialize in child or developmental psychology....

...Psychology as a Career There are many career paths to choose from regarding psychology; the one I am most interested in is an LCADC. This stands for Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Many people who choose this area of psychology do not start off pursuing it. Schooling goes far beyond just a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree is necessary (NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, DIVISION OF ADDICTION SERVICES). The Master’s degree needs to be in counseling or addictions; an MA in Psychological Counseling—Addiction Studies Track. This also requires 33 credits in approved Masters Level courses. Along with a Master’s degree, one would need to complete 270 hours of approved coursework in alcohol and drug education classes from a State approved school or facility. There are strict rules which govern the coursework and all guidelines set forth by the State of New Jersey. Along with these courses, there are internship hours which must be fulfilled. All hours must be supervised by an LCADC who is approved by the state and consist of 3,000 general hours as well as 300 direct supervision hours. Lengthy applications must be sent to the state, showing all hours logged in and signed off by a licensed professional Another important part of obtaining an LCADC in the State of New Jersey is to attend 30 self-help meetings. These meetings must be 5 Narcotics Anonymous, 5 Alcoholics Anonymous, 5 Al-Anon Meetings and 5 other self-help meetings of your choosing. Attending...
