Instrument used for Data Collection.

The instrument BIMS used for data collection was a survey. The survey BIMS provided the employees to use a scale provided by circling the number one to five, where five is positive response and one is negative response. “A survey is a data collection tool used to gather information about individuals. Surveys are commonly used in psychology research to obtain self- report data from study participants. A survey may focus on factual information about individuals, or it might aim to obtain the opinions of the survey takers. The survey can be administered in a couple of different ways. In one method known as structural interview, the researcher asks each participant the questions. In the other method known as a questionnaire, the participant fills out a survey on his or own” (About.com, 2014). A survey instrument was developed in an attempt to let the workers voice their opinions about their individual experiences at BIMS. The survey starts by asking about the employee’s relationship she or he has with their boss and their feelings towards her or his position. The survey also includes how long they have been employed with the company. After the results, one can imagine finding that outcome to be completely related to communication issues between low pay, staff, long hours, and workers. The data included in BIMS Employee Survey provided by Ballard Integrated Managed Services, Inc., has both quantitative and qualitative data giving employees written surveys to obtain the information. The instructions inform employees to answer by circling the number closest to their view is qualitative data. This statement is qualitative data that approximates or characterizes but does not measure the attributes, characteristics, properties, etc., of a thing or phenomenon. Qualitative data describes whereas quantitative data defines (Business Dictionary.com,2014). Employees can circle numbers one through five to show their negativity or positivity toward each question (five being positive and one being negative). The study also asks how long has the employee worked there, which division do they work in (housekeeping or maintenance), their gender, and if they are a manager or supervisor.

In reviewing the findings from the employee survey, the ultimate goal was to get the overall census of the employees on the survey questions. These survey questions were engineered to evaluate the satisfaction level of the employees at BIMS and to reveal the underlying issues and continuous concerns that were causing the high turnover and low morale at BIMS.
