... Read the stimulus first, then question stem and then the answer choices. Why? Sometimes reading a question stem first undermines a student’s ability to fully comprehend the stimulus especially on tougher questions. It often leads to time waste because students read the stem first then the stimulus and then back to the stem. Leads to confusions or distractions because sometimes the question stem refers to information in the stimulus which may throw you off. Stimuli with two questions will once again lead to time waste because you are not re-reading one question but two questions this time! Reading the stimulus sometimes enable readers to predict the question stem. For example, “Resolve the Paradox” type of CR questions usually contain an obvious paradox or discrepancy. However, when you read the question stem first, you are not gaining or saving time in anyway. Premises give the reasons why a conclusion should be accepted. Always ask yourself “What info is the author using to convince me? Why should I believe this argument or what is the evidence behind this conclusion?” Premise Indicators: because, since, for, for example, for the reason that, in that, given that, as indicated by, due to, owing to, this can be seen from, we know this by. Conclusion Indicators: thus, therefore, hence, consequently, as a result, so, accordingly, clearly, must be that, shows that, conclude that, follows that, for this reason. ...Mason University Intro Health/ Medical Practice Mgt., HAP 410 Due Sept.8 , 2015 Leadership Part 1 Based on what we have discussed in this class. 1. Define at least five qualities of what you feel makes an exceptional leader. • Time management is a key to be an exceptional leader. Being on time to work and/or getting tasks done at a certain date is critical. • Feedback is really important as well. Letting co-workers know how they are executing the task is important because she/he will know how their performance is being executed. • Also, the phrase “draw a line as a boss” is critical as well. There is a line between you as a boss and other professionals. There can’t be friendship between both parties because later in career there will be consequences about who’s the favorite one is or who is not. • Perhaps the most important key in being a great manager is being trusted and respected by each professionals you’ll be working with. They will not execute any task or duties if you are not respected or trusted. • I believe motivation is a key in how the performance will be executed. I also believe all people are different and you will need to find a successful way in motivating each one of them. 2. Identify a person/organization (someone you personally know or have worked with) who has proven to be a good leader. What is this person’s role and what has he/she accomplished, and defines why the person is a good leader...

...A little in moderation is the key. However, my cardiologist would say, “If it takes good, spit it out.” Does it appear that the industry’s prospects for growth and attractive profits are good? Even though all other categories of bakery products recently saw a decline, I believe SCDB and the cupcake industry will succeed in a niche market or we probably wouldn’t be studying them. 2. How strong are the competitive forces confronting Sift and other specialty bakers? Very. Grocery and big box along with in store bakeries, other high end bakeries, high unemployment and a mending sputtering economy are all contributing factors. Which one of the five competitive forces is the strongest? The threat of new entry is high. New competitors can come into the industry easily, reducing profits. I think the biggest obstacle was their business plan. A five-force analysis to support the answer: 1. The parties involved are consumers, competitors and the business itself. Rivalry, cheaper products, and market saturation are all factors that bring about competitive pressures. The market saturation in the cupcake business isn’t tremendous. It does however have social circumstances that could become an issue. 2. I believe the pressure stemming from five forces is moderate at the SCBD. Again, I think the biggest obstacle was their own, or lack thereof, business plan. It is a narrow market with many different appealing attributes. 3. The strength of the five forces is conducive to earning...

...1. The Enron debacle created what one public official reported was a “crisis of confidence” on the part of the public in the accounting profession. List the parties who you believe were most responsible for that crisis. Briefly justify each of your choices. In our opinion, we believe that Enron’s top executives- Kenneth Lay, Jeffrey Skilling, Andrew Fastow, and the Andersen auditing firm are mainly responsible for the “crisis of confidence.” As the top executives of the Enron Corporation, Lay, Skilling, and Fastow had obligations to their board of directors and shareholders. These three men managed to find accounting loopholes with the use of special purpose entities (SPEs) to move around assets and profits to mislead their Financial statements. Not only did these men commit illegal and unethical acts, but they also used their positions in the company to convince Enron’s shareholders, board of directors, and their independent audit firm, Andersen, that Enron was functioning excellently. Enron’s first two quarterly financial reports showed great growth, causing the public to be optimistic and trusting of the company’s future. In late 2001, when the actual truth came to light, the public’s confidence in Enron and the accounting profession was broken. Enron’s independent auditing firm, Andersen, should also be held responsible for the Enron scandal. During an SEC investigation of Enron’s financial affairs, Andersen’s Houston office was found guilty of destroying documents...

... Inc. If you are an outdoorsman, then I don’t have to tell more about Patagonia. Yes, they are a successful brand name in worldwide markets. It was founded by a rock climber named Yvon Chouinard. His love of nature and his dissatisfaction over some rock climbing equipment, lead the way for his innovative creativity. He created or let’s say modified the existing rock climbing equipment in terms of nature friendliness, efficient and reliability, thus founding Chouinard Equipment, Ltd. It had an estimated 80% of the U.S. markets during the 1960’s. Besides this, he also started focusing on the clothing line of quality outdoor clothes and named it Patagonia, Inc. All the Patagonia products were ensured of high quality, durability and reliability. By the 1980, their sales were increasing rapidly, also thanks to the breakthroughs in new fabrics. Moreover, they also started the mail order business, the forefather of online sales and it brought in more profits to the company. However, fast they were growing or more profitable they were becoming, Patagonia had a humble beginning with yet humble mission statement: “Make the best quality product and cause no necessary harm.” It simply relates to a caring idea of the founder Yvon Chouinard, who loved nature. He also focused on quality as a priority for his company’s mission as a whole. He once stated, “It’s linked, quality product, quality customer service, quality workplace, quality of life for your employees, even quality of life for...

...UNIT 2 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PHIL201-Introduction to Philosophy by Kendra M Hutchins AIU Online 11-18-2012 Abstract Everyday a new invention is made. A new cure for a disease is discovered. This is based off of evidence and knowledge. But who is to say what reality is and what is not? To what boundary are we willing to go to find out how true our existence is? Beliefs and religion is based off of knowledge of certain doctrines. But evidence is needed to support whatever your beliefs are. The human race tends to have a variety of beliefs throughout both concrete and abstract areas of knowledge, in this essay I will explore to what degree beliefs need evidence. Using examples, I will focus on the following knowledge issues; does our perception of evidence justify our beliefs? And are we able to have beliefs without evidence? Noticeably, all areas of knowledge are benefited by support from evidence. It is a question of how much evidence is needed for sufficient support. Title holds many concepts that can be explored in different ways. ‘Beliefs’ can be described as spontaneous occurrences of vivid ideas in the mind’ (Pojman). More abstract areas of knowledge such as art can adopt this meaning as they require less ‘evidence’ ;being subjective means that it does not necessarily require physical proof. ‘Beliefs can also be caused by experiencing things in constant conjunction to each other’ (Pojman). This depicts the fact that belief is more of a ‘reasoned process.’ More...
