...Qualitative Article Review Summary For this article review, the article that is being used is titled A Qualitative Study on Classroom Management and Classroom Discipline Problems, Reasons, and Solutions: A case of Information Technologies Class written by a number of authors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the classroom management and discipline problems that exist for teachers who teach while using technology. The article also seeks to reveal what the causes are that may be causing the issues in the classroom and the possible solutions (Erdogan, Kursun, Tan Sisman, Saltan, Gok & Yildiz, 2012). The participants that were used for this study are very diverse and widespread, but with the same common interest of identifying the problems of the classroom management. These participants of this article were made of seventeen parents, fourteen administrators, and fourteen teachers. The data that was collected was done so in a manner of the participants observing the class. This method was different, parallel, and semi-structured. Data was collected through the method of content analysis, which showed a lack of motivation, breaking rules and routines, lack of infrastructure, insufficient time management, ineffective classroom environment, and the lack of interaction in classrooms (Erdogan, Kursun, Tan Sisman, Saltan, Gok & Yildiz, 2012). The findings through these observations demonstrated that the problems were related to the place and structure of the course...

...Summary In the article, "Differentiate Curriculum Enhancement in Inclusive Middle School Science", it compared differentiated and traditional (teacher-led) instruction. For twelve weeks, they tested thirteen classes of 213 students. Out of the 213, forty-four had learning difficulties. The experimental classes received differentiated instruction, such as, hands-on and peer-mediated. While the control group received teacher-led (traditional) instruction (Mastropieri et al., 2006). This was a four-fold investigation. First, it was "to determine whether differentiated curriculum enhancements relevant to the study of scientific methods could be developed for eighth-grade inclusive science classes" (Mastropieri et al., 2006, pg. 132). Secondly, using a peer-mediated format to incorporate materials. Thirdly, they wanted to see if test scores would improve if they used this randomized field trial. Finally, it was to determine whether the students had a good experience and enjoyed using these materials (Mastropieri et al., 2006). The method of data collection included four parts. Initially, the class was given a pre-test. Then they divided the classes up into two groups. For twelve weeks, 90 minutes four days a week and 45 minutes on the fifth day, the class was instructed either through the traditional way of teaching or by using differentiated instruction. The traditional classroom learned the material either through teacher-led discussion, taking notes, using the textbook or...

...Quantitive and Qualitative Article Review Kristi Schneider Walden University NURS-4000 Res/Scholarshp Evid-based Prac2016 3-20-2016 Quantitive and Qualitative Article Review Quantitive and qualitative studies in research are an important aspect of the nursing profession. Researching and reviewing quantitive and qualitative articles is a process of systematic examination of materials to enhance, validate and learn new knowledge (Schmidt and Brown, 2012, p. 67). As Schmidt and Brown (2012) state, quantitive research design is used to predict relationships and explain relationships and causality whereas qualitative research design gives meaning to events of phenomenon’s (p.72). The purpose of this paper is to identify and interpret research questions, study designs, sample sizes and representativeness, the strengths and weakness of the designs, as well as results of data analysis of both quantitive and qualitative research designs. Overview of Quantitive Design Using the Research Study “A Bundle Strategy Including Patient Hand Hygiene to Decrease Clostridium difficile Infections.” Research Question The basis of a research question is to pose an interrogatory question that describes the variables and population of the research study (Schmidt & Brown, 2012, p. 72). In the article “A Bundle Strategy Including Patient Hand Hygiene to Decrease Clostridium difficile Infections.”, (Pokrywka et al., 2014), Pokrywka et al. (2014) present the research question; will the...

...Critical Review of “Homelessness and Health in Adolescents” The research article “Homelessness and Health in Adolescents” brings attention to the problem of homeless youth in Canada and attempts to connect the challenges they experience to lessons for health care and governmental policy. Specifically, the authors set out to understand how adolescents experience homelessness and how gender is factor in that experience, homeless adolescent’s perceptions of health and healthcare accessibility, and how Canadian policy influences these perceptions and experiences. Although the purpose of the research is concisely described within the “Purpose of Study and Research Question” section of the article, I found it difficult to grasp the particular subject they were leading up to in the previous sections. When discussing “Background and Significance”, the authors touch the surface on a number of points regarding gender, homelessness, and healthcare, but they fail to describe any in depth significance why those certain points are important, or how they are related to this research study. I also found it peculiar that the authors cited only one source in this section on a point that is described as being “well documented”, such as the problem of homeless adolescents having a variety of health care concerns. The literature review of this article is well organized into subcategories and the majority of it is written in language that can be easily understood by non-academics. The overall...

...Details: Conduct a literature search to locate research articles focused on a practice problem of interest. This literature search should include both quantitative and qualitative peer research articles to support your practice problem or issue of interest in 350-750 words. Identify six peer research articles which will be utilized through the next 5 weeks as reference sources. Create a reference list in which the six articles are listed. Beneath each reference include the article's abstract. The completed assignment should have a title page and a reference list with abstracts. Suggestions for locating qualitative and quantitative research articles from credible sources: 1. Use a library database such as CINAHL Complete for your search. 2. Using the advanced search page check the box beside "Research Article" in the "Limit Your Results" section. 3. When setting up the search you can type your topic in the top box, then add quantitative or qualitative as a search term in one of the lower boxes. Research articles often are described as qualitative or quantitative. To narrow/broaden your search, remove the words qualitative and quantitative and include words that narrow or broaden your main topic. For example: Diabetes and pediatric and dialysis. To determine what research design was used, review the abstract and the methods section of the article. The author will provide a description of data collection using qualitative or quantitative methods. Prepare this assignment according...

