How to Wirte a Research Paper

...How to Write a Research Proposal. Most students and beginning researchers do not fully understand what a research proposal means, nor do they understand its importance. To put it bluntly, one’s research is only as a good as one’s proposal. An ill-conceived proposal dooms the project even if it somehow gets through the Thesis Supervisory Committee. A high quality proposal, on the other hand, not only promises success for the project, but also impresses your Thesis Committee about your potential as a researcher. A research proposal is intended to convince others that you have a worthwhile research project and that you have the competence and the work-plan to complete it. Generally, a research proposal should contain all the key elements involved in the research process and include sufficient information for the readers to evaluate the proposed study. Regardless of your research area and the methodology you choose, all research proposals must address the following questions: What you plan to accomplish, why you want to do it and how you are going to do it. The proposal should have sufficient information to convince your readers that you have an important research idea, that you have a good grasp of the relevant literature and the major issues, and that your methodology is sound. The quality of your research proposal depends not only on the quality of your proposed project, but also on the quality of your proposal writing. A good research...

Blue Mountain Resort Analysis

...Write Up. Case 1: Blue Mountain Resorts. The Service Quality Journey. Dave Sinclair, vice-president of human resources at Blue Mountain Resort (BMR), was considering his options concerning the company's service quality program. He gathered together a team of 25 BMR managers to identify opportunities to improve service quality. They had provided Dave with a number of specific proposals he wanted to evaluate and decide on a course of action. From all, Dave identified three proposals that required careful consideration: costumer flow, speed of service and information technology (IT). BMR service is delivered in different aspects due to the variety of services that it offers, like winter sport, skiing and snowboarding activities and a variety of services related to these activities, hospitality and food and beverage services, call center, day care and conference facilities. Furthermore, it offers a number of other miscellaneous services to the customers. However, because of the growth and expansion, it began to develop a reputation for long line-ups and poor service. The lacks of service quality started to show up. In other words, guests were not experiencing what they were expecting. Since the employees were not giving a right service quality, it was also affecting their morale and job performance, showing this a lack of two of the service quality dimensions, empathy and responsiveness. After BMR started the service quality journey, the company itself started to change. First...

Disclosure of the Engagement Partner in the Audit Report an International Perspective on the Pcaob Proposal

...of the Engagement Partner in the Audit Report An International Perspective on the PCAOB Proposal By Jason Bergner and Ling Lin n December 4, 2013, the PCAOB conducted an open meeting to reconsider its proposal to require the disclosure of the engagement partner (and certain other participants) in the audit report, as part of its efforts to improve transparency. The PCAOB is carefully considering the likely costs and benefits of this requirement before making a final decision (http://pcaobus.org/News/Speech/Pages/120 42013_Harris_Transparency.aspx). The authors present arguments for and against requiring audit partner disclosure and summarize the current practice and empirical findings in foreign jurisdictions, such as the EU and China. While the debate for the past five years has been an argument about the possible costs and benefits of a signature or disclosure requirement, the authors believe that the movement of the international community toward adopting common standards may eventually warrant a similar U.S. approach. O Debating the Issue The signature/disclosure requirement has been an issue for almost a decade, first appearing on the PCAOB’s agenda in 2005 (Tammy Whitehouse, “Divided PCAOB Presses for Names in Audit Report,” December 4, 2013, Compliance Week, http://www.complianceweek.com/dividedpcaob-presses-for-names-in-audit-report/article/323604/). The current proposal to disclose of the engagement partner in the audit report stemmed, at least in part, from...

Reflection Paper

...Rakesh Desai CEMBA 5711 Negotiations Reflection Paper # 1 10/5/2012 For the Supplier negotiation, I was in the role of the Supplier. My main objective was to negotiate a new contract with ATI (a regular customer) to supply the batteries for their new line of implantable auditory devices. There were 8 issues that were needed to be negotiated. My BATNA was 6000 points because I knew that I can get an agreement with Medtronic and get 6000 points. My priorities from higher to low were Contract Term, Lot Size, Price, Development Fee, Electronic Integration, Inventory, Quality and Volume Flexibility. My underlying interest or reason for contract as my first priority was because my whole negotiation plan was centered on negotiating long term contract term. Furthermore, I was concerned about having a short term contract because my buyer was concern with quality, and I knew that I might have to give into quality. The final agreement included a contract term of two years, lot size of 2000 parts, 3 weeks of inventory, 25% on volume flexibility and price of $335/part. Towards the end of the negotiation I was still concerned about the quality because I went below my reservation price, but since I was able to get long term contract with larger lot size and my asking price, that made this agreement very attractive. In this respect, although I did not achieve my target points of 17000, the agreement was worth 15600 points. This was well above RP of 6000. Although the...

Quality Metal Service Center Case

...Quality Metal Service Center Group 2 Araojo, Oscar Jan Asis, Alvin Magboo, Mike Raniel Manzano, Krystele Ann Peralta, Diana Marie Rodriguez, Jerelleen EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Quality Metal Service Center has shown its resilience in the industry through its century old existence banking on industry knowledge and high quality products. The company is doing well and would like to maximize its potentials by looking into its control system. Analysis has shown that potentially profitable projects may not be pushed through due to some inefficiencies in their performance evaluation and incentives system. The company is currently using ROA as the sole criterion of evaluation. However, ROA will be lower on companies with newer assets that those with older ones. This will lead managers to reject proposals of new projects with large capital outlay. The Economic Value Added is a more appropriate measure in this situation. In light of the application of the EVA, the issue with the Columbus District manager will be resolved, and the proposed project should be accepted. INDUSTRY ANALYSIS The Metal Distribution Industry is highly competitive and fragmented industry which composed of fewer companies because of the high costs of establishing and maintaining this kind of business. It is on its mature stage that improved efficiency on production is the priority in order to beat the competitors in the industry. End users still have different needs which are unmet by the market players...
