It deals with the issue of how knowledge is derived, and how it should be tested and validated. | In psychology, for instance, there are theories and models that explain and give perspectives in understanding human behaviour, human development, personality etc. this have been tested and validated, and they can also be traced back from the ancient times. | 2.Theory | A theory is a science that is used to describe our thought or ideas, our actions and how we behave. It is based on facts that have been tested and validated, i.e. evidence based theory. | In psychology for example, it helps us to understand how people think, act and behave. A good example of a theory in psychology is the personality theories, behavioural theories, learning theories, humanistic theories, behavioural theories, psychodynamic theories etc. | 3.Model | A model is a school of thought in psychology that helps us to understand human thoughts emotions and our behaviour. | E.g. there are different types of models in psychology that are used in understanding human behaviour. This includes the cognitive/ behavioural. Psychodynamic, the medical model etc. each model provides a different perspective on the development, personality and psychopathology. | 4.A technique | A technique can be referred to a skill or a systematic procedure used to accomplish a task. It can also be referred to a method used in the diagnosis and treatment of behaviour, personality and mental disorders. | In psychology, e.g. there are certain techniques that are applied in groups, individual and in marital and family counselling. Another example will be that of conducting a research. The researcher will use certain methods of gathering information, like interviewing, using questionnaires etc. in