Volume 14, Number 13, June 2009 ISSN 1531-7714 A Guide to Writing the Dissertation Literature Review Justus J. Randolph Walden University Writing a faulty literature review is one of many ways to derail a dissertation. This article summarizes some pivotal information on how to write a high-quality dissertation literature review. It begins with a discussion of the purposes of a review, presents taxonomy of literature reviews, and then discusses the steps in conducting a quantitative or qualitative literature review. The article concludes with a discussion of common mistakes and a framework for the self-evaluation of a literature review. Writing a faulty literature review is one of many ways to derail a dissertation. If the literature review is flawed, the remainder of the dissertation may also be viewed as flawed, because “a researcher cannot perform significant research without first understanding the literature in the field” (Boote & Beile, 2005, p. 3). Experienced thesis examiners know this. In a study of the practices of Australian dissertation examiners, Mullins and Kiley (2002) found that, Examiners typically started reviewing a dissertation with the expectation that it would pass; but a poorly conceptualized or written literature review often indicated for them that the rest of the dissertation might...

...Literature Review – Survey Sampling Matthew King Liberty University BUSI 600-B13 LUO Dr. Shawna Wentlandt September 27, 2014 Abstract Conducting a survey is an incredibly fruitful method in gathering informational data related to a particular field or idea. When conducting that survey, one of the first questions to answer is who will partake in the survey. The methodology employed to determine how many, and the parameters of who will be surveyed is known as sampling. This literature review will summarize and synthesize many articles on the topic of sampling. Introduction Literature Review Purpose This literature review will summarize and synthesize over twenty-four articles related to the science and art of survey sampling. Sampling for a survey is paramount to the research as it ensures accuracy of polling a population. An understanding of sampling will not be necessary to the comprehension of this review. It serves to introduce the reader to survey sampling in general, while acting as a quick handbook to sampling. Those with a beginning interest should be able to use this review as a first step into sampling science. Each section should provide a further understanding of sampling from the various articles reviewed. Literature Review Outline The literature review will begin with an introduction section to survey sampling. The history of survey sampling will be shown by the articles reviewed. Following an introduction to sampling, methodologies used in sampling...

...BREAST FEEDING COUNSELING Research Critique, Part1 Article Used: LaanteraS, Polkki T, Pietila A-M. International Journal of Nursing Practice 2011; 17: 72-84, “A descriptive qualitative review of the barriers relating to breast-feeding counseling” Problem Statement: Breast-feeding is not only an intimate and bonding experience for many new mothers, but important and very healthy for newborns. Breast-feeding provides newborns with antibodies, and protects them from many health problems along with fighting diseases (WomensHealth.gov). However to know this important information, breast-feeding counseling is a great aid in helping new parents learn all about its benefits. While breast-feeding counseling is beneficial, many parents and mothers do not know about it and many barriers exist. In an article by Laantera et al, called “A descriptive qualitative review of the barriers relating to breast-feeding counseling”, these barriers are identified and can be helpful in developing future measurements to assess barriers for breast-feeding counseling. Little research has been conducted previously on barriers to breast-feeding counseling, which makes this an important topic and problem to address. This topic is also important to discuss because despite breast-feeding benefits, only 35% of infants worldwide are exclusively breast-fed for 6 months (WHO, 2009). Purpose and Research Question: The main purpose of this study was to describe barriers in breast-feeding counseling...

Thesis: The present paper provides the analysis of the systematic review “A systematic review of nurses’ inter-shift handoff reports in acute care hospitals” by Poletick & Holly (2010). The influence of this review on clinical practice is discussed. The article “A systematic review of nurses’ inter-shift handoff reports in acute care hospitals” by Poletick & Holly (2010) provides the systematic review of the handoff reports between and among the nurses which ensure the quality exchange of information for the improved health care service. The continuity of care is the major concern for nurses, and the procedure of patient care transfer should take that into account. The objective of the review was stated clearly and mentioned the appraisal and synthesis of the qualitative evidence related to the nursing handoff report. Moreover, the authors aimed at recommending the improvements which would facilitate and enhance the information transfer. by reviewing the qualitative studies which dealt with the real experience of nurses with their inter-shift handoff reports. As the authors admit, this is likely to contribute to the improvement of the patient care. The conclusion on the potential...

Choi ∗ , Mei Li Department of Supply Chain Management, W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ 85287-4706, United States a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t Our study examines the state of qualitative case studies in operations management. Five main operations management journals are included for their impact on the field. They are in alphabetical order: Decision Sciences, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Journal of Operations Management, Management Science, and Production and Operations Management. The qualitative case studies chosen were published between 1992 and 2007. With an increasing trend toward using more qualitative case studies, there have been meaningful and significant contributions to the field of operations management, especially in the area of theory building. However, in many of the qualitative case studies we reviewed, sufficient details in research design, data collection, and data analysis were missing. For instance, there are studies that do not offer sampling logic or a description of the analysis through which research outcomes are drawn. Further, research protocols for doing...
